Description:
After submitting mostly free-tempo material, I created this laid-back groove-based song, written just to create a nice feeling. It starts with some ethnic percussion, some instumental accompanyment then begins, and acoustic guitar enters to carry the melody.

an excellent example of placing the instuments on the soundstage (use
those pan dials, folks). i'm lucky enough to be listening with multiple
speakers at the moment-everything is perfectly balanced & i can clearly
'hear' all of the instuments. beautiful
i liked the song, too ;)

Smoothality &mdash 11/01/05 - 06:54:57 AM
Fantastic track. Great balance of hip, beauty, groove, great produtction
and smoothality. One of your finest. I'd still put it under an easy
listening genre tho, something from smooth jazz to musak or new age.
This is what smooth jazz is for, great tracks that combine these exact
elements. Text book sweet. [ Reply to This ]
Smoothality &mdash 11/01/05 - 03:03:20 PM
Thanks very much, Tobin. I did change the song's genre on your
recommendation.
I made a great effort to polish this song, as opposed to some of my other
material that is more improvised in its nature, where I just go back and make
corrections and season. Sometimes I wonder if people will still connect with
music like this.
I'm glad you did. [ Reply to This ]

drive by relaxation &mdash 11/01/05 - 11:50:57 AM
This has a very enjoyable grooving beat, and a beautiful guitar
melody... and lots of breathing space for the instruments, very clean
sounding and toe-tapping jazzy music. Has almost a Peter White
sound, gotta Fave/DL for my wife then :-) Would have preferred a soft
final ending over the fade-out though. Wonderful work, sir!

Mr. Tiler, you have always been very generous to me with your comments, and
that is highly apprciated.
I am comfortable with the fact that my music does not appeal to everyone. That
it connects with a musician of your caliber and some others here goes a long
way to help in that regard.

Unbelievable &mdash 11/03/05 - 06:43:40 AM
that this is all programmed... Very well mixed, good panning and use
of depth in the stereo mix. I like the song. Maybe I'm a bit old
fashioned; but I think it would be still better with a real guitar... [ Reply to This ]
Unbelievable &mdash 11/08/05 - 11:03:14 AM
I'm pleased to hear you like the mix, Denny.
I don't think it's old fashioned at all to think a real guitar would make the song
better. I'm sure you're right. I suppose you could say that it would be better
with all the software instruments replaced by real ones.
Until that becomes a viable option, my intent is to make the best music I can
with the resources I have available to me.
I appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment, Denny. Thank you.

The New New Age &mdash 11/03/05 - 11:03:45 AM
If this is what New Age sounds like, now, Bring It On (Last check, This is
Actually Jazz, No?).
Way Better than what the "New Age" label would suggest to me (though
that may be an East Coast prejudice).
Lovely. Lyrical.

The New New Age &mdash 11/03/05 - 12:08:45 PM
You know, Coop, you're probably right. I don't hear this song as new age either,
but I have trouble calling it jazz. That seems a bit presumptuous. But it's
probably closer to jazz than new age, so I've changed its genre. I'd have called it
smooth jazz, were that category available.
Whatever the song's genre actually is, I'm glad you enjoyed listening to it. I
appreciate your considered comments, Coop, like I always do. Thank you. [ Reply to This ]
We Don't Need... &mdash 11/03/05 - 10:36:29 PM
no stinkin' labels. However you wish to categorize this piece, it remains
good, cohesive music. Great blend of sw instruments (SampleTank?),
great rhythm and melody tracks playing off one another, creating a great
mood.
Keep dealin' them aces, Futz. [ Reply to This ]
We Don't Need... &mdash 11/04/05 - 03:03:37 PM
Hey, Mr. Hollywood. It was nice to do another song with a groove to it. I used to
play a lot of electronic percussion like this, but I haven't for a while. It was a joy
to put this rhythm track together, especially after having done so much free-
tempo material.
SampleTank 2 and SonikSynth were the main sound modules for this song.
Thanks very much for your listen and your comments. Always appreciated. [ Reply to This ]

Where is Timber Cove anyway? &mdash 11/05/05 - 06:17:53 AM
After listening to this song, it makes me want to go there. Although I
suspect from the picture that timber cove is more maine-ish and less
carribean-ish, so maybe you need a new title. This is brilliant work!

Where is Timber Cove anyway? &mdash 11/06/05 - 11:17:57 PM
Hey, Paul. Timber Cove is on the breathtaking Northern California coast, about
two hours north of San Francisco, and forty minutes north of Bodega Bay, where
Alfred Hitchcock filmed "The Birds." My sister lives up there, and it's beautiful.
My daughters, my wife and I visit when we can and are transformed each time.

Yes, Mr. Thoddi, the technology is quite amazing these days. A wonderful
palette of sounds can now be accessed without the significant investment it took
in the early days of midi to do so, and the sounds are in many cases vastly
superior - orchestral sounds in particular.
Having the tools is great - I'm glad to hear you liked what I did with them in this
case. It really was enjoyable to put this track together.
Thanks very much for listening and commenting, Mr. Thoddi. [ Reply to This ]

Terrific &mdash 11/21/05 - 12:03:18 AM
Good mix, good use of instruments, great groove. Nothing anyone hasn't said. I wish one of the fine fine guitarists on this site (hey, Tiler, what are you doing right now?) would pick this up and lay their own guitar track over it. It would jump the moon then. It still rocks pretty hard in a totally soft, smooth jazz kind of way. [ Reply to This ]
Terrific &mdash 11/21/05 - 04:31:52 PM
Thank you for listening, Chris. I love creating a groove, and I'm glad you liked
this one.
I have a feeling that it's not easy for many people here to digest this kind of
smooth jazz piece, so it's great to hear that this one has enough going for it
that you were still able to enjoy it. I do appreciate your taking the time and
commenting. Thanks so much.
Real instruments - ah, yes. I think all of us fantasize about having our
material recorded by acoustic players - in this case, in addition to the
acoustic guitar, a string section, a marimba player, a percussion section, a
choir... That would be quite an experience. Maybe someday... [ Reply to This ]

Like morning coffee &mdash 01/05/06 - 11:24:44 PM
This one percolates in the ears very nicely, talk about a rousing start to the day. The syncopation, in particular, is ear candy - really silky tones and textures you've culled from the digital dreamscape. This tune has a very sweet and dynamic evolution - my one nit is that when the strings come in, and I'm smiling like a fool, feeling like an eagle about to spread wings and soar off of a cliff, the tune FADES OUT! Say it ain't so! Extend this jam, please - it seems like it's got more story to tell, more pictures to paint. Quite a surprising and joyous bit of songcraft! [ Reply to This ]

I was going to post a second comment on your "A Final Moment" masterpiece, but then I realised, that I hadn't even listened to some of your previous material. And should you ever come across this belated comment, let me just say again how much I admire your music. Did you play/program the percussion yourself? You chord structure and overall sense of musical flow is superb. I have to admit that I don't usually have the patience to listen to "jam sessions" or even jazz improvisations, where musicans show off their wonderful talents. But here all the instruments you play compliment each other so flawlessly. The guitar solos are outstanding and the ending is so beautiful, I keep hitting the repeat button to extend the experience... [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I enjoyed working on this song very much, coming up with the rhythm parts first and then playing the other instruments to them. The guitar part came last, and it was quite fun to execute it over the rest of the track - I hope that came through. The tools at our disposal are spectacular...
