This musical piece is dedicated to all the souls leaving the planet now, including my father who made his transit on Good Friday of this year. Its taken, in part from a near-death experience I had ten years ago....Its a quiet piece in the beginning but if you stick with it there is a BIG payoff in the end...PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE, LISTEN TO THIS PIECE WITH HEADPHONES IF YOU CAN....

...that drifts from the simple to the sublime.
Nice build throughout the piece and use of software instruments--with
lots of variation.
Great use of effects at the end to expand sound and add another
'dimension' to the chorus.
Beautiful.

Dear Cat/Mystified, great to finally meet you in Cyberspce:
Thank you so much for your positive comments on Heartbeat, as you
probably figured it is a very special piece to me....Your kind words mean so
much because I'm such a fan of yours and have heard almost everything you
have done. I truly hope that some day we will be able to work together on
Sacred Circle....Peace and Light, digitalnirvana9/Norman [ Reply to This ]
Evocative tone poem &mdash 10/31/05 - 07:07:23 AM
Interesting mix of poetic randomness and New Age pacing and
progression. I especially liked your use of audio storytelling. The
transition that occurs after the siren is really wonderful; that less formless
section was my favorite. Evocative yet, from purely a musical point of
view (setting aside the storytelling aspect), for me, the almost Motown
heartbeat bassline could have been better integrated and the ending
growling bass vocals seemed harsher than my opened veins wanted to
experience, if that makes sense. Very nice concept piece. [ Reply to This ]

Hi Tobin:
Thank you for you comments on Heartbeat Away. I'm glad you got the part on
the siren and after, some people hear that and go "huh?". Anyway, I tried to
balance the powerful male voices with the softer choir female voices at the end.
I added this part because when I did the orginal I did not have the choir voices. I
guess "balance" means different things for different people....I will endeavor to
consider the more sensitive people like yourself in my future pieces...thanks for
your valuable input....Digitalnirvana9

I think Tobin put it well. This does tell a story through its building and
changing, capturing something that I can only imagine was your near-
death experience. It felt powerful. I like the horns; something slightly
dissonant about them that made it feel like we were crossing part-way
into another world. [ Reply to This ]

characher in very powerful ways....and the beat goes on!

Truly involving and expressive piece of music. In contrast to most new age music I have listened to, you are expressing a genuine and sincere feeling or experience through music, and although from a musical I could focus on minor imperfections of the instruments or the arrangement, I really think that the consciousness and genuine emotion you are expressing here is beyond the means you are using to to that. Powerful, soulful and beautiful! [ Reply to This ]

A heartbeat away..but an infinite world apart &mdash 03/26/06 - 02:19:43 AM
I came across this piece by accident..around 3 AM, while I was
struggling to fall asleep. I wrote a song recently about some of my
loved ones, young and old, passing away last year, and somehow this
song brought back some of the painful memories I had to deal with...
But as I floated through this musical journey, my troubled mind found
solace with the angelic and heavenly sounds that somehow made it
easier for me to accept that they have indeed passed on to a happier,
more wondrous place... a place more blissful and welcoming than our
material world. The later part of the song almost brought me to tears
as it made me realize that they were vanishing, vanishing....then gone.
Your music made it a very peaceful, joyful goodbye. The title was very
fitting and well-thought. Thanks... (On a normal day, I really am not
this sentimental.)

Hi Leon:
Its rather fitting that you should comment on this song at this time as
yesterday was the one year anniversary of my Father's passing. This song was a
form of therapy for me and I'm glad that you were able to identify with it...I wish
more people who were going through the grieving process could listen to it as
there is usually an acceptance, and moving on, that comes for most
people...Thank you for sharing you feelings about this...Yours is may favorite
comment, because it was so heart felt...I have listened to some of your music
and you are truly a natural talent so to get a good score from a person such as
yourself is truly an honor....Peace and Light to you, Norman [ Reply to This ]
A wonderful tribute &mdash 04/01/06 - 01:29:10 PM
I am likewise moved and transported by this lovely piece, one with great
meaning to we who have lost fathers (and others). As you have just
experienced the anniversary of your father's passing I hope this piece you
wrote in his honor gives you comfort, and reminds you that all is well with
those who return to the Source.
Your skill in composing this is quite evident, as is the fact that your heart
is in this piece. Thank you for this lovely work. [ Reply to This ]

Hi Futzpucker:
Thank you so much for the kind words and for listening to this piece...I'm
currently reading the latest Edgar Cayce book and he refers to his inner voice as
"the Source" too. I think "reality" is much deeper than most people realize and I
hoped to capture a little of that in this music...Peace and Light to you, Norman [ Reply to This ]

Reaching Out &mdash 04/12/06 - 10:34:24 PM
Kinda reflective to spiritual to the big transition and fade. OK, that flows. There was a kind of beepy thing in the ascension that grated a bit but you didn't use it for very long so that was pretty minor. I think you've said it pretty well. It's one of the really beautiful things about music is that it's credible to reach out this way to someone and to have the hope of some kind of contact whereas anything else simply creates an artifact. Profound and heartfelt &mdash 04/28/06 - 07:58:23 PM
A fanfare for a dear soul, ushering him to a place of eternal repose. It is not ours to fully understand what lies beyond mortality.
That certainly was a big payoff. The passage of light, sound and vibration.
Thank you. [ Reply to This ]

Very subtle, intimate composition, like a cathederal adrift in space. The finale conjers up a gate opening into another dimension. I am surprised you have no recent posts. Whats going on? [ Reply to This ]

This is amazing. Excellent choices in instruments. Spacious, ethereal.
The siren takes it to a phonetic dialoge. Very interesting. I do
appreciate the cinematic aspect to this piece. All the souls that leave.
Beautiful, contemplative piece. Thank you for giving us this music.

Thank you for your kind words Kelli...In my own personal near death experience
the siren repesents the passing of the worries of our world and the redirection
of the soul's energy to a new dimension of consciousness opening before our
spirit. I'm glad you picked up on it's cinematic qualities, for as a filmmaker I
hope eventually to put imagery to this piece....From your comments I can tell
that you really tuned into the spirit of this piece and I thank you for taking the
time to focus in that way...Peace and Light to you, Norman [ Reply to This ]
