Let Loose Blues

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Have you ever felt how after a day of disciplined playing, you just feel like an exploding urge to let loose to play someting wild or unpredictable.

This one was recorded after a day when first me and friend Jocke had rehearsed and worked with arrangements for a couple of his songs, then, at night, he in turn had helped me to record a couple of my tunes on his equipment. After last take I felt this exploding urge ... and just before he had time to stop the recording after the last take I told him ... Just let it roll ... and so this jam stared with less than 2 second thought, which I am personally happy for, because I have no other recording done with so minimal preparation. I mean, when recording I usually have some idea of what to do. This one was not even thought of two seconds before it started. So it is truely spontaneous.

You can hear at the end of the jam, how harmony and balance kind of turns back. After completions of the take the guitar can get back into the case for a well-deserved rest. And sleep can come easy (for me).

Impromptu Blues
Just incredible strumming and picking. Your love for playing comes through on this tune. Such a free and easy style.

Using a western theme, it's like you took the saddle off your horse and let it run free after a hard day's work. Great stuff.

Just what I love to hear...
First, the tone you are capturing here is just what I love in
acoustic guitar recording... every aspect of it...

The improv is really nice... sounds like just what it is...
letting loose after disciplined and controlled recording
and playing...

It's got heart, it's got drive, it's got intensity...

Straight to the Cori playlist, which groweth longer and
longer...

Ed

Can't wait to hear the rest of the session!

Thanks a lot Ed!

Well I am afraid that most of the rest of the session was just stuff that has to be
considered covers, which cant be published here...

I was caught in interest when I heard that driving beginning
Then when you went into a more classic folk fingerpicking
feel I realized would you meant. I know exactly what you
mean about just wanting to let lose to brake the tension on
something that is tedious.

That is a very good concept and one that is good for
exploring into an original piece like you have done.
Interesting stuff in there!

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Tieler!

It is interesting to see that there are others who recognize this letting-loose-
feeling ... I have been wondering about that ... maybe most musicians do ... ?

Soul Improvisation...
so wonderfully expreesed on that acoustic guitar
of yours. And I do meand "soul." You come
through in this song. I especially love it when
the song slows down and becomes more
introspective, quiet, and delicate.
Beautiful playing.

Following your heart, into your fingers, onto your
guitar... Cori, you are making "living" music here.
You could go on and on, and I could listen and
listen.....

maybe at that garden party in the wee hours of the
morning as the crowd begins to thin out.

Cherish It
A great lesson for everyone to just push record and let it all
out. Great snippets of parts that could be brought to fuller
realization. This song is also nice as a whole because of the
rawness and unpreparedness of it all. Spontaneity at its best
and luckily captured for the remainder of time to enjoy and
cherish.

wonderful journey
I can definitely hear the pent-up energy that you had at
the beginning of this improvisation; you really needed to
express yourself in this way!

By the end of this piece, it had calmed down and you
effectively released it.

The beginning section had a lot of vitality, with fast notes
and interesting percussive effects. There were some
magical moments when you made your guitar sound like a
full symphony orchestra, with a wide variety of sounds. I
am amazed at what you coax out of the instrument!

The following quieter, slower section was a nice way to
unwind after the first section; it was a good transition.

Thanks for posting this very pleasant musical journey.

In our midst
I'm trying to think if there is another guitarist - anywhere - I would rather listen to? Leo Kottke? Wm Ackerman? Maybe Martin Simpson? But I'm not sure. I believe a truly great guitarist is in our midst, here on this website. Such a fine recording, purely capturing a lovely moment.

In our midst
To me, Curry sounds a lot like Bruce Cockburn, especially some of Cockburn's earlier instrumental stuff, especially when he plays in drop-D like this. One thing's for certain, he certainly is special!

kickin'!
Very full of energy and inertia. Love the flamenco-like
hits while strumming, and the rich chords and rolls...
(non-guitarist descriptions, sorry!) Delicate breath-
catching break in the middle, nice rich overall sound of
the guitar. Brilliant sunshine near the end. Beautiful, as
always!

Late again!
Hi Curry,
Please pardon my tardiness!
Not bad (typical Australian understaement) for a
spontaneous piece! This reminds me of jamming when I
was younger ("reminds" being the operative, we were
never this good!). I think this sums up what being a
player is all about - being able to jsut do it when you feel
like it. You have the added advantage of being able to do
it very well. Is this one on Milinda?
Very nice piece my friend.

Beautiful Playing
I like the energy here - and the slow section in the middle
through the end is absolutely beautiful. I think some
wonderful unexpected things can happen when you are
playing music and not really thinking about what you are
doing. And it's much safer than not thinking about what you
are doing while driving a car! :)

Let Your Fingers Do the Walking
I know exactly what you mean about letting loose. My
most enjoyable moments with the guitar have been when
either flatpicking or fingerpicking, I just take off with no
idea where I am going and let my brain make split second
decisions. Sometimes it comes out great and sometimes
not so but this one certainly fits the gret category. That
first part was sweet and reminded me more of the Stax/
Volt type of rough southern soul music than the country
blues you usually work off of. The transition to the quieter
more melodic stuff was very surprising and interesting.
Overall as good an improv as I have heard!

spontaneous wonders
There are only a few times in my life where I played something spontaneous and when I was done stood in awe thinking "where did that come from" I was impressed as hell when I heard your track but spontaneous kicks it up another notch. Very nicely done I hope to be able to make my acoustic sing like that someday.

Taking the D-18 on a fine walkabout.

As the painter said when asked "How long did it take you?"

You were certainly ready when the two seconds were up.

This is FAT!!!
Dig you checking the other side of the fence out. You do
well at the blues. Some what quit Fat at the start. Then to
mellow out nicely...You must have dropped your E to a D.
I know you slowed down at the end to cool her down but
you may want to put an ice pack on that neck.

Diggin' into the strings!
I love the sound of your guitar and your playing. I can
really hear you diggin' in the strings. I really like how you
change and mellow it up towards the middle, then turn it
back up at the end. Great stuff!

Very Impressive
Your mastery of acoustic guitar fingerpicking, strumming et al, over many genres is amazing. I started off playing electric guitar over thirty years ago and have only gotten into acoustic in the last fifteen years or so. I know how many hours you have to put in to achieve this level of playing. I here no finger squeaks or muffed notes like I ddo in my own playing. This is very good stuff.
