Keywords:
fingerstyle guitar (21)tradisional (1)swedish (11)folk music (4)folk song (2)acoustic guitar (66)finger style (1)
Description:
A swedish traditional folk wedding march, (not the same as the ”Jämtländsk brudmarsch” which I posted a couple of months ago).

Dictionaria:

Brudmarsch = ”bride march”.
Larshöga Jonke is a personal name (which sounds old and provincial and would have been an odd name today).

Recorded with only one microphone. A good one, but I regret not using two. I miss the stereophonic space that two microphones produce, especially on headphones. I am still learning and from now on I will use two mikes for serious recording...

Lyrics:
.

Hardware:
Milinda; my Furch D24 dreadnought guitar
ADK TC51; my friends semi-pro tube mik
Proo Tools on a pc (sadly). then a CD for transfer to (phew!) my Mac...

Software:
Logic Express

Very nice &mdash 10/15/05 - 11:11:58 AM
Like this alot.
You get a terrific tune here.
Love it.
Like that picture, very warm to go with the warm sound.
Like how your tune is very rich in the bass arena, it rings very clear!

Good going indeed!

Wonderful Sound &mdash 10/15/05 - 11:16:29 AM
I really enjoyed it. Beautiful acoustic sound. I'm not familiar with acoustic
recording techniques, but you mentioned you regret not recording with
two mics. Hard to believe two mics would make it sound better, but what
do I know?

Played very clean.

If you want you could listen to Jämtländsk brudmarsch to hear what two mikes
will do ... (at http://www.macjams.com/song/12244)

...I can hear you breathing...

I'm listening on headphones, and if you hadn't clued me in, I wouldn't
have picked up on it not being a stereo track...are you using some
stereo reverb, maybe?...

That tube mic is awesome...it's capturing a lot of wood and plenty of
bronze...it's full and warm, and yet when there's some metal in the
sound it rings out bright and clear...the slow fade of the final note is
gorgeous...

And then there's your playing...What haven't I said about your playing?

Nothing. That's right.

You always communicate the emotional core of the song...OR, it's the
emotional core of YOU, coming to life through the song...in any case, I
never have the sense you're just 'playing the tune', just doing this note
after that note... you're profoundly musical from the beginning to
end... There's profound depth of soul in everything you do...

This is simple and beautiful....

Ya, like that tube mic.

That is amazing the difference. I didn't know that the flash player would slow
things down that much. Still both sounded nice!

Good going
Cool mic indeed!

I think it is because when I got the recordings from my friend Jocke who helped
me record, it was encoded in 48 kHz instead of usual 44 kHz. Then when I
bounce it to mp3 from Logic Express it makes it a 48 kHz mp3. Seems like
QuickTime is able to distinguish but not Flash...

[ Reply to This ]
Cori, man... &mdash 10/17/05 - 08:40:41 AM
Exactly. I've got the same problem since my UA-25 samples at 48KHz too. But
there's a solution: in iTunes you may right-click on the bounced MP3 and
convert the MP3...to MP3 again! The trick is to configure the Importation filter so
that it converts to 44,1 KHz: Preferences > Advanced > Importation and you
may look in the Details here to check the sampling or modify the settings. I
always apply this conversion before posting.

And thank you for posting this song, it's beautiful to listen to traditional music,
and your guitar is clean and expressive.

A really nice piece.. very relaxing to listen to...the tone of the acoustic
guitar is really great. This has an ancient feel to it...and I mean that in a
good way!

listening to these traditional tunes that you post. I feel like I get a hint
of the life and history of your land "over there."

Beautiful tune, beautiful tone - the mic is amazing, and is hence well
suited to your playing. This is a classic example of getting a good
strong signal to get a good strong output. The micing is brilliant!

This really does take the listener to a different place and time, and it's
a nice place to visit. Thanks for the wonderful addition to my Curry
songbook. Neil

Swedish wedding marches are, but I love melancholy tunes and this
one is gorgeous. Thank you for your lovely music.

First of all I would like to thank you for all the comments you`ve written about my tunes and now is the time to give something back!
Your sound is, as always, very briliant and warm. Your playing is, as always, exact and soulful. Your compositions are, as always, well structured and intelligent.
It`s always fun to listen!

Present Tense &mdash 10/16/05 - 07:22:46 PM
Vast engaging melodic "Feel" - very Fresh.

My Classically trained friends always say that Nuance is the ease of
technical proficiency. You may be "still learning" your recording
preferences, but the many-colored nuance of the piece is riviting.

While the power of a D-24 can sometimes seem less than nimble, this
presentation is lithe and multi-faceted; a master's work going straight
to the permanent library.

The spare and strong Swedish sensibility is evoked purely here (my
wife is Swedish And a Classical musician, and was greatly pleased
being introduced to this piece).

Thank you for this Fine offering.

I was amazed how much a difference it made to listen with the QT
player. then when i clicked on both it made for quite a sonic
experience in disorientation!
But this is really quite lovely! I don't mind the mono recording, as long
as the simpler setup enables you to capture the fresh sound of this
traditional music. I do hear a little breath sound just before the ending
phrase, but it just makes this all that much more intimate. Excellent!

Thats a nicely performed guitarsong. Makes me think of the timeless compositions by Jonny English, for that TV-series "Against the winds". There is certanly a great feeling of something medevial in this guitarrsound.

Being swede myselfe i recognise the typical melancholy of old Swedish folksongs. Beauty with a touch of acceptance of sadness.

by the Swedish Virtuoso. Thanks for posting.

Ah &mdash 10/24/05 - 06:46:16 AM
Sentimental, nostalgic, tender, sad, thoughful, deep, lustful and real.
Good guitar picking, very good. This song makes me think, how did they
look at a marriage back then, what did go through their minds. It must
have been a very big day of celebrations, added the drama and realism
the music brough into it. Saying goodbye to something that was and
welcoming something new. Boy to a man, girl to a woman. Your music
has really opened up my eyes for this type of folk music which I sadly
have to admit I never listened too much back in Sweden. I will from now
on. Thank you.

Never knew i had that in me &mdash 10/30/05 - 04:19:24 PM
I am hardly ever sentimental... I cry only when I experience a great loss in
life. So why is this song making me feel that way? This is something I
can listen to while watching the scenery through the train window...as it
takes me home to my mother who patiently waits for me at the station.

tight.

Well, I'll blame Cori's music for that drama scene.

Very soulful playing; from all the heart-felt feedback, it is obvioius that
you have the ability to reach out and touch others with your music.
Thank you.

It is interesting to me that this is wedding music; it speaks to me in a
deep, sad/solemn way, quite unlike the sappy fare one often hears at
wedings!
