Two Empty Shadows

Description
i began writing this after watching the news and learning that several soldiers were killed. it got me thinking about their wives and husbands, and the intimacy between them... and the horrible loss.

soon, the song began to mesh with my own, personal experiences of love, loss, and that grief over a lost relationship.

i truly thank you for listening and hope you enjoy it! peace!

Lyrics
Now the tides are turning
Blue horizon burning
Lighting up my eyes with memories
I can't escape the thought of you

Reaching out to empty shadows
I've finally realized
I can't deny
I'm still in love with you

Is it me or are you beautiful?
Is it me or in my mind?
I think you're beautiful
Am I wasting time?

Again the tides are turning
A certain bridge is burning
I'm tired of all these homicides
I'm tired of living life here without you!

Screaming out in fatalvision
It's too late, you are gone
And I am here
And I'm in love with you!

What can I do?

Is it me or are you beautiful?
Is it me or in my mind?
Yes, I think, you're beautiful
I think that...

I'd love to be there in the morning
my lover
I'd love to see you when you're sleeping
my lover
I'd love to hold you in the morning
my lover
I'd love to touch you when you're sleeping in the morning
my lover
I'd love to love you when you're sleeping in the morning
my lover
I'd love to love you when you love me in the morning
my lover

A hearty pat on the back
Good job...you have a unique aesthetic which is really refreshing, and this is another high-quality offering. I am not sure about the change towards the end to the fingerpicked part and back to the strumming. If it's going to change back to the strumming you might want to really build it up with a sort of full band with orchestra type of thing like "A Day in the Life", but retrofitting that onto what you've already recorded might be a pretty big challenge. Othwerwise I can see it just fading out on the fingerpicked part...As it is, this really works well with the rest of your oevre, and my suggestions are just that, merely vague impressions!

A hearty pat on the back
james, as always - you're a man of much wisdom. i read your comments and
i'm agast at how precise you are. i think perhaps the song might have trailed
off with just the one change. this is the kind of tune when playing alone on
the front porch, it works well. even with all three segments, it's easy on the
ears because the timing fits. but i agree with you and think the third part
might have been excessive in the recording aspect. i may redo this one and
do it "live," with nothing but barebones/one take/one track. or maybe not.
ugh.

thanks, james. i've come to rely on you for your thoughtful insights time and
time again.

nice haunting progressions
fresh unique style, as is the case with your stuff... overall I like the
song lyrics, melodies, and structure. In the beginning, the guitar
tuning & voice sounded slightly dissonant/off, not sure if that was
intentional, but it did put me on edge a bit. I agree with Jim that this
could become full-orchestral-epic in the middle or end, but the raw
intimacy is apropos too. Great emotion in your singing, really kicks it
up a notch!

Damn Good...
I love a song like this that "goes for it." You don't play it safe and
that makes this so listenable for me. Lyrics, song construction,
your performance... it is all damn good!

Nice edgy feel!
Nice tune Boris - like the edge on your voice and the way you use it to express the lyrics. Really like the middle section, and agree with Jim about the third section - maybe its just the transition to the third thats not quite right. Rather than go for a "bare bones" version, I'd suggest a more expanded (instrument wise) version, with rhythm section and things - its just my preference, I really like this as it is.

Wow
I wasn't expecting those changes in the arrangement. Jim's comments are
very insightful. I did get a sense of almost a psychedilic feel with the
arrangement shift ... and for some reason Itchycoo Park came to mind.

Good job!
I'm just blown away by all the amazing songwriting going on this site!. I'm obviously new here and maybe I'll get over it but for now, I'm happy to have discovered people like you and the rest of the folks I've been listening to here. Great vox and really interesting transitions in your guitar work.
Thanks!

Happy Valentine's Day, Boris!
I could have sworn I left a comment when this was first posted. I know I
heard it and liked it a lot. There's so much 'meat' here -- really
interesting turns in the music and storytelling lyrics. Top this off with
an emotional vocal performance and this song has so much going for
it. Really stellar work, Boris. You're so impressive!
