Description:
This is a fairly raw acoustic ballad..with a bit of electric ambience. I guess I was inspired by listening to some of Johnny Cash's 'American recordings'..

Lyrics:
Your blonde hair flows free
In the Autumn sun
I tried to tell you
You were the one

But you swam to waters
too far from sight
The tide runs high tonight

You have the smile
that everybody knows
The kind of beauty
that seems to glow

But you saw fit to stray
from the light
The tide runs high tonight

Guitar solo bits

I thought I knew your heart
but I was wrong
and now all the lyrics
won't fit the song

But you strayed too far
from the light
The tide runs high tonight

Thanks Alley-oop, I just wrote and recorded this one today and suddenly had
the urge to post. Its a bit rough and ready but sometimes its just good to go
for it! Might add a bit of harmonica at some point. Thanks for listening

thoughts from the bull... &mdash 10/02/05 - 01:55:39 PM
a sweet treat i just happened to stumble upon! had no idea what to
expect, as i clicked in without really looking.

that voice of yours... my word! you're like the folk Barry White, for
crying out loud! fantastic.

my only crit of the song would be that it ended kind of low-key. it just
kind of fell away from me. it could have had another 3 minutes of that
warm, lulling guitarwork and i'd still have probably wanted more.

i fine piece that works awesome as-is, or could even be built into a
much more grand production (i can hear violins, violas, piano, cello,
etc flowing through this one). well done! happy i stumbled today!

thanks Boris..yes I agree the ending is a bit low key, I am thinking of ways to
change/extend it. Thanks for listening

sparse = rich &mdash 10/02/05 - 03:02:27 PM
Very nice, folksy, with a good dose of longing. Great singing voice,
poignant guitar, I like the progressions... reminds me in one spot of The
Stones' "Angie"... sends shivers down my spine. Simple and effective.

Johnny Who? &mdash 10/02/05 - 03:17:21 PM
What, did you run through all three pickups on that Strat?
Jes jokin' around. Nice moody minor ballady tune Steve. Reminded me
of some old Mick Grabham stuff.

Haha...actually I went through all 5 pickup options! The old 'one take solo'
trick
Cheers

So much about this song &mdash 10/03/05 - 12:00:28 AM
to like, Steve.

You just keep creating these wonderful songs, and your voice has gained so much confidence! I really like the guitar in this one--echoing and haunting.

Very, very nice. Fav'd and D/L.

we do admire your guitar playing - it's fab and we are running low now on superlatives for the voice. simply, another fine treat - thank you stevel and - by the way - what time do you get up in the morning?? it's looks hellish early to us!! xxx

Moody Genius &mdash 10/03/05 - 09:26:34 AM
You do have the knack for creating a mood my friend! Your voice and
guitar are in the groove again and seem to flow from that place in the
night that I once wrote about. Only minus is there was more ambient
background noise than I am used to hearing but that can probably be
modified with eq or au.

Thanks Bronco! Yep this recording is a bit rough and ready..there is definitely
some guitar buzz and clunking in a few spots. It's all first take stuff of
course..particularly the solo guitar which could be refined somewhat. I guess
this just had a low fi 'feel' I liked.
Cheers for listening

Great song &mdash 10/03/05 - 12:57:10 PM
Yes, definitely the Johnny Cash influeence coming through. Love
the trademark wandering strat lines.

Great song &mdash 10/03/05 - 01:03:15 PM
Thanks Eltopo...I have just been discovering the later period Cash recordings,
very sparse but truly great performances. They are a bit of an influence on
this track I have to say...I like the idea of doomladen guitar and voice songs
haha! I have had quite enough of bland singer/songwriters like David Gray
and James Blunt :)
OK now I have alienated any potential fans I shall go and have a lie down!

boring farts.

but this is great!

Perfectly put together &mdash 10/03/05 - 05:47:41 PM
Great job Steve. Fantastic vocal on this one - the foghorn sounds like
its been in for a service! I think this is probably your best vocal so far
in fact. Tasteful guitars as usual, and a very nice composition - would
never guess its a onedayer! Perfectly put together.

THIS is a great song! &mdash 10/05/05 - 06:39:20 AM
Your vocal is spot on...

The layers of guitars are nice... once again that hint of Knopfler... but
there's also a trace of some of Springsteen's more raw work, like
'Nebraska'...

I could hear a somewhat raw violin or cello sound in there...the
harmonica idea definitely works...

..."the folk Barry White"... I know what he's talkin' about...

interesting piece, &mdash 10/22/05 - 03:54:13 AM
Not crazy about the nitrous-oxide vocals, but a good song regardless.
Loved the guitar work.

This is as good as or better than &mdash 10/23/05 - 07:39:23 AM
than most of the professional music I listened to in the car while on
vacation. I hear the influence of Cash's low key later recordings (I have
them all - they are fantastic). You couldn't search for a better influence
for what you are doing here.
So, when are you giving up your day job?

I love those Cash records too...they have such a powerful vibe to them and
yet are so simply recorded! And what a voice that man had right up until the
end.
As for the day job we shall see..
Thanks for listening in!
Steve
