Lyrics:
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a chid,
In this kingdom by the sea:
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this Kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her high-born kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdomby the sea)
That the wind came out of a cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Wow. COOL. Love the backdrops. You have a perfect cracked voice for
this. I can't wait to see what every one does with these. Thanks for taking
my licensing suggestion. I think it'd be cool if these pieces start showing
up on the Poe sites.

I also think it would be cool if we could get each poems done. A long term
project. I like what you did!

Terrif-ic concept and production &mdash 10/22/05 - 10:54:09 AM
the wind is a perfect setting for this and all it's variances that you have.
Your voice fits it nicely. Like that ending as well. I like the subtle ending,
the mystery of it. Your raising the bar for word entertainment!

The whole poem is perfect for this voicing and sound!

hauntingly good :^)

Terrif-ic concept and production &mdash 10/22/05 - 01:53:11 PM
Thanks, Tiler. I used ocean beach sounds and modified them to sound more
mystereous, more like how the sea might sound from inside a tomb by the sea.

I definitely need practice in my spooky soundscapes; you got this one down. Very well performed too.

Wow &mdash 10/22/05 - 04:16:07 PM
This brings back memories!
This was a poem that my father read to us kidlets often (yeah, Dad...what
were you doing reading creepy poetry like this to us!? ;)
Well, and we read it too! I used to have a book of Edgar Allen Poe stories,
in addition to hearing the poems.

Do I detect the Tell-Tale Heart in the distance? ;)

Very nice production and performance, Peter.

Thanks, Mysti. Parents tell the most grim of stories to their children sometimes
without even realizing it.

Ring around the rosie,
pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Ah, the Black Plague never sounded so sweet.

wow, perfect performance. Admit I don't usually *listen* to poetry, or
even read it.. but you do so well I can't help but be captivated by the
story.

Loved it, nice elderly edge to your voice, echos were not too distracting,
good use of sound effects, chillingly great work!

good idea &mdash 10/23/05 - 02:14:06 AM
to do a poem like that.
I like all the FX and the way it was performed.
Nice one Peter, very fun to listen to.
You should do more spoken word pieces.

Cheers

Brilliantly strange &mdash 10/23/05 - 04:16:29 PM
Woooh ... creepy and beautifully delivered. The long delay on the echo
creates some lovely effects.

Modified beach sounds ... now that's a clever idea. They really give it
an atmosphere. Excellent.

great poem &mdash 10/25/05 - 09:32:09 AM
awesome rendition. I've always loved this poem and it is great to hear it read in a way that takes me back to my old halloween stories on record from when I was young... like the wind in the willows... terrific

great poem &mdash 10/25/05 - 12:20:21 PM
Thanks, Syz. I always like it when I can conjure up some nostalgia. It had been
ages for me since I'd last read this poem, probably back in highschool.

Restrained and Haunting &mdash 11/01/05 - 03:55:34 AM
I like your reading here and minimal accompaniment.

Side note - First impression was "Oh my". I purposely didn't listen to the
Poe songs before doing my production - but I wish I had. LOL - I did a
similar reverb on the Christopher's vocal in his reading towards the end
and a low bass effect and heart beat.

love the drama in your voice...you make Poe proud

Peter: Finally got around to checking out this Halloween special. Nice
reading. Your whispering voice cracks and drips with emotion. Nice
effects to support the "by the sea" setting.
