Description:
First up, many thanks to Nobunaga for the advice (please check out Nobunaga's works on MJ)
This really isn't dub in the strictest sense, just a kinda tribute to the On-u Sound team during the last decade &-a-half.
All created in GB, no external/samples/loops/effects etc.
Everything has been entered note by note, (hence taking so long to submit..)
It's in 7/8.
97 BPM, (although I am considering 100 BPM might be more appropriate...)
Best,
AA

nice dub like &mdash 09/15/05 - 05:39:43 PM
great work with the note-by-note stuff, horns come
smoothly on the dubeat and bass line is cool, 'd be nice
with some dubby voices & xtra fx too but nyaseven is a
great piece of its own, well done! [ Reply to This ]
nice dub like &mdash 09/16/05 - 01:56:31 AM
Many thanks,
Note by note can be somewhat mind numbing, especially when you're
working in 7/8 with a 4/4 feel. It's a pity that GB doesn't have multiple track
view in notation edit...nevermind, perhaps they'll address this issue in the
next version of GB.
I think my next submission will be totally loops, no notation....we'll see... [ Reply to This ]
No Loops! &mdash 09/16/05 - 11:43:16 PM
This was beautiful! Going to all loops from this would be
like switching from china to plastic. Excellent track!
Cheers! [ Reply to This ]

Mhz,
Kind words,
Unfortunately, all my good china is in storage...
I guess one has to resort to tupperware every now & then...
...it keeps food fresh, albeit for a while...
best,

Always a fan of the un-ordinary &mdash 09/19/05 - 09:58:32 AM
I've always been a fan of meters in anything but 4/4, so
being in 7/8 was a great start for me.... but... overlaying
the 4/4 congo rhythm? Awesome. I love that stuff and I
can tell that there was quite a lot of thought put into the
notes. Its just a shame that I don't think much of
Garagebands horns section. If there was a little bit more
of that soft piano, maybe a gentle jazz improvisation or
something, this would be an awesome and chilled piece of
music. Of course, even without that, its still pretty neat.
Keep going with the odd meters! [ Reply to This ]
Always a fan of the un-ordinary &mdash 09/19/05 - 06:36:27 PM
Cheers,
The original idea was to create the impression that the piece is in 4/4, which is subsequently 'shattered' once the kit kicks in...I guess this would probably be more evident/effective if the conga & percussion tracks were lengthened.
Overall the structure needs to be refined.
Given that this was my first MacJams submission (aside from an open collaberation with ElfDaughter), I wanted to get to know GB as well as I could, hence limiting myself to only GB software instruments, so, unfortunately, the saxes where 'out of the box' so to speak.
I may come back & extend the piece in the future. Thanks for the words!

Nice work &mdash 09/29/05 - 08:17:41 PM
I actually think the horns sound good for GB. I loved the flow of this
one. [ Reply to This ]

bob,
I actually think the horns aren't too bad for a free software package....
thanks for feedback...

a nice song to groove to.
Like the bass underneath and the saxaphone in there. [ Reply to This ]

I just love &mdash 10/18/05 - 05:51:58 PM
unusual time signiatures! Nice going.
It can be quite the chore working with them, though - which makes it all
the more rewarding.

I had to come check out your stuff. I decided to start with the first
thing you posted. This is really, really ambitious -- but the results
are super cool. I am not familiar with the genre (or anything else
you mentioned, really) but I like odd meters a lot. This has a nice groove
to it, and I like your choice of instruments. This is the sort of thing I
could listen to repeatedly and not get bored. [ Reply to This ]
tension, almost &mdash 11/02/05 - 05:51:31 PM
Nice! Rich textures, clean... Lots of tension, almost reluctance... I would love to hear you build on this, as it ends rather abruptly. [ Reply to This ]
That's alot of pencilling &mdash 11/02/05 - 06:55:41 PM
but well worth the effort. When your mouse hand recovers you should
consider expanding it. :)

Under jungle! &mdash 12/28/06 - 05:00:01 AM
This is a nice plethora of simplistic organized groove. Anything that makes me wanna move is pure genious. I will give you the salute. [ Reply to This ]
YES!!! &mdash 01/18/07 - 04:09:17 PM
This is so good! You had me at 7/8. Beautiful sounds, the hand percussion sounds so warm and alive. Somebody ought to record your horn sections live. Are you familiar with Mulatu Astatke? Definitely faved it. [ Reply to This ]
heh... &mdash 01/18/07 - 05:25:01 PM
..again, thanks for your kind words...
this was a real bugger of a piece for me, as i was learning GB, without the help of a USB keyboard!
Mind you, I became quite adept at pencilling after this exercise! ;)
