Description:
Ed Known as Ejh asked me to do a renditon of his terrific tune: "Song Of This World". But I really didn't duplicate the tune, I kind of went off on my own little tangent. But I really was influenced by his folk masterpiece. I sent this tune to him to get his ok. He emailed back and liked it. So I really don't want to do injustice to his truly one of my all time favorite tunes here at MJ. So I gave it another name with reference to his "Song Of This World"!

I can invision a women or a girl frolicking in a meadow, almost in a ballerina-like fashion. Happily looking about at the beatiful flowers after a long anticipated warm day in complete freedom of a very joyful dance!

Hardware:
2 mics/ no mixer!! With those bad preamps.
Used a USB 122 interface with phantom power for the condenser mics.
Betsy - my new Santa Cruz acoustical guitar.

Software:
GB2

I love this! &mdash 09/17/05 - 01:53:05 PM
You've taken it to your own place, that's for sure! It sort of
"echoes" or has resonances of "Song Of This World", but
it's become its own thing entirely... It's like classical
variations on a theme..

"Variations on a theme from Hannifin". Heck, sounds
almost dignified...

Great playing to my ears, great tone and
recording...Another one with sparkly highs and yet
richness in the low mids... I love the guitar sound you
get..

It really does sound like a dance to me...stately and
spritely both, somehow...

And since it's not me, I CAN VOTE ON IT!

Anytime you like one of my melodies, Bill, just feel free...

Thanks so much Ed for letting me in on this. Again I really adore your
origianal tune. With a tune like the one you composed I couldn't help but feel
music of joy.

Thanks Ed!

Just wonderfully lovely! Period!

So much love in this music! So heartfelt! And an edifying
composition! Fresh and interesting and at the same time old
like some medieval tune.

And congratulations to Betsy! To you both! Such a beautiful
sound from her in your hands. Seems like she inspires you!
You are apparently going to become just great a couple! Cant
be much better that this (?)

She gets a bit jealous of the slide guitar next to her but I havn't really picked it
up much since I picked Betsy at the Marin County Ca. Guitar Show!

Though it was hard to hear her cause she had to compete with the tough guys
(Rockers testing the greatest and latest electrics. The salesman who actually
worked at Santa Cruz Guitars as a builder said that Betsy was his favorite. I
tested many guitars at the show she, seemed to really stand out.

Thanks so much Cori for stopping bye!

Do you have any picture of her ... or are there any on the net. I made a search
and found that there are lots of different Santa Cruz acoustical guitars...

No fair, you are good at this... &mdash 09/17/05 - 04:31:56 PM
A pure musician, you stand alone exposing your soul with
only your guitar as a veil...

Love and tenderness are two words that come to mind and
even the word, pretty, is a word that hangs about as I
listen. A word I rarely use, but in fact, this is a very pretty
tune and you can't help but to feel good while listening.

This is another exceptional and beautiful piece, of which it
does not suprise me, that Ed would be of dominant
infuence.

Very well done TT!

Thanks for such a nice post, Ed's "Song Of This World" really did inspire me. I
really think John Denver would love that tune Ed. I just had to give that folk gem
some praise!

Absolutely beautiful!!! &mdash 09/17/05 - 04:54:09 PM
If you could put a sound to the joy of being alive, this
would be it. It just sounds so warm and alive - an
invitation to joy.

Betsy does wonders in your hands.

Thanks notso

I have to be careful with Betsy, I have a couple of desks on each side of where I
practice and she can get bruised. So to keep her happy I try not to make sudden
jolts. But I took a bunch of furniture and objects out of my studio so the sound
is better I think. I am amazed at how taking stuff out of a room can enchance
the recording. But I reallyy believe it is true on how important acoustics of a
room are.

Totally enchanting. This kind of playing is beyond my comprehension, but a total joy to listen to. It's hard for me to hear Song of This World in there, but what a great song to use as a starting point. The result is amazing!

Ya, that is one big reason I gave it another lead name as compared to "Song of
This World" but I know that I couldn't of recorded it with out the wonderful
influences of that tune!

Hmm, this sounds like The song of this world, but it also sounds like a classical piece by Edward Grieg!!! very beatufiul, it is something i can listen to even when i am drunk and it is 0400 in the morning!!

I didn't envision a girl in a meadow. &mdash 09/17/05 - 07:55:54 PM
It was more like a master guitarist in a venerated concert
hall giving a virtuoso performance to a mezmerized
audience.

I think this is the first time I've actually preferred a strictly
instrumental version of a song to the one with words.
That's not only an acknowledgement of the performance
but also a testament to the power Ed's song.

Loved that little double roll-down at the end of the verses.

Air On a 6-String &mdash 09/17/05 - 08:11:23 PM
Just a refreshing, airy blend of the lightest elements of
classical, folk and... yes, as Cori Ander's ears heard ---
medieval --- compositions within this joyous extrapolation
of Ed's original work.

A wonderful tangent you went off on, Bill... with marvelous
results. Like air on a 6-string.

I should be more mindfull of worlds like medieval, the music sometimes just
comes out with out intentionally going after the medieveal sound. Maybe
ignorance is bliss.

Thanks

This is some of your best work, Bill. Wonderful guitar
playing -- lyrical, fleet, warm and expressive. And the
recording quality is excellent.

The musical material is top-notch, too. I'm glad that Ejh's
piece inspired you to create this.

Your performance on this is a very personal one. The
windows of musical communication are wide-open, and
the notes speak words. Your joy of playing shines through
very strongly on this piece.

Hats off to you and to Betsy!

Great Guitar playing and GB recording &mdash 09/24/05 - 08:58:13 AM
Thanks

I use a MXL 2001 Marshall Condenser mic on a boom pole. Which is good for
going towards the hole and the 12th fret:
http://www.mxlmics.com/condenser_mic/mxl2001/mxl2001.htm

Then a a sure KSM 109, (much more slender) on a regualr mic stand aiming
down towards between the bridge and the sound hole. I will experiement with
other mic situations but so far that has being about it:
http://www.shure.com/microphones/models/ksm109.asp

But I think the best thing I did was clear out my room so the sound doesn't
get obstructed on TV sets, furniture, I have a tile floor :) which helps alot as
well. But getting rid of many of my objects in the room I record helps alot but
I still like the recording in my tiled bathroom. I just bought a blue tooth
keyboard for just that purpose and a flat screen 17 inch Samsung monitor for
going into the bathroom and recording there. That monitor is sure better
then the old CTR monitor monsters. Trying to move those things would be
like trying to dance with a full grown gorilla :)
Thanks for the post
