Lyrics
My Bucket's Got A Hole In It

Traditional New Orleans street blues tune. arr: snowdragon

Chorus:
My bucket's got a hole in it,
Yeah, my bucket's got a hole in it
My bucket's got a hole in it,
And it just won't hold no beer.

Well I'm standin' on a corner — with a bucket in my hand
I'm waitin' for a woman — that ain't got no man.

Well, I went up the mountain — looked down in the sea
Seen the crabs and the fishes — doin' the be-bop- bee.

Well, there ain't no use — me workin' so hard
Cuz I got a woman — in the boss man's yard.

One of my favorite songs
I'm most familiar with Hank Williams' version, though there's a Sun Records tribute called "Good Rockin' Tonight" that came out a couple years ago that has a rockabilly version by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page that's pretty great. I quoted this song in background vocals of my my song posted here on MacJams called "Bucket"
I liked the double time bit at the end. Liked the way the drums picked it up, and made it into a fun sort of jam...great slide playing!

One of my favorite songs
I'm so glad you commented Jim. I saw Plant and Page on a PBS show a while
back talking about this song and it reminded me of the Hank version (and
Ricky Nelson's) which led to me taking a crack at it. I didn't catch the name of
the album they did it on and the kids at the local HMV were completely
baffled when I tried to explain to them what I was looking for. Now that I've
got an album name, chances are much better they'll be able to order it for
me.

Thanks for that and the kind words. (Gotta go check out your tune now.)

Nice leads
Excellent swinging blues, dragon. I especially like that guitar playing--the tone is cool and the leads are tasty. The rhythm changes at the end are sweet.

Need a new bucket?
Craig: You are really striking that axe good and wailing
the blues with passion here."My bucket's got a hole in it,
and it just won't bale no water." Folks will be adding that
line to the song in years to come. Terrible tragedy. Our
prayers are for all the displaced residents of a legendary
American city.

Need a new bucket?
Thanks RS. I'd been messing about with this tune for quite awhile but after
all those images and stories from Katrina's aftermath, well, you get the idea.
Maybe it's a function of age but these things seem to get to me more now.
Guess I should go make another donation to the Salvation Army.

Thanks T. But I'll let you in on a little secret. One of the best things about
GarageBand is that you get lots of "do-overs."
