Description:
Originally an idea from around '88. Was going to use it in a musical I was co-writing (that never got finished), and the midi parts oare from that work. Drums are DoD. The guitar is all new, drenched in AU Matrix Reverb. The solo stuff is all one through take, I know there's a couple klinkers in there, but I tried to recover gracefully, and I liked the rest of the take enough to just go with it and call it done. I like to rationalize it as part of the "journey". YMMV.

N/A (Instrumental)

Hardware:
Dual 2.3 Ghz G5.
Fender Telecaster
Homemade bass

Nice mood &mdash 09/25/05 - 09:52:08 PM
I dig it...sorta reminds me of something that Metallica or Metal Church
would have done.

Glad to see you around again, I know I've been pretty busy myself, but it's
nice to run into some of the "old guard" around here once in a while.

Nice relaxed groove &mdash 09/25/05 - 10:10:05 PM
...with just a bit of a kick in the steady percussion.
Very nice! This is different from what I've heard from you. Though not a
genre I feel qualified to really comment on, I know what I like--and I liked
this! :)

Thanks for posting it!

dream within a dream &mdash 09/26/05 - 10:20:00 AM
Snaking through a deep chasm, floating on an aerosol-can-powered
jig. Making my way to Root Mountain. A bubbly Fresca in left hand, a
voltmeter in right hand. It doesn't get any better than this, my friend.
Thank you for the journeysong.

Thanks for the images. That was kind of a fun trip in and of itself. Glad you

Heat of the highway &mdash 09/26/05 - 01:26:39 PM
Slowly, the shimmering town rises from the mirage on the horizon, like
an otherworldy spectre, beckoning the spy back home. Just another 10
miles and his horse can recover from last night's midnight trek through
the pass.

I loved this when you first sneaked it to me... so glad you posted it!
The climbing chromatic chords remind me of the Ventures' 007 music,
but it also has a Western Cowboy feel in my twisted brain, thus the
above imagery. You covered your tracks well, sounded great!

Heat of the highway &mdash 09/26/05 - 09:21:53 PM
Fun description drak. I can certainly see the western influence - the musical it
was going to be in was set in the old west if I remember right. I can also see the
ref to the Ventures it does have that intrigue thing going. Sorry I made you wait,
but I really wanted to finish paying attention to Over And Done before moving
on to this one.

Thanks for the trip &mdash 09/26/05 - 03:37:21 PM
Very good playing, and I especailly like the overall mood (winding,
searching, dark) and how you've put the parts together - well-balanced
and seemless.

Thanks Mungo, glad the song works - sounds like it's communicating what I was
going for. Glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback.

SLAPPY! &mdash 09/26/05 - 05:22:20 PM
Groovilistic and nihilating! It reminds me of old Suicidal Tendedncies! One of their moody slow songs! Very cool and trippy slack jaw mcgraw! I'll take a yank on the beard for this one! A job done well! The solo could be polished up dur to a few sour notes looming but overall kool potatoes!

Thanks for the sandwiches. I'll have to check out ST's. I've come to accept and
actually welcome the added tension of the sour notes. Makes it go someplace,
because it has to. Good ear to spot them though.

Way Back &mdash 09/26/05 - 08:28:08 PM
This took me back to Garage Days.
Only you've put a more modern spin on it.
Enjoyed listening to it. Well produced, and the guitars were tight.

Thanks Bill. Lots of folks getting that spy vibe. think it's that twisty convoluted
path, or more likely just the low parts w/ the heavy reverb.

Hey Klick,
this is a wonderful atmosphere you are creating,
loved the mood of the piece and the keeping it
simple attitude. The reverb sounds good in this one,
and the playing is just right.
Cool song, well done.

Cheers

Thanks katchoolik,

Well, I'm getting old and was never fast to begin with, so Steve Vai licks are not
an option with me, so I'm glad you liked it kept simple.

Drifting right on through &mdash 09/27/05 - 11:14:57 AM
the morning and into the day, through the myst and the sun's first ray,
dancing light from the white capped waves, as I and time travel...over the

sustained mood &mdash 09/27/05 - 12:01:07 PM
Whatever klinkers are there, they aren't apparent enough to me to interrupt the sustained moodiness of this evocative piece. It's got a great smooth energy flow to it. My curiosity is piqued, though, as to what kind of musical you were writing that was going to include this piece?

sustained mood &mdash 09/29/05 - 07:27:38 AM
Thanks Warren,
I'm glad you didn't find any of my missteps distracting (and as I distance myself
from the process a bit I'm finding them less so myself). As to what kind of
musical, as I recall it was going to be set in the old west, had something to do
with the whole wagon train thing, but I wasn't writing the "book" so I've grown a
bit fuzzy about these details.

I'd much rather have a klinker &mdash 09/27/05 - 03:54:48 PM
than get spoon-fed spam from a can. The guitar was definitely going on
a journey and it was good to be on it with you.

Nothing better &mdash 09/27/05 - 04:17:17 PM
than moody instrumental music. For some reason this reminds me of the
end of a bittersweet relationship.

The clinkers don't bother me in the least... it's where the song come from
that makes the difference. Nice trippy journey, ka-k.

Thanks AC, I think I can see where you're coming from on the relationship
thing. I mean who says "Passo del Diablo" is a physical place? It could just be
the long dark tea time of the soul. :-)

Interesting &mdash 09/27/05 - 10:19:02 PM
Had a lot of tension to where I found myself being drawn closer to the
monitor and yet there was a sense of remorse. I'm still reverberating.
A little on the departure from most of what you do. will be interesting
to hear what next is coming.

Nice guitar, but... &mdash 09/29/05 - 12:41:03 PM
The drumming seems quite sloppy to me in numerous places. I'm not
sure whether it this is the guitars fighting with the drum for the pulse...
but its ruining a lot of the song for me. If it were a live recording, I
would say that the performers can't hear each other properly. If at
least the bass and drums were tight and together, I would find it much
easier to relax and just take in the guitar.

Nice guitar, but... &mdash 11/04/05 - 04:51:48 PM
Hmm, not getting that at all - the drums are from Drums on Demand and I
think the groove hits the pocket nicely. You may be cluing in on some of the
heavy echo going on in the arpeggiated guitar - I mean, it's not mechanical,
but I don't want it to be.

Cool &mdash 09/29/05 - 12:48:27 PM
Dark but alluring. Very mystic in a way.

Great guitarwork, nice production and an overall cool feel to it.
Good job!

ethereal &mdash 09/29/05 - 04:02:44 PM
sounding jam. I liked it. It made me slow down and really listen,
which, should be easy, but is not always so. As for the occasional flub,
I call them "happy mistakes" they seem to work with the piece.

the guitar work does bring some images of a mountainous place perhaps. nice and relaxing. i can feel this coming from the 80's. not sure of any criticism or advice i can give other then it's pretty well produced. better then anything i've done by far. oh and i was brought to this piece because i saw the road in my fav.s and thought i need to make sure i listen to more of your tracks because i love the road.

a musical journey, one that would be cool to see on stage if the
musical gets finished. if there were any notes on the outside (solo) i'd
say they simply added to the ambience nicely. excellent job on the mix.
theres a faint secondary or answering part, like string line that i could
pick up towards the end, that really added to the tune. liked this
