Description
this is the third in the twisted toysuite.... and the last. the only thingi havn't done to these is add 'my shadow' - which should be some sol fege vox choir thing........ hopefully. this is more glitchy IDMish type stuff, but with a more uplifting end - hence 'from my shadow'

This song
and that pic don't look or sound like the awful baby in Eraserhead, but it sure reminds me of it. This is freaky good stuff.

I have to ask...
...do your pieces take forever to make, or do you have some
work-around options that certain software programs may offer? I
am slightly familiar with reason, but not with any of the others
you use. Just curious!

hey man........
thanks so much for the listens... your music is really really inspiring. the comunity i've been hangin' out in for a while is acidplanet.com....... so the directions of artists here at MJ are different..... just plain refreshing.....

some of 'em (my tracks) take a while. the more erratic they sound, the lengthier it is for me...... i do all edits and performance manually.

as far as software i use---- reason
izotope spectron - just a fancy flange/delay/smear fx vst
izotope ozone 3 - a multicompressor/eq/overall mastering
absynth - a wonderful -WONDERFUL- softsynth
wavelab -mastering program to host vsts/plugins

because i'm a stubborn ass, i never use prefab loops or anything that isn't synthesized/programmed/played from the raw/scratch........ so some things take a little while. ho hum.

thanks again

YOU DO WHAT? I can't believe you do all of that by hand! I've done a lot of
finely detailed stuff and sometimes its so frustrating. I can't imagine writing
music that specialises in that sort of thing.

Do yourself a favour and go check out either Max/MSP (http://
www.cycling74.com) or PD (http://pure-data.iem.at/). They are effectively
audio programming tools and are very powerful. Once you start getting to
know your way around these programs, almost anything is possible with
them. I've only been using Max/MSP for a few months and I'm building
instruments out of it... I've got no doubt that you'd be able to work out a way
to do all that glitchy stuff in realtime relatively easily.

This stuff is great
First of all, I've gotta ask you if IDM stands for anything, cause I've got
a feeling I might be missing out on entire genre of interesting music at
the moment.

Anyway, this is probably my favourite out of the 3. The mix is very
much to my tastes (lots more bass than the first and the higher
frequencies are more occasional).

Struggling for critisisms here but... one of the things I've kept through
the other pieces is that the foreground and background material feel
misplaced to me. Foreground and background are generally
determined by the level of reverb and volume... and on all of these
songs, the melodic material is quite wet (lots of reverb) compared to
the drum tracks (though there were some nice and noticable occasions
where the drum tracks had a lot of reverb to them) and are also softer
than the drum tracks. So even though the melodic stuff is nice to
listen to, its the drum tracks that attract all my focus.

That all being said, I can understand that a lot of that stuff (especially
the reverb side) may just be a consequence of the glitchy nature of the
music or the genre itself. If it is, then feel free to discard that
comment.

The only other thing... is that I think I wanted the song to build just a
little more towards the end or something. Maybe a stronger focus on
the melodic material... lots of doubling... making a very full sound.

Eitherway, this stuff is great... and you've convinced me to start
downloading at least this trio (I havn't actually downloaded any other
music from MacJams yet). So congratulations :P

hmmm. IDM.
well........ genre wise it's a toss up.experimental electronica with glitchy beats n melodies (?) conventional yet surreal (?) IDM actually stands for Intelligent Dance Music. i don't think anyone who catagorizes there tracks under this considers their stuff Intelligent or Dance........ it's just a slap happy genere............. almost glitch up.........

thanks so much for the thoughtful reviews..... and i'm glad it has tweaked your interest........ the popular artists that i could list for this type of music would be ----- "autechre" - "aphex twin" - " boards of canada" - " squarepusher" -

check them out if you don't already know their tracks.........

thanks man.

Ech... IDM
I love the genre but I hate the name.
"Intelligent dance music". Pffftttt. Gotta call it something I guess...

I honestly think you could get very far in the electronic music world
with the material your putting out. Some of your tracks (including this
one) are absolutely astounding. I hope you become very famous one
day.

By the way,
This distorted baby face thing you have going is wonderfully disturbing
and very Aphexian. Keep it up.
