If the Velvets had used kazoo... instead of feedback on White Light White Heat it might have sounded like this...or perhaps not! Of course, although this sounds like a drunken shambolic improv we all know that this was fully orchestrated with the precision of Leonard Bernstein. Nice one!! Kazoo-u-like! I am the Walrus… koo koo kazoo I'll admit it… I have some distaste for the kazoo after years of living next to where a marching band practiced & I got two hours of kazoos being played along to Beatles covers (I Am The Walrus not being one of them, I hasten to add) every flippin' week. You've never heard 'A Hard Day's Night' ruined until you've heard the Mickleover SuperTroopers play it badly over & over & over & over again, with kazoos definitely to the fore. But enough of my troubled childhood… knowing the spirit & atmosphere within which this was made, yeah I actually kinda like it. And of course the Velvet Underground did use kazoos… but John Cale had the good sense to take them out of the mix when no-one was looking!
