Description:
A "planned" improvisation on some material I thought of in this last week-end. Home alone with a flu...
Somehow a Satie (specially a Rose-Croix mystic Satie) atmosphere has appeared as a result of the material and other misterious factors... Then I spotted this citation:
"When you pray, rather let your heart be without
words, than your words be without heart."
John Bunyan
...deciding the title once and for all...
I don't know if it's good, but I think it could work well with some recited text.

I love the way this starts off so delicate and subtle and
slowly builds up. Very very beautiful. [ Reply to This ]

That was beautiful. While it never settles on a particular
melodic theme it does feel connected and with an
unhindered heart that carries me all the way through with
grace. Such delicate playing, such enveloping chords. I
think the title you chose suits it very well. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks a lot &mdash 09/12/05 - 04:05:46 PM
Well exactly what I had in mind as what had to give unity was the group of three
chords starting the piece and the final chords of D+ alterned with the F note in
the bass, afterwards revealing as part of Bb+. Those chords appear like starting
and ending a sort of choral...but intermediate development brings far (well
maybe not much) from the choral form. Well...that's what happened, I think...
I thank you for stopping by and make me reflect :) [ Reply to This ]
Beautifully played... &mdash 09/12/05 - 06:19:47 AM
...very natural piano sound... Woody and reverberant...
A lovely sense of timing, phrasing, "breathing" in this piece...
Moving, evocative, complete as it is and unto itself...
Really something.

I love my clavinova &mdash 09/12/05 - 04:15:11 PM
...and I've tried to reverberate it a little more than what I did in my first post: I
love reverberating halls when I have to play quiet music.
Maybe the fact that three days before this piece I played the Pachelbel canon
with a flute and a violin in an ancient chapel in Assisi was not uninfluent...
Thank you so much anyhow, Ejh. [ Reply to This ]
applauds &mdash 09/12/05 - 07:51:19 AM
The play doesn't by the word.
The play is not possible to talk by the word.
The play is praised in the word.
The play is praised in applause.
I applauds a good play. [ Reply to This ]

I, too, applaud this good play &mdash 09/12/05 - 03:02:19 PM
Sometimes I hear a piece and say to myself, "I wish I had done that." Such is the case with Tobin Mueller's "Just Above the Ground," and Jim Bouchard's "daft git-folk," and with your "Prayer without Words." However, your technique is far beyond me. Such a calm, gentle touch. This reminds me of Philip Aaberg, especially in terms of pace and touch. And yes, some Satie, too. I believe this improvisation could be developed just slightly more, so that it is no longer an improv, but a full-fledged, classical piece, all grown up. Beautiful work, Rik.

Well, I looked at your last piece and suggested you think about
planning or thinking ahead in your music a little more... then I look at
this piece and see that you already are. Theres a definate shape and a
definate ending, which is a great improvement on the last piece. Not
much I can say except to try experimenting with some faster textures
and/or different chords so you can contrast with these last two pieces.
Great work, keep it up. [ Reply to This ]
