Description:
Man, I have no idea what category to put this in. This is a song for my wife...something that's been in and out of my head for years. GarageBand finally gave me the outlet to put it together. Thanks go to Jeremy G. for the killer bass playing, picking out better drums for me, and teaching me the basics of producing a song (all done via Internet collaboration). I also want to thank those that commented on this song when it was a demo, though I'm still not going to file this under 'country' :)

Lyrics:
Broken down, alone and dishearted.
Love was never too kind to me.
That's just the way that this story started.
Thought it's how it would always be.

Just when you think that you've got it all figured
love likes to hit you from behind.
Punk rock princess puts me in her picture,
again proving that love is blind.

Welcome to my fairy tale life.
Where I pray that my sleeping beauty
will never open up her eyes.
And everything will be just fine
if I can just keep Cinderella
from getting to the ball on time.

Years go by and the pages keep turning.
To this tale add another two.
Still not sure if I'm all that deserving.
Hard sometimes to believe it's true.

Unopened doors, unanswered questions.
All I can tell you is 'ain't life strange?'
Backward to forward, something from nothing,
and you know I'd never change a thing.

Welcome to my fairy tale life.
Where I pray that my sleeping beauty
will never open up her eyes.
And everything will be just fine
if I can just keep Cinderella
from getting to the ball on time.

Because the frog, he is no prince.
But still there's something that she sees.
And if I knew what I said, then I'd say it again...
so she could make believe.

awesome! &mdash 11/06/05 - 02:07:19 PM
What a fantastic track! On my 3rd listen right now. Definitely not country
although it has a bit of that kinda vibe. Excellent songwriting, vocals are
well done & the overall production is stellar. Downloaded this one & will
be playing over & over.. thanks for sharing!

So... &mdash 11/06/05 - 08:00:24 PM
Does this mean I have to delete the old version (which was my first MJ
download and still one of my favorite songs...hell, I know all the words.

Maybe I've said this before, but this is a song I wish I could write. I'm one
of those guys that keeps hoping and praying his better half doesn't wake
up and realize what she's done.

This has passed the ultimate test for me... it sounds fresh everytime I
hear it... and I bet I've listened to this a hundred times!

So... &mdash 11/06/05 - 08:07:35 PM
Not sure what happened...just tried to update the file to MP3 so it would play
correctly on the site, and it treated it like a brand new submission. The
bonus is that it's been listened to by some new ears...so no complaints.
Thanks for the continued support of this song...always appreciate the kind
words.

Nice Job. I can't believe how well the Oscar Schmidt acoustic records.
Nicely mixed and put together.

DRUMS! &mdash 05/14/06 - 05:25:24 PM
please list the drum loops you used, I never seem to be able to find
decent drum loops. Jam pack 1 has waaaaaaaayyyy too many club-dance
beats.

picture perfect &mdash 09/26/06 - 08:52:11 PM
John, you have an amazing and grace laden voice. I'm sorry I haven't
been here before. just heard you w/texasfeel and that buried me. Are
you playing all the instruments here? way cool. Nice mix, it just leaps
out of my tiny imac speakers. Very tasty!

Thanks! &mdash 09/26/06 - 09:21:28 PM
Thanks for the comment here and on the collab with TEXASFEEL. I played
acoustic, midi piano, and harmonica on this one and my good friend played bass
and programmed the drums. This one was really a lesson in mixing for me, but
I've learned a lot since then. Just wait until you hear the newest tune we're
working on...adding TEXASFEEL to the mix has expanded our sound...good stuff.

Very cool &mdash 02/26/08 - 08:07:18 PM
Great singing - lovely expression in your vocal - and nice lyrics. The arrangement is terrific (I especially like the way you up the tempo after the first few bars and then drop back down - nice...) and it's got a great sound. The bass does sound great - your buddy did a great job! - and the drums have a good sound and sit nicely in the mix. Very cool. Glad aclarke's posting in the chat window sent me here! Nicely done. Peace.
