Description:
A song written by Rebsie and William; Rebsie, vocals, Celtic harp, advice; William software, PETI accordion/harmonium, violin, vocals...

Picture: Carlingford Lough

Lyrics:
All the women you ever loved
Are gathering by your side
And each one glances at the others
From the corners of their eyes

In the Chelsea and Westminster
You lie on the bed
And all the words we never spoke
Will never now be said

Simplicity &mdash 09/08/05 - 11:24:10 AM
Simplicity suits you both, lets the beautiful melody and
heart-breaking lyrics really shine. Rebsie's voice has never
sounded lovelier. That last high, too-ra-lay are three of
the prettiest notes I've ever heard sung. Truly.

The spareness of the song really suits the concept of "all
the words we never spoke, will never now be said." You
brilliantly leave it all unsaid, still, but express it with the
music. Just wonderful, both of you. THANK YOU!

Lisa... thanks so much for leaping in so generously. It's a bit of a different
tack, so I'm so glad you like this one as it's a pretty close to my heart.

chilling as usual &mdash 09/08/05 - 11:27:01 AM
nice, appropriately unusual melody/harmony, gentle
Rebsie singing, great instrumental playing Mando! I like
the ambiguous poetic lyrics.

Eeee that's right depressing that is... &mdash 09/08/05 - 06:02:31 PM
...and just how I like it! I've played it many times over now

Actually it's got something Gothick about it. I like the way
the ambience changes between verse and chorus.
Fantastic vocals Rebs (like a slightly cockney choir boy!)
and the harp and mock accordian thingy playing are
wonderful - hadn't previously picked up that you play the
harp Rebsie (thinks: hmmm might want to use that...)
This is brilliantly put together - excellent work from the
pair o' you.

That mournful chorus will be stalking my twilight
moments.

Oh, alright, I'll just have another listen before I go to
bed...

Thanks KK! I'm chuffed that you mentioned my harp playing. I left the harp to
gather dust for several years and it's only because of Mando's encouragement
that I've recently started playing it again.

Unnervingly beautiful &mdash 09/08/05 - 07:46:05 PM
I don't know what else to say except this gave me chills when
I first listened to it. Stirring and mournful, and all those other
adjectives which escape me right at the moment. I just keeps
getting better and better when you two team up. Thanks for
this.

For some reason this reminds me of jonx. I guess it is the
poetic, brief nature of the lyrics.

Beautifully sung, and the wonderful PETI accordian/
harmonium gives this the feel of a dirge, which, in fact, it
is.

Lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely.

Sounds brilliant even on my crappy laptop speakers - will have a good listen on 'phones and vote later. Great to see a new upload from you both - have been waiting for a while now it seems.

Now that's better! Every bit as good as I expected. Understated
instrumentation, beautiful clear, sweet vocals and harmonies and fantastic
production. This is probably my favourite song of yours so far, and it's an
original (wish I had the copyright on "tooralay toorala"!).
Big big scores and downloaded.
Thanks,
Neil

Mando, It's not about who wins, as long as its a great game (which it certainly
appears to be!!). I carry dual UK and Oz passports, so I win either way!

Nice, love the picture as well.

Love how you have a firm hold on the irish folk sound and

Stripped Bare &mdash 09/08/05 - 11:09:07 PM
Yes, that's right. Rebsie and mando stripped bare for all
the world to hear! Rebsie's naked voice barely clothed in
mando's harmonium. A lovely, delightful trip to the land
of the ancient, quiet voice of the soul. Where mist is
enough to clothe the sound that echoes from the very
birth of creation!

desperately sad song...
Haunting backing music, Mando!
Rebsie, your voice soars above the music.
Beautiful singing. The two of you are making some
wonderful tracks together.

Wonderful song beautifully sung! &mdash 09/09/05 - 05:36:40 AM
Wonderful song beautifully sung!

And a lyrical picture that interested and fired my
imagination! What is really happening here? Something of
profound importance anyway. A situation in life when you
clearly feel how earthly matters are linked to matters of
eternal importance. An exchange place between destiny and
choice.

Pitchy &mdash 09/09/05 - 07:36:32 AM
The pitch problems in the female vocal line are just too much
to overcome. Very nice feel otherwise, nearly capturing the
feeling of ancient folk that Rebsie has achieved elsewhere.

Pitchy? &mdash 09/09/05 - 08:24:26 AM
I am deeply grateful for anyone leaving a comment, of course, so thanks. But
I love the vocal; and I hate the word "pitchy" equally so. Besides, it's
not "pitchy"; it's just not larded with vibrato.

[ Reply to This ]
Pitchy &mdash 09/09/05 - 09:23:59 AM
Oh for goodness sake, not again Mulletsrock!
you really have a thing about pitch dont you.
what would be more polite and sensible is to actually WRITE your
explanation as to where you think there is a pitch problem, instead of making
your legendary non enthusiastic posts about the girls voices on here.
give it a rest mate, this is a lovely track and Rebsies voice sounds wonderful.

organic &mdash 09/09/05 - 08:19:59 AM
Mando and Rebsie making music together again, hooray!

This is a lovely little tune -- the accordion and harp
provide an "organic" atmosphere (I mean this word to
mean "integrated" as well as an organ-like sound!) and
your voice sounds wonderful on this recording, Rebsie.

The quality of this recording is excellent; very rich, full
and clear.

The two of you continue to create a very powerful energy
with the music that you create together. May your
association live long and prosper!

The tone takes me to Chelsea.
The singing voice invites me to Westminster.
It revives quietly from the lake side.

this is painfully beautiful...wondrfully played sung and

SOUND...a recognizable single voice, and distinctly yours.
That is the single hardest thing to do in the musical world,
and you are acheiving it! CONGRATULATIONS!

You guys just keep putting them out! This, as ever, is
really lovely...Rebsie just keeps upping the stakes with
poignant vocals. I really like the harmonium playing on
this as well. A very classy modern folk number.
You must have enough great tracks now for a significant
album?

Very well done. Excellent singing. I like the lyrics very much.
Have you been satisfied with the PETI software instruments?
They sound pretty good from what I hear in this song.

Thanks Mungo. Much appreciated. I'm not very fussy about my instruments,
probably should be more so, but I think PETI are pretty good value. The
presets on the PETI accordion/harmonium are excellent...

Medieval magic &mdash 09/11/05 - 05:37:40 PM
Beautiful singing, Rebsie. And exquisite playing,
mandolinquent. Medieval and Renaissance flavoring in
this. You make it sound like a centuries old song that has
been pulled from the dusty archives of the Hill Monastic
Manuscript Library.

Could be a bit faster, no? If not faster, perhaps more
arpeggio to pull the tether.

Perhaps the Rebs-mando duo is the most instantly
recognisable sound on MacJams.

This is just plain beautiful. Played through my ok-ish hi-fi
it sounded like a live gig. Crystal-clear production.

Startlingly original stuff.

how more im listening to it so more im falling for the song!
at first i found the melody and style of verses completaly
different than chorus. like two different songs, but than i
listened to it a couple of times and have to say it really
sounds fantastic together! and tom is right, it is a dirge, a
beautiful one, and the sound of accordeon gives you such a
shivering... uff! almost scary :) i love it
