Description:
This song started out a couple weeks ago as a seed from a bass line I came up with. The seed quickly grew into a big song which I spent a lot of time trimming back until I had this version. The title came about while talking with Johnny Katchoolik. I had given him a preview of the song and as he was listening he said this song reminded him of Oregon. A few days before this Johnny had posted a picture in the tattoo forum, on Macjams, of his tattooed arm lying on an open page in my book Traces. I pointed out the fact, the photograph in my book he happened to be looking at when he took his picture was taken in Oregon. So we both said that had to be the title of the song. I want to thank perceptualvortex, katchoolik, and cjhoose for their input and some extra ears when mine gave up on me. So this is Oregon and I hope you enjoy it.-JAC

This one digs deep into Rockville for that vein of gold. Striking it rich
here with incisive guitar licks. Great cut! Way to go, Chak!

yes, it does remind me of Oregon for some reason,
that is a great stroy how the title of the song came up.
Nice playing and sound here, just like a wonderful
Oregon landscape. Nicely done John, now, get ready
for some Power Trio songs.\

Cheers

Johnny thanks for all your input, on this one, it was a huge help. And the title
couldn't be anything else but "Oregon". And the power trio is the next stop in
this landscape.-JAC

Thank you Mikki for the compliments. When my songs begin to evoke the
same things as my photogrphs, that means a lot to me to hear you say that.
I'm happy you liked the song.-JAC

Here we go again...it's *real* rock 'n roll, which I have no right to
critique (classical/new age-hippie chick that I am!) but I will say that is
some mighty fine playing, and one heckuva beat!

Groovin'! :)

Ah, solo rock guitar. Very satisfying. I like those small, lightning-fast
licks at the beginning, and the long-tail fadeout at the end, and
everything in between. I can't wait to get home and crank this on
my monitors.

P.S. I didn't know you could underclock a G4 down to 1 Mhz, let
alone two of them. I'm amazed that you could still produce a track
like this under those constraints!

cool &mdash 11/01/05 - 06:04:55 PM
Hey there. I've listened a couple of times on my monitors now, and
I was struck by how it seemed like it was missing something on the
low end (as suggested by stevec's comments above). I was listening
on headphones before, and wasn't missing bass at the time, but on
my monitors it's noticably absent. I was surprised.

Still fundamentally a good jam, though. :-)

You've got a definate style :)

Sounds better than the preview you gave me. Really good mix, really good
playing.

(must say with that title I'm reminded of the old "Oregon Trail" computer
game and everyone dying from snake bites and cholera)

Chak- this song is very melodic and filled with soul. Nothing sterile about
this and that's is a good thing. Loved the ironic story behind the title of
the song. You capture a great sound with that axe. Beautiful, man!

Raw, and a little Blind Melon like, who also conjure up images of Oregon
or wherever all those tree huggin types are! I haven't smoked a joint in
over ten years but I swear I smelled doobieness as I heard this one. I'm
looking forward to hearing more of your music.

Good old Rock n Roll &mdash 11/01/05 - 05:11:07 PM
You sing with your guitar man... It's nice to listen to something natural,
nowadays it's all so sampled and full of synths (i'm guilty too)

Hey &mdash 11/01/05 - 08:46:08 PM
Thought I'd stop by and put in my two cents too!
Love the song, love the vibe. I like everything about the composition,
but on the production side, I'd love to hear some layering of the guitar in
the forefront...so it doesn't sound so flat. What I often do for layering is
multiply the the same tune on 2 or three other tracks, then fade in
volumes and pans. It really adds some depth.
Then again, these are just my production thoughts, as the song itself is
fantastic!

The guitar kills &mdash 11/02/05 - 09:30:30 AM
but the percussion is excellent, too. You picked exactly the right drums
for this beautifully realized piece, chak!

I dunno. It's 8:23 in Seattle, it's a grey, drizzly day, Oregon's 3 hours
away, I reckon I could be there before noon with this song on repeat all
the way.

Rocking!

guitarwork &mdash 11/02/05 - 12:19:21 PM
The guitarwork here is really nice. I especially like the softly strung
chords; the guitar sound used for the solo is a little too much in your
face for my taste, but it does fit in with the genre I guess... I'd love to
go to oregon some time...

delightfully strong &mdash 11/03/05 - 06:55:25 AM
well balanced, good strong rocking tune! Very nice and catchy. I'd like a
teeny more bass boost in the rhythm guitar, or add a bass line... but boy
can you make that guitar howl, very nice! Don't normally like fade-outs,
but this one was gradual and seemed to fit fading off in the sunset.

Yummy to my tummy &mdash 11/03/05 - 05:03:40 PM
Nice playing. Nice solid groove, but what Denny said, I would consider
backing off the solo a little, just to hear if it then starts to give more to
the tune. It is a sweet rock'n ditty though. Absolutely, this is so...

a bit of stones &mdash 11/06/05 - 05:18:55 AM
Some ways around the strings here could be done by Keith Richards (on a good day of course). Otherwise a little sevenies, Lynyrd Skynyrd feel to it.

Great job:)

I like the way this builds. &mdash 12/31/05 - 01:59:29 AM
I like the thematic quality of your tune. It builds and changes throuought with out being repetitive. Nice mixture of clean and distorted tones. I like the little call and response thing you got going on between the layered guitars, This ones a keeper.
