Description:
too much personal gunk in this to get into, but i had a ton of fun making this one. it's a back to basics song for me, recording much the same as when i did in my youth during the 80s... just me, a guitar, and a 4-track (along with some household instruments).
Lyrics:
A DAY AWAY
Carry the load
Away
Bury the holes
Away
When you call and say you'll be right over
When you get there, she ain't there
Cherish the woe
Away
Lavish your soul
Away
When you call and say you'll be right over
When you get there, she ain't there
When she calls and says she'll be right over
When she gets there, you ain't there
What you need is a day away for freedom
What you really need is a day away
Away
Away
Go far away
And if I leave you here to die,
Well, you'll know that i don't love you anymore.
But should you leave me here to die,
Well, I'll know that you don't love me anymore.

Striking stuff &mdash 09/29/05 - 12:31:28 PM
This is incredible, raw folk music, boris. I love the soaring falsetto
parts, and use of DIY sounds. [ Reply to This ]

Great work &mdash 09/29/05 - 01:18:24 PM
Pretty guitar work. Unique and warm singing, effects don't detract or
muddy them, well mixed. And as usual, great lyrics. Crisp recording.
Simple and cohesive.

I like this a lot.... &mdash 09/29/05 - 04:02:37 PM
Shades of Traffic (Steve Winwood) with your vocals and chord
changes... very intelligently written and again, sung so well. I
wish it went on longer. And a nice instrumental break wouldn't
hurt, but that is just my particular slant and preference.
It is amazing how a stripped down song can deliver so much!

get much better than this. Love the vocal style on this and guitar is
excellent. The change-up (when I leave you here....) took me by surprise-
masterful!
Very cool list of instruments, too! [ Reply to This ]

Where the hell have you been? Rumor has it that you were playing the yak circuit in Tibet. Boris the Sherpa. Hauling cargo up Everest. Hey, anyway it's great to have a new Boris song here! So much great stuff going on in this tune. The guitar: Very very nice guitar song.(Martin D-15, whoa! new?) Sweet playing. I like the simple guitar intro then, very elegant playing. The composition: Three different parts. All contrast and connect so well with the next part. Each with a different Boris vocal. You sing so good!
Lyrics: Man! Relationship with a stark end. Not easy to sing about or live through. I wonder if this is in the first-person. Boris, great that you're back [ Reply to This ]
No bull &mdash 10/02/05 - 10:00:19 AM
lmao! well, i've been quite busy with a project. haven't had spare moments to
Sherp, let alone make music. the Martin D-15 is an old companion, but i hate
to admit that my 30 year old $25 imitation epiphone which is beat to crap
(and who's name is - yup, Boris).
anyhow, thank you for the extensive feedback, my friend, it really means a
lot! and yeah, it's a first-person song. neither good nor bad, just calling it as
it is. i know you know... hehe! thx!! [ Reply to This ]
Excellent &mdash 09/30/05 - 05:33:17 PM
woh - Those vocals were a surprise - especially the high Steve Winwood
ones. I also hear shades of Dear Prudence, not a bad thing. I hear the
Beatles were pretty good. :)
But that vocal work, again - wow. [ Reply to This ]

Were you going to segue into another song at the end? I started humming an old
Aeosmith tune. :)

I hear Traffic &mdash 10/03/05 - 05:24:47 PM
Great tune Boris! Love the vocals - especially where you go up to the
higher register - and the picking. I hear Traffic on this also - waiting
for a Chris Wood flute solo to come in. You'd be very pleased with how
this turned out I would imagine! Welcome back!

You have interesting stuff in there. Like the innovative pickin and the
singin has that new age feel. The high part of the vocal has thrill feeling.
