Description:
This song came about from a forum discussion on MacJams called "Instrumental Songs". The lyrics for the song were taken right out of the forum! and that is thanks to CJorgensen who unwittingly started the whole thing, and then drakonis, who then arranged the words into loose song form. And then you know me, I stared at those words for a few minutes, and... bingo. I further massaged the lyrics and added some of my own, and then I contacted drakonis to ask if he wanted to put in his two cents. i.e. It has been fun!!! That being said, to understand this in context, you should read the first page of that forum thread, then come back and have a listen... the song will make a lot more sense (or not.)
To go to the forum, click" target="_blank">http//www.macj/... here!

The picture is to show that contrary to public opinion, I can also levitate.

Lyrics:
Too many - hope you don't mind drakonis. It will just make people listen closer is all : )

As all of your music, it get throughly entertained!
Love those harmonies and how they fit in such a fun way.
Wow, love that two-way talking, it fits in a very nice
theatrical way. Your such a precious talent here at MJ
Daphna! Like the subjects you sing about especially this
one! As I've said before in other posts, you have a very
nice happy sound in your songs. In other words, you
would be good doing a depressing song because there
would be a feeling of hope even in a darkest-of-despair
song :) At least that is what I get from my ears anyway.

Good going!

The best part of this is reading the forum as you listen. It
reminds me of the time I first "got" the Weird Al song, "Bob,"
and realized the whole song was made up of palindromes.
Very creative! wtg!

Can you write a patter song now, ala Gilbert & Sullivan?

Wow, now that's an interesting thought. Ahem. (straightens his pinafore...)
"And... I straightened up that thread so carefully, that now I am the sysop of the
whole Mj!" Nah, I don't think it would work... nobody would get it. :-)

Forum Theme Song &mdash 09/15/05 - 07:39:23 AM
I should have followed instructions and looked at the forum
first. As an exercise in shaping another's thoughts into lyrics
it's brilliant. I was feeling it was coming off a little extra
acidic at first, but after hearing the full song and looking at
the forum, I get it now. Fun stuff.

Forum Theme Song &mdash 09/17/05 - 05:18:10 AM
hehehe, I was sort of worried about how the song would stand on its own,
without context... and made sure the link to the forum post was in the
description. I was also trying to sound somewhat pompous when performing
my lines, well, OK, that was easy for me to do :-) But that worried me too... I've
not really acted, only read books to my wife/kids, so performing like this was
new to me and as Daphne remarked to me via e-mail "possibly pushed me a
little out of my comfort zone" :-) I am happy to hear that it wasn't too off-
putting by itself, and that you enjoyed it in context. Thank you for taking the
time to get the full effect!

very clever! &mdash 09/15/05 - 09:08:38 AM
You developed a great idea into a very clever song!

I love the fact that you lifted phrases directly from that
forum and put them into a song, because one can actually
"hear" the person saying them. This adds a wonderful
sense of familiarity and identification, not usually present
in lyrics.

Especially entertaining are the overlaid vocals, with two
different trains of thought going on simultaneously -- just
like two opinionated people who refuse to listen to each
other.

The true strength of this song lies in the vocals; you have
done a masterful job of combining them in various ways. I
particularly like the ones in the falsetto register, very
catchy and amusing!

Your voice is so well-suited to this expressive kind of
narrative; it rises and falls with the words, giving them
life, and your diction is impeccable so that everything is
well-understood (which is essential when you have a lot of
words flashing past quickly!)

All of your submissions with vocals have this story-telling
quality, in fact -- it captivates the ear and engages the
listener.

Can you tell that I thoroughly enjoyed this song?

GREAT JOB, daphna!!

This was so much fun to collaborate with Daphna on, and
I am glad everyone is enjoying the tongue-in-cheek fun
we're poking at all the "serious forum debates." I hadn't
expected anybody (especially the amazingly talented
Daphna) to take my silly lyric wordplay and create a real
song out of it, and such a catchy and bouncy one too! I
am glad to have performed an acerbically-tinged
monologue here, and you should be glad I didn't actually
sing! Beware though, since I'm a Mac programmer, I'm
still thinking about writing that iSing auto-lyrics generator

Songs are where you find them &mdash 09/16/05 - 12:22:54 PM
This song comes at you from many different directions, making for a wonderful listening experience. It's humorous, up front, as parody; yet it underscores the serious discussion of songs with lyrics: without words (here), where would be the comedy? The dialog duet is delightful - I keep trying to hear both arguments at once which, of course, is pretty much impossible to do. It's particularly clever the way the song itself intrudes on the speakers to cut them off, with the ranters complaining about it. Not only is this funny, but it nicely reflects the reality of the macjams site itself, where the music and the forum compete for one's attention.

Songs are where you find them. Writing about the macjams experience - or in this case, yanking something out of the experience to make a song about songs - has validity for me. Richard Schletty did something similar here (though not the same) by turning the words of a chat room exchange into a song. This song also promotes one of the special features of the macjams community: the collaboration (of which CJorgensen became an unintended co-conspirator). Kudos to both of you for putting this together, and especially for Daphna for recognizing its creative potential and coming up with another delightfully "sappy" tune (Drakonis' words - not mine!).

Thank you Warren for stopping by and commenting on so many great points.
I'm personally very happy you enjoyed the song in its intended upbeat
manner, and saw the levels we were trying to achieve.

As far as Daphna's "sappy" music, in truth I happen to love it, and it was
actually hard for me to record myself saying that! I have several of her tunes
stuck in my head now (this is one now)... I have no idea how she keeps them
all straight in hers!

Sorry, but I'll have to take the dissenting side. I think it's
wasted energy to be writing about this kind of theme.
Song about voting in Macjams? Ridiculous. Your creative
energies could have been used to something more worth
listening to. Good voice and nice little production, but no
hallelujahs from me. I've heard it done at Sesame Street.
Just to be fair, i won't vote. I'm looking forward to your
