Description:
This is an update/remix of Over and Done. I've traded out the single drum loop for a set of DoD loops that fit the song a bit more directly. I've also extensively worked on the mix to get rid of an overall overcompressed sound I felt it had.
== Original Description ==
Some thoughts about the "Patriot" Act and what it means in relation to the "War on Terror". Sampled speech is from arguments in the Supreme Court over the Jose Padilla case. Many thanks to Alimar, Penguinsocks, Tktran, Gudkarma, Vanish and the rest of the jammers that have been on the iChat chatroom (macjams) lately for feedback and putting up w/ revs in progress.They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security Ben Franklin

Hmm. OK, thanks for taking the time to comment, I was going for that sort of
jangly (fairly) clean somewhat loose rhythm guitar sound in particular on this
one - I don't feel like it's more "sloppy" than I intended anyway. If you have more
specific comments let me know.

Love the message, couldn't agree more.
Overall this has a nice smooth sound. It's got a "relaxed" feel
to it. I like the dropped in sound clips. It works really well.
This really reminds me of a band from the late 80s/early 90s
called The Dangtrippers. They put out one album, but it was
awesome. (In fact, they were from Iowa as well.)

came out quite nicely.....the jangly guitar worked fine....it fits
the rhythm nicely......lead was right on....true no nonsense
rock sound....alway enjoy a good political commentary with
solid music for propulsion.....the best kind of

I really like the simple solo and guitar work... words cut right

Haven't heard the first version in a while, but this one is cool. I agree with your message, and like it whenever someone can call attention to these important issues with a catchy tune. Let's hope real liberty comes back in fashion if the pendulum ever swings back. There's a lot of effective sound bites in here. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks PV. I think (hope) the pendulum may be just about as far out as it can
get - but I've been wrong about that before. I think maybe Katrina (more to the
point the aftermath) and the languishing occupation in Iraq, coupled with those
sharp pains in the pocketbook at every gas stop may be starting to take their
toll. We'll see in '06. Let's hope they don't pull out something else shiny to make
everyone forget.

I like the melody, and like the sentiment in the lyrics.
Singing sounded a little rough, but in some ways suited the
song that way.

I really like the looseness in this, especially the drumming,
which sounds very live - DoD must be a good little thing
to have. Liked the Beatlesque/Move/Small Faces chorus.
The world certainly seems to be heading somewhere
unpleasant - writing songs about it is something we can
do to maybe make a difference. I liked this song!

Thanks Neil - I enjoyed "Danger Signs" quite a bit as well, anyway, even if it
doesn't make a dent, at least it makes me feel better to get it out. It feels like a
fairly healthy way to get the frustrations out. Hope the "free world" can get it
together before we can't be called that any more.

Nice little number. I agree with you on this so called Patriot Act. They
talk democracy and then do everything to take away freedoms and
privacy. Nice touch at the end. From the production side, I would
work the EQ a bit, on my system everything sounds a little muted so I
