Description:
This song was written and originally sang by mrcjtm - he posted a forum inviting singers to sing it .... I couldn't resist !!!! The lyrics are his ... the score is his ... the vocals are mine. First I owe A HUGE apology to mrcjtm for "flubbing some of his lyric" ... in my attempts to learn how to cut and paste and re-record small sections of songs ... I managed to correct two areas - however - there is one line (due to my limited software use abilities) I was unable to correct - so it is posted lyrically incorrect on my part. Secondly, I also apologize for my lack of expertise in mixing my vocals - it was my first attempt at mixing myself - eeeeek .... and apologize for the volume levels jumping in places ... (or is it me screaming)???? Anyway - I wanted to post the song mostly to get feedback on the vocal positioning (I was slightly reprimanded for singing all over the lead guitar solo ... ooops) but decided to post as is and let the people decide. Mrcjtm's original version is posted on his page - you can hear how the vocals were originally intended and the timing of same.

I really like the sound of your voice. It compliments the guitars well. I
only noticed a couple volume jumps, those can be easily remedied. The
placement of your vocals sounds fine to me. Though I'm pretty new to
mixing as well.

...but i'm not complaining :-) I was gonna give it a try to put vocals on
this song, but i havent had the time to do it sooner. Your rendition
certainly sets a high bar. Your voice is versatile and has a pro quality to
it. Although your vocals are better suited for other genres, you pulled
this one effortlessly. The only thing lacking is probably some harmonies
to give it some color, but as you said u are just beginning to learn GB.
There is also a little bit of clipping of the vocals; I think you have to stay a
little farther away from the mic. Very impressive effort from a GB

Thank you Leon ... it's true I am not used to singing into a condenser mic at all ..... my experience rests with the dynamic mic and the KARAOKE mixers ability to make me sound OK .... now that job is mine and I MUST learn more ..... [ Reply to This ]

Nice guitarwork mrcjtm, good songwork & lyrics, Alannah's voice is great,
dead-on singing, nice emotion in the voice... just need to get you some
better recording equipment (and watch that clipping!)... you know, with
new Macs just announced, older powerful G5s should be coming down in
price now, just in time for Christmas :-)

You have a very unique singing style and I like the power and emotion
you put behind voice. I like the guitar playing and the bridge guitar
was very nice. I agree with some of the others on the production side
but you will improve in time and one thing about Macjams is there are

I really liked listening to this song.
It needed some harmony (as mentioned above) and the mixing was a bit
uneven at times but those are little nitpicks to an otherwise nice listening
experience.

song! wish i could have had a bit more clarity in the anunciation so i could
grasp the lyrics more, but i'm plenty guilty of that all the time. oh well.

Unfortunately for the song ... I did the vocal mixing myself ... with no clue on how to use the software or how to clean up the mix .... NOW I usually ask someone for help in the mixing aspect of songs I am collaborating on (which is all of them). .. this was the first thing I ever tried to mix myself ... and at the time I had absolutely NO idea (not entirely convinced I know yet what I am doing when it comes to mixing) ... but I can hear how much better it could sound .... (and I think I flubbed the lyrics and never did go back and fix it - my bad) .... but I like this song and have often thought about redoing it ... maybe this could be an anniversary project .... we should all re-do our first post on an anniversary ... see if we have actually improved any.
