Description:
Remember her?

Lyrics:
In eight years of marriage
the Yates had five children
four boys and one little girl.

Times were hard
nothing easy down
in seminole florida

In 97' they left the travel trailer
and went back to Texas
lived in a renovated bus

No one can tell you
how four walls can close in
for years they lived
light and followed God.

But when I was just seventeen
a valedictorian
captain of the swim team
Dont ' forget
I was a member
of the National Honor Society.

June '99
after the fourth child
she started seeing things
hearing things, listening
to a preacher his words
salvation surely bring.

Michael Woronecki
a traveling minister
preached a sermon
about women made
Andrea see the role
of wife and mother
is derived from
the original sin of eve

I was a good girl
I studied nursing
graduated from UT
An RN at the cancer center
When I met Rusty
when we married I was twenty-three.

One day with a sharp knife
at her throat pointed
she threatened suicide
she cried and she pleaded
with rusty to let that day
be their last goodbye.

Catatonic for ten days
Docs said no more babies
haldol they gave her
soon she was feeling well

Rusty would move
them into a real home
November 2000
brought a baby girl.

I prayed and I prayed
I read the bible
sometimes frantically
a better wife?
a better mother?
Lord, can you make out of me?

Desperate days
homeschooling the children
after her dad died
she went spiraling

One by one
took them to the water
held them under
until they stayed

Andrea Yates sits in
harris county prison

Michael still preaching
under east texas pines.

I saw Rusty on Larry King
the other day
If you ask me
he looked just fine.

When I was just seventeen
a valedictorian
Don't you forget
I was a member
of the National Honor Society.

I welcome a true guitarist's talent...
In this version I took off all the vocal effects and changed some lyrics...

I remember this really great song! &mdash 09/14/05 - 10:17:44 AM
Your voice is really nice, and the song is really powerful. Reminds me of Michelle Shocked or Mary Gauthier. The loops sort of hold this back, of course.

I know!! The loops suck!? I can't figure it out on my guitar. Uggh. I'm so
lame!!! I can only hope someone more talented will take pity!!! hint-hint!

love this sort of thing &mdash 09/14/05 - 01:18:42 PM
Anyone keeping the topical folk alive is instantly cool in
my book.

You have a lovely voice too.

Nice &mdash 09/15/05 - 02:25:46 AM
I likes this! Nice to see some lyrics posted (though way too
lazy to type my own!) and love the use of the word
'valedictorian' -well done. your voice is nice and sincere
though I would suggest just adding a little reverb (not too
much) as it seems a little flat. Loops kinda suck after a bit
though they are fine at the beginning. Maybe introduce
some strings midway to hide/life the loops tracks a bit!
Oh- and get that guitar out!!!!

Gutsy &mdash 04/01/06 - 11:08:01 PM
To take on an ode to a baby killer is a gutsy move and you did a good
job. The part where she drowns the kids could have provided an
opportunity for a reference to baptism, born again or new life. In fact
that could be the essence of a more defined chorus. It still is very
effective and dramatic the way you wrote it.
