Description:
A song about longing for escape. It's dark, but still a bit fun.

Lyrics:
Sometimes I wish I could be in a cornfield
at the end of the day
and spot a UFO on the horizon
and get taken away

I want to get abducted
Say goodbye to the Earth for a night
and leave my worries behind
And when i'm floating through comets and stars so dense
Maybe it all would make sense

We'd race across the universe, see the marvelous and bizarre
And they would show me how to make s'mores on a star
They'd show me their lazers and gadgets, and technological things
after we'd burned some rubber on one of Saturn's rings

Then I'd say-

"Well, I am awfully impressed by all of your technology, but in your endless research, have you discovered what it all means?"
Then they'd just stare at me, kind of confused-ish
with their big black eyes and their almond faces
because they don't speak English.

Interesting tune &mdash 10/27/05 - 07:08:55 AM
Like the sci-fi sounds you got going there...particularly that theremin
effect -great!!. My only crit is that the vox sound a bit loud and harsh
in the mix, I would prefer to hear them pushed back with some reverb
added. Maybe you could add a second repeat vocal with echo,,,enhance
that spacy vibe?

Interesting tune &mdash 10/27/05 - 07:10:31 AM
Thanks for the comment. I kept working with the vocal track to make it sound less flat, but nothing was working. So, I'm going to re-record them when I get my imic this week :)

Thanks again!

many redeeming qualities &mdash 10/27/05 - 08:01:36 AM
I don't think the "1" vote on the writing/content makes sense at
all. The punchline about not speaking english is very funny.
The general storyline is a fantasy that I've had myself, so it
resonates with me.

I did find myself wishing that you had kicked the song up
a notch or two...or ten...after the end of the second stanza.
I'm not sure how, or exactly in what way, but I thought the sounds
behind the first two stazas were a good mood-setting introduction
that needed some sort of contrast or elaboration as the song
progressed.

Maybe an alien bombed it... &mdash 10/27/05 - 08:41:11 AM
....just because he disagreed with it's basic premise. He was like, "yeah, right, like a human would actually have the temerity to say something like that! He would be trembling in abject fear and besides with my big brain of course I speak that elementary language of English" Your content might just have offended an alien. The alien did respect your performance and production enough to give you a good/solid/skilled score in that regard.

But I think the production could be improved. It sounds like the basic recording of the vocal is distorted, like maybe you were too close to the mic. If it's a distortion effect you are using, though, maybe it's a little too loud and harsh. I like the simulation of the theremin, it's cool.

seems to me that the production &mdash 10/27/05 - 09:27:51 AM
had a lot of nice thought into it. Your wordage was well done. I like how
you had a happy kind of ending where you want to go back to earth.

i noticed you are dealing with a built in mic, it might be kind of tough to
work out the clarity of the vocal but keep going and write more thing and
put it up. You do deserve better score, just the happy ending alone is
worth a better score!

Thanks for sharing

Just mirroring some comments &mdash 10/27/05 - 09:41:53 AM
Yeah, like the other guys said, the one isn't deserved. I think I count as
one of the harsher markers around here, but I consider most of what
you've done at least better than average. (You've had a go at
simulating a theremin... you deserve points for that at the least)

Some comments though, the vocals do sound as if they were just done
through a really horrible mic and played too loud out of a horrible
speaker. If you wanted this sort of distorted effect to fit in better with
the song... you could try bitcrushing instead.. with a bit of tinkering
you could easily get it to sound like you're singing down a phone line
(or across the internet). After all, current interstallar commincation
doesn't happen at 44.1khz and 16bit audio quality.

(shame GB doesn't have automation though... you could go crazy with
'Matrix' like effects with the voice... going in and out of the bitcrushing
and all)

As far as the theremin goes. Try using a sine wave generator instead...
at the moment it sounds like you're using something like a saw wave or
something equally harsh. The time I got to muck around with a
theremin it was a much smoother quality (hence the suggestion of a
sine wave)... besides... all the other textures you are using are very
harsh/distorted so it would be a very nice contrast.

With the suggestion of kicking it up a notch... yeah I reckon you
could've done that easily. There was quite a lot of space you could've
filled up... especially in the bass end. That loud synth sound in the end
was just missing that huge deep sub sound that would've made it so
much... err... huge-er.

Wit and Wimsy, a Poem/Song. Love the Lyric.

Say, you kids and the MIDI controller hypnotism. I like the Other-worldly
quality to the Radar-return repeater signal sound, until it wrestles with
the Vocal for center of the Soundscape. That space says Reserved on it,
No? Clearly, I'm not fully Post-modern/Industrial, aesthetically.

Good Story and Presentation.

This tune reminds me of my favourite 80ies tunes. I only miss the synthi
riffs :)

Marvelous and Bizarre &mdash 11/09/05 - 11:22:55 AM
I really like the story and the way you've performed it. I agree with the
others on most issues, but for me, the fuzzy poorly mixed vocals worked
OK. Your songs are where I hoped WEEN would've gone after their Pure
Guava album, but they polished up their production way too much and
candy coated their songs which lost me as a fan for the most part. There's
something so honest about your songwriting style. I don't think I'd trust
you if this sounded much better. Just kidding. There's always room for
improvement. Maybe your new mic will help you get the vocals you desire.
I really can't wait to hear more songs from you.
