Description:
This song had been working its way to the surface over the past couple weeks. The source of the song was a result of some collaborations I've done recently and some people I've met. And they were my inspiration. To put the title in context, I've spent many a moment along the waters edge and watched the bird's fly above and marvel at their freedom and grace. And for those moments have connected with them and glide along in the thermals and have that freedom. And for however brief the moment, my life was complete. I hope you enjoy the song.

Nice riffs! &mdash 10/14/05 - 11:37:12 AM
I really like the way this builds up and then falls right back down at the
end - really dynamic. You can work that six-string of yours. You can work
it well.
Good work! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks ein for listening and being the first to comment. I love playing the
electric guitar and I'm happy you enjoyed the song.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Really nice guitar playing, John! Good dynamics in this one, alternating the gentle and the all out. Hey, I'm glad to have collaborated with you, and I hope we do it again; you're guitar playing is sweet! [ Reply to This ]

David I always look forward to you comments and they are always
appreciated. Imagine that, I actually managed to do a song with some
dynamics, rather the flat out wall to wall guitar. Go figure. Doing the collab
with you was the best and I'm pleased you want to do more and we will. And
then we tour the world starting in Seattle of course. Thanks again David.-JAC [ Reply to This ]
Swoopin and divin &mdash 10/14/05 - 11:39:11 AM
Yes, this certainly does follow the hyperbolic curvatures of birds in
flight. Air, water, surf, spray. Great draft! You should pump this out to
the ocean front from your big boy car speakers and see if the birds get
more graceful or crash dive in utter rapture. [ Reply to This ]

Richard thanks for your comments. As I was playing the slide I closed my
eyes and could see the birds flying. I appreciate your insight and I'm happy I
could take you on the flight.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

cj I'm glad you like the song and I don't know whether you put two and two
together but you were the seed for this song. You may recall, awhile back I
was having some word play with you and gave you the name Seajay. Well no
sooner did I think Seajay, the words Ocean Bird came to mine. And that
reminded me of lying on the beach in Mexico watching all the bird flying
about. Armed with a guitar riff with no home, one thing lead to
another and out came the song. So this one is for you. Thanks.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Glad to be an inspiration! :) [ Reply to This ]

Oh caroline I always look forward to your comments and chatting with you in
the mornings. As for working, well playing music and taking pictures
certainly makes the other work I do much easier. Thank you for your
comments and I'm delighted you like the song.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Very intresting bass playing, havent heard something like this for a long
time.
The effect is very fitting, long and drifts off between notes, like gliding. [ Reply to This ]

bass on I'm glad you like how I did it. Thanks.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Like the interplay especiallyy when it starts to get rythmic.
Almost like a southern rock feel in places. [ Reply to This ]
nice &mdash 10/15/05 - 01:15:54 PM
Great melody and guitar playing. This is very cool, powerful and
energizing. Beautiful and inspiring.
That said, the mix needs a lot of work. It sounds like the bass was
recorded over the telephone. It took me a while to even find the bass part
in there. The overall EQ of this is extremely thin, like all of the lower end
was completely cut. Maybe that was an artistic choice but to me it seems
counter to the lush melody and playing style. At least fix that bass track.
As it is now it has zero presence. Put the bass back in the bass and it will
do wonders for this potentially fantastic sounding music. [ Reply to This ]
nice &mdash 10/17/05 - 04:30:43 PM
PG thanks for your comments and especially your detailed critique. I tend to
mix on the bright side anyway so that may account for the lack of a lower end
and yes I guess you could say it was an artistic choice. With that said I'm very
aware of the EQ and I'm just now learning how to use. Telephone line, I like
that. I tried the bass several ways and this is what I thought worked best for
me. I was trying to use the bass as another lead instrument so that may be
why it sounds the way it does to you. Thanks again for taking the time to
write such a good comment.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Power and Grace &mdash 10/16/05 - 12:19:08 PM
Really tasty stuff. Carried me upward, soaring, and returned me gently
back to earth. Very nice work on the guitar and great sound on the
drums. Love the tone on the lead guitar. How are you achieving that, if
you don't mind me asking? [ Reply to This ]

Power and Grace &mdash 10/17/05 - 12:35:16 PM
AquilA thanks for the comments and DL. I'm glad you liked my playing
especially when the commpliments come from another guitar player. As for
my guitar sound, beleive it or not I just use the tools available in GB. The
only diffrence might be that a long time ago I had my Strat totally redone.
New pickups, locking nut, Floyd Rose wammie bar. So that may account for
some of the sound. The locking nut is great, I can really bend a string and
not loose tune. The slide part is played with standard tuning so I can still
play a riff in the middle of a slide bit if I choose. Thanks again.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

the first song I have used a live bass so I'm especially happy you mentioned
it. Thanks.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

Relaxing yet still rocks &mdash 10/16/05 - 08:41:27 PM
I like how this is still rock, but it seems relaxing. It flows very nicely and
the tune changes up just enough. Nice one chak.

Ben thanks for the comments and the DL. This song show my mellower side,
hehe but not for long wouldn't want anyone to think I was gettn' soft. I
enjoyed doing the song and the way the dynamics came togethers. I've been
diggn' some of your stuff lately so maybe that where the softer edge came
from. Thanks again.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

these birds ROCK!!! &mdash 10/17/05 - 09:34:44 AM
Thanks alfa I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I have a house in Baja, Mexico
and spend as much time there as I can. Being an unspoiled place for the
most part, the birds thrive there. So sitting on the beach there are aways
many birds to watch. The song came together through what appeared to be
un-related things but as the idea formed I became aware of just what I do as I
sit on the beach.-JAC [ Reply to This ]

gimme more bass &mdash 10/18/05 - 10:51:55 AM
John,,,,,
i enjoyed listening to the guitar parts, nice slides and sounds.
Maybe needs a little change in the middle of the song, like a cool
bridge or something to keep me interested. You got some nice
licks going on. Could not hear the bass very well, maybe bring
that up in the mix a little bit.
Some good ideas in there.

Nice mellow guitar rock &mdash 10/18/05 - 03:32:49 PM
Definitely the sort of thing I'd listen to while chilling out on my ocean lanai, sipping some kind of fruity frozen cocoction and watching the sunset. Very minimalist, which for this sort of song is perfect. [ Reply to This ]

very nice guitar playing...I like the simplicity of the song...it has a certain soulful input that really conveys your sense of freedom when you are playing the guitar, which I assume is your instrument of escape just as the wings are to the birds...very liberating and refreshing to listen [ Reply to This ]
Dunno about birds &mdash 10/22/05 - 08:25:15 PM
They'd all fly off from the kick*ss drums & sliding guitars! ;-) It was slow
to build, but a good build at the end... in the beginning, I was having a
little trouble with the slides. I like slides, but these were very slow to
move up to the notes, and I felt myself trying to bend the note up into
place. But as it picked up steam, I really got into it, and liked the overall
song.

Great guitar work &mdash 10/24/05 - 03:47:00 AM
Love the guitar tones you have hear...good rock sound but with not too
overbearing..a classic sound. KInd of reminds me of Lynrd Skynrd
(nevercan spell that) in places. The melodic slide playing is
great...sounds like you had fun recording it!
