Description:
This is one of my most favorite classical tunes. I posted it here a while back, but this is a different version. Last time I used only the pencil tool in Garageband v.1.0... Took about five HOURS...hahahahaha... So I got smart and figured I'd do a guitar version, instead of note fer note like a mad man... ;)

Anywayz, I hope I didn't muck this tune up too bad, like I said it is one of my favorites..

-Cheers-

Original by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706)

New arrangement by ronnielong aka James M. Thatcher II

Guitars: Ronnielong

Nice updating of a very familiar tune &mdash 10/11/05 - 08:43:29 PM
I started playing this expecting yet another same-old version and was pleasantly surprised by something different. Lovely guitar playing. The opening fade-in might be a little too gentle; I thought the file wasn't playing at first.

Pachelbel with soul &mdash 10/11/05 - 09:22:05 PM
Only kvetch I got is it seemed too short... especially since this song is
all about that slow build. This guitar version is great, though. Definitely
adds a human flavor to it. Good on ya!

ha! &mdash 10/12/05 - 01:34:50 AM
In university we used to jokingly call this 'The Taco Bell Canon' (as
opposed to the Pachelbel Canon...) because it was so widely used on TV/
radio commercials, etc.
But you've done something really great and given it a nice, personal 'voice'
outside the syrupy strings that usually accompany this composition.
Refreshing, beautiful.

Melodic Guitar &mdash 10/12/05 - 09:34:19 AM
Love to hear people go in a different direction and try something new.
Of course, I am prejudiced because low volume, melodic flatpicked
guitar is one of my favorite genres. You have done a very nice job on
this and of course didn't muck it up but did it proud! I would love to
hear some more in this direction, perhaps an original tune?

Lovely &mdash 10/12/05 - 07:27:39 PM
This is also one of my favorites and I'm always interested in hearing
different interpretations. This one was very nice. Lots of little subtile
touches that give this a unique twist. Enjoyed it very much.

sweet ronnie &mdash 10/30/05 - 07:55:06 PM
Like that rhythm, nice melody, like that ovation sound. Sorry I didn't see
this sooner. Very nice style here, like the comtemorary feel of it too.

Bravo!

Good going!

It's funny. I really like baroque music. preludes, canons, fugues, tocattas,
you name it.

I haven't heard much outside of J.S. Bach, though...except for this
particular Johann Pachebel Canon in D, which I started out really liking as
a kid, but grew to detest as an adult...probably because of over-exposure.

You know what? I really, really like your version. It strikes a really great
balance between being true to the original and being fresh.

Fuckin' A!

very nicely executed &mdash 09/23/06 - 12:30:08 PM
This is a very interested take on the original. Is this mostly improv'd, or did you write out the guitar part first? Just curious. The guitar playing is very, very good, but there are a few instances where I thought the levels fluctuated a bit beyond what I'd expect from you (since you're such a damn good guitarist!). Even so, a little flaw here and there gives something like this character. Very soulfelt piece - excellent work!
