weird but true... &mdash 09/21/05 - 08:08:46 PM
thanks for the notice!
yes, this song could alternately be titled 'weird but true;
i can't help but come off weird and quirky, it's built in.

if it's gonna be that kind of party, i'm gonna stick my dick in the mashed potatoes!

off yet right on &mdash 09/21/05 - 08:18:27 PM
sparse- yes. my usual technique is to add and subtract and add and add
and add and edit. here, i've tried to only add little bits at a time. starting
from that line that goes kind of like 'do....wooo....doo....doowoo' i was
very particular.
thank you for the notice cj.

thank you for the notice, hacked.
i'm glad you notice the beat- the idea with it in particular was to add
something that was autopilot, but would play off other elements of the
track in unexpected ways. i don't feel that i really accomplished me goal,
there, but I'm glad you liked it!!!

It took a while for the groove to sink in, but once it did I was totally hooked. Nice weird melodies on top.

hey p.
glad this worked in to your soul. thank you for giving it the chance to
grow- as something that's a little different for me, it's encouraging to
know that there are those out there that are willing to give this piece a
chance. did that groove happen to sink in because of how it played off
other aspects of the song as it played through, perchance?

I think maybe I know what you mean; the strange melodies you lay on top
of the groove definitely help it sink in, adding to the appeal of the groove for
sure. In that respect, perhaps it's similar to my Sea Spider, which has an
unusual pulse which becomes more and more meaningful or important as
different layers are added to it. Dude don't take it out on the innocent
mashed potatoes!!!

memories of a train trip &mdash 09/21/05 - 09:47:22 PM
I really like this Andrew. For me, it brings back memories of a train trip between Munich and Berlin in 94 - mid winter, passing through villages in the part of Germany which used to be the east. There's a lot to be said for simplicity in music, and the simpler the music, the harder it often is to make well. I loved the constant beat and the lead synth sound - great job!

gawsh
the emotions you invoke with your setting really add to my own
understanding of this piece. I wanted a ballad- i wanted cool and
introspective, emotive yet detached. i must have gotten close if i
conjured up such an image in your head!
also- thank you for the listen, and i'm so pleased that you liked this
piece.

Inexplicable &mdash 09/21/05 - 10:54:30 PM
....I think I'm stuck on that Disneyland ride (long gone,
now) called "Adventure Thru Inner Space."
Am I shrinking....?
Yep...I'm a snowflake!

I enjoyed this little adventure, epecially the sparse but
effective 'twittering impulses.' Very nice :)

title &mdash 09/22/05 - 08:42:51 AM
I was hooked immediately by the tone of the piece,
specifically the synths. I also enjoyed its minimal quality. I
can see this song working both as it is in its minimal setting
and as a foundation to another work that is more layered.

If synths could sing &mdash 09/22/05 - 06:24:52 PM
they'd be singing a song like this. I like the back and forth
between the alto synth and the soprano synth... and then
when they sing in unison -- bliss. I suppose I could describe
this better onomatopoetically, but I'll save the singing for
your syths. Weird and unique. I wonder what it would sound
like with some very faint ambient city noise in the
background... Cool stuff. Out of the box -- props. :)

i really couldn't be more pleased to see that you've zoomed in on the main thrust of my work here on mj- i want to make synths sing. i think, as a medium, they are so much more pliable and have such great potential for expression. also- i like the connotation of the synthetic.
they are my chosen instrument, as some people decide to learn to play the violin.
so very glad that you like this piece- one thing that i hadn't really considered was adding atmosphere from existing sources- 'real life' to my pieces for subtle effect; interesting idea! i think you've planted a seed that will bear fruit in the future.....
kisses, missus

It's great to see you are finally getting your due! I mean, more comments on your tunes... more high votes. The quality has been there for a long time, in my opinion...
those Eccentrik melodies can't go unnoticed for long! This tune finds you branching off a little more, which is cool as well... slower, sparser, longer... of course, I'm lovin' it.

oi! stun!
thanx for your longtime support and interest
and it is nice to post something that gets a lot of commentary- it's great
to see my intent in a track through other response.
due what? what did i due? did you due that?!
after i polish up every track, i always stop and think to myself 'where the
hell do i go next?' and after a week or two (sometimes 3) a direction
surfaces out of myriad doodles. i was very happy to tap into a slower,
more expressive vein this time.
again, thanx for always bein' there man!!

u 2 r gunna make me blush.
and i thought i was 'cult'

as for those restrained subtlties- they've been pecking the way out of
the shell for quite sometime. it's great not to have them go
unappreciated after an emotional swell builds up to toss them into the
world in proper setting.
along with capt. nutz, your work has influenced, challenged, and
encouraged me along the way. i also thank you for the longtime support
and interest.

and patience?
well i guess you can't really hear me tapping my foot
drumming my fingers
clicking my teeth
playing percussion with a spoon on my beer
harrassing the old lady next to me
generally causin' a scene......
.....good things come to those that wait
and wait
and wait
and wait
and wait
:)
thanks
