Description:
A new one, started on my Zoom PS02 pocket recorder and finished up in Logic Express.

Lyrics:
On the ferry home
You did not go my way
Shook me to the bone
Or was it just the boat sway
Mistaking the motion for emotional waves
Mr Johnson mishehaves
On the ferry home
Trying to make my thoughts blank
We are not alone
That is not my gangplank
Displacing the ocean with emotional pain
Mr Johnson misbehaves
Mr Johnson misbehaves
Like he's got something to say
He just stands there in the way
Needs a bigger pair of pants today
On the ferry home
You did not go my way
Shook me to the bone
Or was it just the boat sway
Mistaking the moment for an opening cage
Mr Johnson misbehaves

Don't Give Him Your Address &mdash 10/29/05 - 08:52:45 AM
Not sure what Mr. Johnson is protesting, be he seems caught in a futile
plea to the gods of fairness.

Real nice Vocal Range and control from upper to lower register. Clearly
a fine instrument here. The Bass challenges the Vocal space a bit
initially, but then backs out.

Love the Lead Guitar behind the final couplet. Maybe we should see
more of it in some other support, like some of the transitions? The Tin
Chorus of the Tamborine also lends support and empathy.

A good Journal piece of the Passing Parade.

Best,
Cooper

THE Mr. Johnson &mdash 10/29/05 - 08:57:46 AM
Love the Ironic Idealization of the Graphic artwork. The Grey Flannel
Father-Knows-Best, who is about to lose it.

Took me along on the ride &mdash 10/29/05 - 12:21:31 PM
I get the feeling from the lyrics of the chance encounter that "might have been" sort of happening (or not happening, as the case may be). In that context, the song carried me on an interesting emotional ride, making the ferry a metaphor as well as an actual localion. A very memorable ride, I should say.

you're playful &mdash 10/29/05 - 07:43:55 PM
How did you hide the real subject of the piece so well? After
scrutiny, there it is right in front of me: bone, trying to think of
nothing to mitigate said bone, needing a bigger pair of pants,
"cage" (something that restricts movement), and finally Mr. Johnson.

Very subtle, very funny. I like the "gangplank" line.

Thanks! I was worried that I was being too subtle, so your reaction means a lot
to me. The last thing I wanted this song to be was overblown (no pun intended)
comedy. Just a simple song about an uncontrollable primordial reflex.

Funny &mdash 10/30/05 - 01:17:39 AM
I got the joke from the title so your lyrics were a lot of fun especially in
contrast to the heartfelt vocal performance. Great voice, with a really
nice range! Really well done.

King of Euphemism! &mdash 10/30/05 - 12:31:49 PM
Wonderful, wonderful control of language here and I'd kill for your
vocal range. Funny, funny, funny, but not corny or cutesy.

Just goes to show any subject can make great lyrics, a wonderful song.

My only suggestion is that the vocal seemed a little muddy to me.
Maybe tweaking the EQ on the vocal a little might be worth a try.

Still, absolutely great, the song itself is perfect.
