Description:
The main goal was just to create something for this" target="_blank">http//www.macj/... thread, and to practice GarageBand a little.A little post-mortem for this track: I was at my Mom's house last night and I listened to this on her G5 iMac, which has no external amplifier like I have. (I have some M-Audio BX5a powered monitors.) With the volume at maximum on the iMac, everything is far too quiet to hear. So I think I have learned a big lesson about watching the signal level meters a bit closer, and test-listening on other systems before releasing.

Very effective use of gliding sounds. Maybe some of the instruments are
too "easy", but so many ideas...and moreover you declared to have mostly
played with GB. I like the mix too...but about this I'm not reliable since I'm
an absolute beginner at the mixer table.

Soundtrackses it is :) &mdash 10/23/05 - 06:57:19 PM
One positive mention of the mix is good for me. I have no
experience, either. I was afraid that I had the levels all wrong
after I uploaded it, because I played someone else's track and
got my ears blasted out. I had turned my volume way up during
mixing, and I think the final product ended up quiet as a result.
Who knows.
I think I know what you mean by instruments being "easy" in this
one...like the spooky church organ, and the spooky circus organ,
and the well-timed piano "plonk"...cliches for the genre, I know.
I know it should be possible to escape the cliches, because other
tracks mentioned in that same thread seem to do it successfully.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I feel like I'm at the bottom
of a very tall mountain here.

That makes my day -- Thank you, Mungo!
It's funny, I listened to "(Further) Demented" about
three times yesterday, and never listened to the original
until this comment. I was staring at the artwork, swearing
that I'd seen it before, but how could I not recognize it!?
I thought my mind was slipping.

Hey Screaming.org.,
First, let me comment that you are one funny sum' bitch. I think I
may have rubbed a few out to the low-impact aerobics as well
(before broadband, there was Victoria's Secret, Aerobics videos
and Spanish television). I give you credit for being so open about
it.
I'll be honest about your song. I listened to it, and although I
wasn't tapping my feet, I definitely sensed some genious.
Demented genious? Possibly, but genious nontheless. Perhaps it
was the simplicity, or the achievement of the message you were
trying to convey. Either way, it is interesting. I had an electronic
music teacher in college. He was Japanese. He was very critical of
all of our work, and when he brought his own work, I was very
surprised to hear how 'unmusical' it was. It was a sequence of
blips and beeps. No rhymes, no patterns - however it was a work
that took him years to complete. I guess it is abstract music.
Maybe it was his culture. I don't know - I never really got it.
But anyway - thanks for the kind words, and lets hear another
track from you soon. Keep an eye out for a new posting from me
soon as well. It's going to be my flagship piece.

Okay! &mdash 10/24/05 - 09:18:57 PM
So don't put lyrics if they aren't there. Maybe I didn't listen closely
enough? Bah! I dig the track.
I like the weird layering. I like the back and forth.
I want a bit more though. I want a person yelling, a woman crying, a
boy lost. I want something added that makes the time spent worth it.
I like the sounds, just not sure of what they mean. Imagery without
pictures.
Thanks.

Okay! &mdash 10/25/05 - 04:36:52 AM
Thank you for lending your ears & comments. The lyrics are
in there, pretty low in the mix, though...sounds a bit like a
boy who can't find his brother ("Erik")...the "Kyle" appears after
the percussive impact before the circus organ, and it was
meant to sound like a blood-curdling reaction to some violent
event. There is also some laughter & a door closing when the
circus-organ begins.
I think you're right that these are too distant sounding. What
happened is that I was at the same point you're at...wanting
to add something to make the time well spent. I turned on the
mic to catch a brief spat between my two youngest sons, and
my elder son laughing about something. It was more real a
performance than I could expect to get from something planned,
so I decided to cut it up and use it.
Alas, there was too much his in the source material that I couldn't
make it stand out more.
Thank you for your feedback!

Well yes it is kinda quiet but actually I like that - you have to listen out as
you would if you'd heard something scary nearby in the dark. This hangs
together really well - took me by the hand and led me gently to a dark
place.
Good work oh Screaming one.

you can download a program like amadeus II and use the

use compression or limiting to keep the meters in the green. I
hope this is useful. [ Reply to This ]

Wow, now, is this the first tune that you posted??? I'm only become
familiar with abstact through listening to guys like, Mungo and STun,
so I can't believe that this is your first. Those guys are veterans and
thei is every bit as good and so on....
Nice bed of textures. I scare easily and can become uncomrortable with
the level of spook that is typically created here. Something about this
was calming in a very strange way though... It was more like a
halucinational image, one that might be drug induced... Or this would
work in a scene where someone just punched a needle into their arm...
All of a sudden, the earth starts to vibrate with everything coming into
life... Very vivid image in my mind. This is good. This is really good!
I didn't just say that I've done drugs and I'd found them to be
comforting at some point in my life, - did I... Just say no to drugs...

Fascinating &mdash 11/03/05 - 11:19:54 PM
I listened once through my speakers, but I could tell that I had missed
a lot, so I put on my headphones and tried again. That really opened it
up. I could hear the faint voices and lots of really interesting, layered
sounds that swam from ear to ear in a spooky, resonant ballet. I'm far
from an expert on experimental/abstract pieces. I tend to be rather
pedestrian in my tastes, but I can recognize talent when I hear it. [ Reply to This ]
