Description
:
i just can't get enough of uploading acoustic one-track demos!

was going to redo this and upload again, but have been busy and would rather spend what little time i have writing than working on recording.

and i've been convinced to upload as is.

so here it is. this took a while to get to where it is, but i like the ending...

Lyrics
:
hey you, what's that you say?
nevermind
i'm not listening anyway.

my mind's wandered out of sight
oh wait
i think it ran tonight

to other times
so far behind

so let's try together
get all high and fly together
blow the night away
blow the night away

i've put away all my friends
just until
this rain it ends

locked 'em up with broken toys
till come
yellow days & pretty boys

then maybe next year
we'll disappear

so let's try together
get all high and fly together
blow the night away
blow the night away

i still catch you hangin round
just go
before you drag me down

like happy new year
that came
with false promises of cheer

and other tales
and other lines

so let's try together
get all high and fly together
blow the night away
blow the night away

i'm crawling, falling
reaching out for you
can't you hear me calling
screaming, dreaming
turning blue

really liked the rhythm on the guitar and the vocals
are interesting. I think you should develop this song more,
maybe a cool bridge and some sax solo or something.
Think this could be a cool song Urb, the idea is very cool.

Really interesting and enjoyable song
Took two listens to settle in to my mind...but this is a very involving
song...I like the percussive guitar playing and the way you move to a
more lyrical tone at the end. I think that this could sound really good in
a more produced environment but this raw version certainly has the
merit of immediacy

yup - i like this and so does....
the bear! raw is good undoubtedly but.... some preparation.... marinade, a little seasoning, a slow simmer. your voice sounds so pure at the end of this and i would just like to hear what could be done - what can be done - what will be done when you have more time. love the guitar and the lyrics too. so darren, think on what these good people are saying - you are worth it! xxx

Nice Sketch
I think you have a really good start. Nice guitar and vocals. Need to
work on the recording and post production a bit. Need to clean up and
clarify the contents. I especially like the change toward the end off the
song. Good start.-JAC

Develop it!
This needs to be a full blown song, it's good enough to make the effort
worth it.

bolero... yeah. caroline had said it sounds like spanish guitar... so i guess i
must have invoked something unintentionally there.

Intense
This song is intense even in its softest and slowest moments. A very
good demo. I can imagine the possibilities with your layout. Love your
attack on the guitar. And your voice is pathos-drenched, like a sodden
trenchcoat on a blustery pre-Winter night. Wonderful!

Not too much I can say about this
Especially since lyrics are not my strong point (and that seemed to be
what you pointing at in the chat room) by I'll make a few comments.

During the last verse... introducing the new material on the guitar was
interesting... especially since it sounds unresolved... I would normally
say that I would've like have heard at least hints of it throughout the
song... but when combined with the lyrics it actually makes a little
sense. Most of your lyrics seem to be almost hopeful and follow the
same general line...

However the last verse of your song is quite melancoly... desperate and
unresolved in comparison to the rest of the lyrics which matches many
of my thoughts about the guitar lines.... so its very interesting and
somewhat appropriate in that sense.

A small critism though... the guitar line through the verses does get a
little repetitive... I think you could easily delete the outro from the 2nd
chorus (into the 3rd verse) without a problem... it would also help
change up the structure of the song a little and make that last verse
just a little faster (a bit of a climax).

Other than that, good work.

Not too much I can say about this
Composer -

Thanks for the in depth response!

There actually is a hint of it going to that place it goes at the end... If I rerecord
this better (and maybe a bit slower), it'll come through.

I like the idea of taking out the bit before the 3rd chorus - I agree that guitar bit
is repeated a lot, although that was the idea... I'm going to try that, though.

Thanks again for taking the time!

ok here we go
right well, im definately playing away from home on his one, live music
not being a forte, but here goes:

right, first off i like the individual guitar style. and the vocals are
indivdual as well. so thats a bonus. plus its good you actually have
lyrics that your pleased enough with to write down.

i felt that it sounded a bit like the unplugged cover of a really loud
moving rock piece. also i think that it sounded, with all the terse
strumming like it was really building towards something, and instead
of letting it fizzle out as you sort of did, i would have been tempted to
string all the terse guitar stuff into a big grandstand finish.

nevertheless, definately listenable, and original aswell, so respect to
you.

ok here we go
thanks broadside!

the end fizzles out for a reason, really. there's a plan behind the structure. i
agree that this could rock out at the end - maybe it could in another version.

Passionate
Can't wait to hear the 'finished' version but this one's full of raw passion
and I like that. Great vocals. Seems a tadge over long at the moment but
some of the suggestions by other commenters will sort that - e.g. some
sort of bridge or instrumental. Overall - good, please take it further.

yeah, i think i'm taking out some of the guitar intro in the third verse as was
suggested... breaks it up a bit!

energy
I really like the rhythm of that guitar. The wavering power of your voice
gives this a Bowie kind of feel. I enjoy this raw version but definitely think
this should be developed into a full production. Great demo. A lot could
be done with this to make it tremendous.
