Description:
It's been a bad week at the Collective and we've missed our productivity targets so I thought I'd post this number from the people's archive. It's another of my compositions performed by Las Bragas (see Le Troisième Demi) the only difference is that it's got a hot guitar solo from Eddie and me singing too!
Lyrics:
Why why must it be
We are marching into history?
It doesn't make any sense to me
Weren't we all invited to the party?
Why why must it be?
Why why must it be
Life is cheap but I want to be free?
It doesn't make any sense to me
Weren't we all invited to the party?
Why why must it be?
Why why must it be
I love her but she don't love me?
It doesn't make any sense to me
Weren't we all invited to the party?
Why why must it be?
Why why must it be
Spiderman won't rescue me?
It doesn't make any sense to me
Weren't we all invited to the party?
Why why must it be?

What an unusual mix! Reggae meets Riyadh? This is deliciously original
sounding (at least to me.) Great bass & drums & guitar, wonderful violin,
and nice voice too! Silly lyrics, but hey, after Daphna's & my song here,
everyone knows how I feel about lyrics :-) Clear recording & mixing,
sounds great!

The lyrics are kind of silly but kind of serious too - believe it or not I had as a
starting point The Fall and how we were supposed to be created equally (well
according to your constitution but not Calvin)!
Thanks for your comments tho' always appreciated - glad you noticed the
Riyadh bit the original intention was for this to have an Arab style groove but it
became more Jamaican as time went on! [ Reply to This ]

Nice slow groove. Everything fits together so nicely. Nice mix. I also
enjoy the vocals and their treatment. Parts of the vocals remind me of
The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Nice electric solo towards the end. Unique. [ Reply to This ]

Never heard of the Squirrel Nut Zippers (thought you might be joking until I
looked them up!) but thanks for your comments: 'unique' is about the best
comment I can imagine! [ Reply to This ]

I'm not a fan of reggae in general, but this I like; taking a reggae vibe and improving it with that great violin, interesting singing and cool guitar solo. Very nice. [ Reply to This ]

Glad we managed to snuck a reggae vibe into a place where you'd like it!! [ Reply to This ]

Like that electric violin sound and the rest of what goes with it.
Fun!
Lots of nice sounds on that violin. A welcome sound for MJ!
Singing sounds good as well. [ Reply to This ]

Wow, fantastic &mdash 09/25/05 - 03:09:45 AM
Brilliant combination, the laid-back bass-line with the mournful fiddle
... it's unusual but it works a treat. And the guitar, when it comes in,
creates a different effect again but one which blends in really well with
the rest of the song. I love the fiddle solo. Great to hear you singing
too! The overall effect is a song laden with sadness and frustration but
kind of cool and uplifting too.
These Las Bragas tracks are always a delight to listen to. You have
some seriously good quality stuff here. [ Reply to This ]

You're right of course - joy and pain, bittersweet, it's the Klezmer thing. [ Reply to This ]

I love the tone you get out of that electric fiddle... The vocals are
excellent too. Cries out to be played live... Special AKA meet 3
