Description:
(I've reposted this remix with a much kinder, gentler hi-hat. My apologies to all who had to put up with the steam train running amok through that last remix!)

This is a remix of the original Off Kilter, where I tried to put in the changes that were requested most often in the comments. The kick beat has been boosted, the bass line has been made more interesting, and I've added some other percussion that plays on the other rhythms already present. I also fixed a goof in the beginning of the song, where the triangle is only playing for 3 measures before the first synth comes in (it's supposed to be 4 measures) -- and rejiggering all of those custom volume and pan curves was a pain in the neck!! (;-D)

The song is now built from 17 tracks, and only 5 of them are stock loops. Everything else is either an original track built using the pencil / musical notation tools (most of the percussion, the main synth lines), or else a loop that has been chopped up and/or had the notes rearranged via the pencil (and in some cases, even had the instrument changed from the original).

In the process, the song got 30 seconds longer as I used the new percussion tracks to improve the build of the opening section. I think it's an overall improvement in the sound and energy of the song, but of course you good folks are the ones who decide if it's really better or if I'm full of it. ;-)

Please listen, comment / vote, and (I hope) enjoy!

a bit more subdued than previous versions, but good. Rather like a

much better version &mdash 10/18/05 - 05:48:32 AM
Glad you liked it! I agree, it's time for something new. But I guess I'm like
Ginz111 in that way -- we both want a song to be the best it can be before
we move on to the next one! :-)

A good song, made better with the tweaks of perfection. Sounds
cleaner... nice! Thank you for listening to critiques and patiently
reworking this, good job!

Not my favorite genre... &mdash 10/18/05 - 11:35:02 AM
...but I kinda liked it. Good beat and a spacious vibe.
It got a little repeatitive, though. Maybe that's what trance music does -
I'm not entirely sure.
Great production, though - sounds cool.
Good job.

Good flow &mdash 10/18/05 - 03:22:56 PM
It's mostly on-kilter, I think, but those bits of modulation do put it on the edge a bit. Nice flowy groove you got here... I imagine it being the soundrack to something science fiction and intriguing. I really like the bass/synth that comes in around 3:00. Cool stuff aralim!

Nice &mdash 10/18/05 - 05:02:29 PM
Nice beat and build up. I think the pans work good and you get a nice
sound with synth. The mix is good and my only nit pic would be that
there seems to a vacum right after each drum beat in the beginning. I
guess I want to hear the drum fad out rather then stop. I was going
through the closet looking for the cylume sticks :-). Nice.-JAC

Infinitely better!!! &mdash 10/21/05 - 09:45:12 AM
I think that all your tender remixing and work has produced a 100% Trance mix that kept me entranced for the full length of the piece.

Yes. I enjoyed listening to it all.

Twice, when the mix goes quieter, I found myself 'jumping' out of a trance but my reaction added to my appreciation of the piece and it was my own fault for letting the beat get to me.

Thanks for uploading this version. It works for me.

interesting mix of sounds. Thanks for sharing

builds well &mdash 10/22/05 - 09:18:43 AM
its done quite subtly displaying far more patience than i do with my
tunes and i like the way it doesn't ever got too far, cos i think this
works better as a subdued piece.

ont the minus your drum roll at 3:05 is a bit off, and i was expecting a
bit more at the breakdown. also the regular disharmonies - though
obviously deliberate - dont really do much for me.

in al lthough a solid tune

Like it &mdash 10/22/05 - 12:09:12 PM
Metal head here, just getting into the production of trance/ambient myself and thought this one was right-on. I particularly like the breaks and the progressions. Some might view that as having a quality that sort of ties it to the conventional, bit I particularly like some of that and I think this one goes out on a limb in other ways and enough that it's FRESH. Thanks for sharing it with us. Very inspiring.
