Keywords:
Genesis (6)Moog (8)solo (72)progressive (125)Gorglepoof (2)Tempo changes (4)
Description:
In the recent weeks I've been listening to a whole lot of Genesis (Peter Gabriel's Genesis, I might add) and shortly thereafter I got this uncrontollable urge to make a long, cool Genesis-like song with a bunch of keyboards and Moog solos.
I managed to nail the fact that it has keyboard and moog solos.
The title itself is complete rubbish - just the first thing that came into my head when I was about to name this thing. But considering the fact that this is the first song where I've just taken some solos and recorded them, I thought it was appropriate to have a spontanious song title as well.
Hope you enjoy this.
Oh, btw - there'll be some distortion; I didn't manage to remove all of it. Not today, anyway...

Roger Dean imagery &mdash 09/09/05 - 05:39:09 PM
I'm really digging the keyboards in this; very lively and/or mysterious. The dynamics, complexity and intensity of the song all follow very effective arcs. I love the solos, especially the epic section at the end. Really cool!

Rich and enjoyable &mdash 09/09/05 - 05:53:11 PM
piece of music. Reminds me of some of Mark
Knopfler's stuff. I can listen to this over and over
again. You are very talented E!

I'm taking the energy train to downtown Snapsville. This is
righteous stuff. Nice progressions and
transmogrifications. Your change-ups are especially
grabbling.

Grabblesnap crackle pop... &mdash 09/09/05 - 06:14:20 PM
Noticed the noise about halfway through... too bad.

Fun and interesting tune. Lots of software instruments going
on here. My comment for this will be the same as for Tobin's
Revolution's Son... It needs guitar.

There was a passage in the middle that was like the synth
version of Tool's "Sober"... which was kinda cool!

Great tune... kept my ears interested for the duration. I
would love to hear it further refined!

It may be the cold weather in Iceland or maybe not... I must be the talent you have that brings this great music to macjams.

Wonderful collection of synths, and I think it definately
has a spy movie soundtrack quality in the first half or so.
Love the bass. Will download once I get to the right
computer ~

I'm not the hugest prog synth fan... &mdash 09/09/05 - 08:13:47 PM
...but I like this a lot.

It's complicated, it has a suite-like quality to its
movement, it's rhythmic and it's melodic...

The drumming is awesome. How you got Bill Bruford to
answer your calls...

I love the textures you're getting on the synthesizers, too,
and the blend between the various instruments...

Well done.

Not to mention the solos! Very Genesis. Or maybe even more
like Marillion! Like this a lot.

Cool track...I like the way it builds, great production! I
think that this would be great with some rock guitar
added...get Ziti on the phone?
Really inventive melodies and soundscapes.

Cool Synths &mdash 09/10/05 - 04:51:45 AM
Excellent drums. I'm not much of a prog fan (it pretty much
begins and ends with KC for me) but I enjoyed this. I'd
actually would prefer to hear some electric violin over this
(what's Eddie Jobson doing nowadays?) rather than a guitar.

This is a great piece of music, interesting variety in each
section, imaginative rhythms and progressions... brings me
back to the moooogy days, ahhh. It just sings... very nice.
Faved, DL'ed, played to my kids "Now THIS is music!" :-)
And the classic "fade just as the really cool solo starts,

imaginative &mdash 09/10/05 - 08:34:20 AM
You have a very natural musical sensibility, putting
interesting sounds, chords and beats together in a very
pleasing, imaginative way.

These good ideas flow from one to the next very
smoothly, yet with a jolt of interest with each new section.
I would say, though, that this piece could be tightened up
with a few less ideas, especially towards the end. Each
idea in itself is great, but there were a lot of them in one
piece.

HOWEVER! You somehow manage to pull it all together in
a pleasing way, which says a great deal about your
musicality and your talent.

I agree with dchapman that this will be much better after
you remove the noise.

Nice Work &mdash 09/10/05 - 10:53:53 AM
Nice piece Einarus, the dymanic is great. Starts off nice
and easy and builds to some real power and then a tempo
change just to carry you off someplace else. Love the
decending scales at the end, I always like playing guitar to
those scales. Nice keyboard work. Enjoyed it.-JAC

fun &mdash 09/10/05 - 10:56:18 AM
Like the creativity, like the synth especially as it get 1/3 of
the way through.
Nice buildup.

Very nice drums where it gets suspenseful.

Again lots of nice creativity for sure.

noticed that it wasn't what you intended.

An excellent track.

very nice! you've captured the essence of "prog" w/ this
one-especially nice mid-section: i can almost hear P.G.
singing a refrain from "watcher of the skies" within-you've
spent too much time on this-you should rest! prog on,

This isn't my genre, but I really am enjoying listening to
this composition! You have such a talent for 'putting it all
together" in a song, Einarus!
I can 'hear' guitar added to this, too.
I thought the distortion was a little distracting, but the
track's so good that it makes it a minor nit.

Outstanding!

Special treat &mdash 09/13/05 - 10:29:09 PM
As much as I dislike Peter Gabriel, I like this tune. Why is
that? Honestly, I have no answer for that
query...answering it would create a negative matter field
that would destroy the fabric of time itself.
Duuuude....the keyboard is so killer and in my head.
Mixes well with the voices that were already there.
Apparently my inner thoughts dig Prog.

The only thing I like more than the song is the title.
Tomorrow in my group session I'm just going to yell
"GRABBLESNAPS" at the top of my lungs. They'll probably
put me in solitary again for a bit, but it'll be worth it.

Special treat &mdash 09/14/05 - 02:48:06 PM
>As much as I dislike Peter Gabriel, I like this tune. Why is
>that?

Perhaps because it sounds nothing like Peter Gabriel? Gabriel didn't write
that much of Genesis' music, he was mainly responsible for the lyrics.
Plus there's obviously no Gabriel style vocals on here. If anything this
sounds more like the work of Tony Banks, which is perhaps not
surprising given that he was the band's keyboard player and probably
the most important contributor in terms of the band's musical style. This
track has a very strong keyboard presence but no vocals or lyrics,
therefore it sounds very little like Gabriel. It does sound very like
Gabriel-era Genesis but that's largely down to the Mellotron effect that
was very prominent on those Gabriel-era albums. To be honest, some of
the non-Gabriel era Genesis albums ('A Trick of the Tail' and 'Wind &
Wuthering') sound very like Gabriel-era Genesis even though he's not
actually on them. I could expand on that but I suspect no-one's
interested, least of all Einarus and it's his flippin' song!

This is kind of like, "if Genesis had written Bohemian
Rhapsody, or maybe cowritten it with Procol Harum". Very
enjoyable.

I don't think it needs guitars. But, I do think it needs vocals.
Yeah, some stream of consiousness Peter Gabriel stuff would
go well with it.

Dang if this isn't the spitting image of Camel. I know you are too young
to be familiar with this band. Dig up a copy of Mirage or Moonmadness.
You'll love it.

The rhythmic change at 3:25 is a kick in the pants.

I even love the slightly muffed lead notes. Gives it a sense of spontenaity.
