Ed’s comments:
I am listening to the final mix as I write this, and marveling… Over headphones, as I am listening now, Curry has crafted a whole landscape of guitars for this song to live in, and I am very satisfied…
The song itself:
I think that for many of us who experience lonely moments, the first impulse is to do “something…anything” to get out of it, be it just lonely, or lonely-plus-angry, or lonely-and-sad, or some other flavor… and to think that, “something must be done!” This song came out of the first time that I saw that it might be wiser to just stop, stop running, let it all just be… One of those life lessons that I have learned and lost and re-learned through the years…
The production:
The vocals and my guitar came from old BR-8 tracks, cleaned up a little in GB and shipped off to Curry… who then added lovely guitar and shipped it back to me…who then had to admit that I couldn’t come up with a mix that I liked…back to Curry, who then did a most painstaking mix in Logic Express… you really have to see some of his screenshots with volume curves and edits to realize the work he put into this… Curry then posted FIVE versions of the mix, from which the two of us agreed on this one…
And then, of course, Curry put together the graphic…convincingly enough for my son to ask when Curry had come to visit and why had it happened when he, thepeep, was not home…
Curry is an amazing person to work with: patient, thoughtful, considerate, funny, tasteful and kind-hearted, and of course musically impeccable.
Curry, thank you with all my heart….
Currys comment:
I think this song by Ed is JUST LOVELY. Enough said about that. Now I want to give you a story from our collaboration instead. As you can understand it has been super nice to collaborate with Ed, but also sometimes little of a gentle adventure.
Early in our collaboration we discovered that I, with my probably longer Mac experience (Mac user since 1988), could help Ed by showing some of the many neat things build in to OS X and other things we needed to have working.
Then, one day, when I was working on adding lead guitar in Logic and had all the sound tracks like a puzzle over the screen, I wanted to feedback Ed of how things were proceeding so I mailed him a screendump of the Logic project. Quite soon I got a reply from Ed:
Curry,
I keep clicking on the Logic Express screen you sent, BUT IT WON'T PLAY!...
(You really did chop things up, didn't you?)
What do you reply to that? Probably he was joking and my answer should have been haha or LOL! But what if he WASN'T joking? ... that would have been quite rude an answer ... but then, what if I would give a pedagogical answer telling that it was only a picture?... that in turn would have been to underestimate his intelligence if he after all was joking ... and it would have exposed some lack of humor from my side too...
I didn't know what to do, so I replied nothing about that matter...
Later I had another mail from Ed:
I am now reading the Apple Pro Training Series book on Logic Express...
Still can't get that picture to play, though...
It's really impressive, though.... All those slices!...
Ed
I became like in a cold sweat ... What had I done? Will this poor man be spending days trying to force that terrible program so he could be able to listen to what I had done so far?... shit ... How could I be so stupid ... I should have told him directly ...
So what to do? I pondered over it for a few minutes, then - with a feeling I wanted to tell it in just small letters ... or in a very very small voice - I mailed him: you cant get the picture to play ... it is just a picture..
Next reply from Ed:
Curry:
I was joking...
Phew! So I found out that this man has a little fox behind the ear, as a swedish saying goes. Translates in my dictionary: he is a sly fox, or “wily bird”... (hope it has the same friendly nuance as in swedish use). Thanks for a great collab Ed!

Lyrics
The Kind of Lonely
Copyright 1988 Ed Hannifin
Capo: 1st fret
[Intro]
When you have to be alone
When companions are a curse
When pity drives you wild
When comfort makes it worse
There are days in every life
When the certain isn’t sure
And there are some kinds of lonely
Only lonely cures
When you know it can’t be helped
When you know it’s yours to bear
There are friends that you could call
But you don’t want them there
You’ve got no truck with the coarse
No patience with the pure
This is the kind of lonely
Only lonely cures
Perhaps it’s in your mind
Perhaps it isn’t real
But you need time for sorting out
What you know from what you feel
[Break]
When you’re bleeding deep inside
When it’s a self-inflicted wound
When you have to help yourself
When you have to do it soon
Like a falcon angry at the sky
That will not take the lure
This is the kind of lonely
Only lonely cures

Love the stero effect and the sweetness. The singin is terrific.
Nice pickin! The flow is cool.
Very entertaining!
