Keywords:
lullaby (46)Christmas (150)carol (21)
Description:
This is a traditional Spanish carol--a 'nana,' or lullaby--to the Christchild.

The change from minor to a major key is a common device in Spanish and/or Cuban folksongs, with the phrase "a la nanita nana" a soothing refrain similar to "lullaby, lullaby" in English.

Lyrics:
A la Nanita Nana -- Traditional Spanish Carol

A la nanita nana, nanita ea, nanita ea,
Mi Jesús tiene sueño, bendito sea, bendito sea.
(repeat)
Fuentecilla que corres clara y sonora,
Ruiseñor q'en la selva cantando lloras,
Callad mientras la cuna se balancea.

A la nanita nana, nanita ea, nanita ea,
My Jesus is sleeping, come and behold Him, come and behold Him.
(repeat)
Little brook everflowing, rushing and ringing,
Nightingale in the forest, calling and singing,
Hush now, while the cradle softly sways.

As always Mysti, your voice shines out with clarity and beauty,, Tom, your
voice and harmonies compliment Mystis.
Lovely lovely lovely

Thanks, Slimmie, for that.
One thing we wanted to do with this CD was have a wide range of styles and
some different treatments. This one is definitely simpler and more
traditional--two voices and piano--and a contrast to the others that have
more orchestration or more complex arrangements.

Beautiful &mdash 11/08/05 - 04:33:26 PM
Songs like this prove that songs don't have to be complex and swarming
with lots of different tracks to sound gorgeous.
Very soft and sweet.
Beautiful!

Thanks, Einarus.
It was nice to do something simple, and rely (mostly) on the voices to color
and carry the piece along. It's nice that you appreciate it for its simplicity--
thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!

This is going to be a great CD. &mdash 11/08/05 - 11:47:03 PM
Perfect for a calm candlelit Xmas dinner... without screaming kids!
Very delicate tune here. I love the fact that you chose to sing in
Spanish.. and Tom, your voice is a great compliment to Mysti
(oh...Slimmie said that...doh!).

This is going to be a great CD. &mdash 11/10/05 - 05:46:25 PM
Thanks for the kind words, Eric. Project co-founder and CEO (atwood1956)
especially appreciates the compliment. He wondered if anyone would
recognize the bravery and daring required to sing on the same track with
Mysti? You have hinted at that in your comments, and for that, it is feeling
gratitude (as Tadashi might say).

In the Project library we have whispered among ourselves about moments like
this, obtuso. Debated. How would we respond to a brief comment, or a
comment with a title so tiny as a period? Would we respond at all? It provided
some lively discussions and such excitement that some members had trouble
falling asleep after those late night sessions.

But in our mission statement, it is clear: 'no comment is too small to warrant
a reply,' not even one titled ".". (And especially one whose message is so
direct and pleasing.) Thanks, obtuso!

Thanks White Hawks. The Project is hoping for a successful CD. That success
will be measured in the joy it brings not only to those of us who are creating
it, but also to those who listen, including you, Jem. Thanks again!

Pretty tune… &mdash 11/10/05 - 04:51:16 PM
… you Noel Project dude & dudette! Should make for a nice
counterpoint on the CD. Now all you need to make the CD
complete is a version of 'All I want for Christmas are my two front
teeth', perhaps done in a death metal style but with Mysti's fine
vocals shining through… shall I shut-up now?

And shouldn't that be complement not compliment. Saying that
Tom's vocals complement Mysti's is a compliment, right? I'm not
homophonic, before you ask (that was a pun, get it?)… okay now
I'll shut up!

Pretty tune… &mdash 11/10/05 - 06:11:43 PM
EG, you say 'complement,' Stun Nutz says 'compliment.' I say astounded, you
say gobsmacked. Words, words, words. Can't we all get along? Especially in
this, the most joyous time of the year? Or in a couple of months.

Obviously, your 'almost-an-insider' perspective (through Rebsie)has allowed
you to hone in on the key strategy of this CD. Bob, weave, jab, punch,
counterpunch. We do hope this piece, simple and warbly, will be a
counterpoint to other pieces that are more complex and warbly.

And we appreciate you stopping by to gaze in and comment, Epi, regardless
of your orientation. The Project welcomes all!

Warbly schmarbly! &mdash 11/11/05 - 11:35:56 AM
There's no warbling on these tracks....wait.....
Tom...are you adding birdsong to these?!
(Pssst! Redwing is that *other* CD...!)

You're wild &mdash 11/11/05 - 01:05:19 PM
Its a calm and nice song yes, but you people are just wild how fast you're
getting better and better as musicians! You're approaching pro level now,
without (I believe) going to music schools but just by producing for
macjams. Very very good and warm and comforting song. And so well
performed!

I am proud of being your (net) friends!

Johannes, the Project appreciates you taking time out from your passivity re:
MacJams to listen to and comment on this song. We also look forward to your
musical contributions in the coming weeks. Thanks again!

Can't wait &mdash 11/12/05 - 02:25:53 PM
As I was listening to this, all I could think about was how much
pleasure it is going to give my mother when I give it to her, which I
suppose, is the point of you guys doing this, spreading your love of
God and bringing joy to the world. I'm going to give it to her as an
early Christmas present and donate $10 to charity in the Noel Project's
name.

Thanks you guys.

Your comment made some of us stop and ask ourselves, why ARE we doing
this? Always good to review. Putting together 12-15 songs in a couple of
months has not always been easy, but it has been fun. And we have
concluded amongst ourselves that you giving Mother Ledebutant our CD is
one of the best reasons we know of to have done this. She gets an
autographed copy.

Just wanted to add my thanks to your comment, Ledeb. That is a lovely gesture,
and sharing a bit of joy through music is really what this has all been about.
Glad it seems to be working :)

(And I'll get Tom to forge my name on that 'autographed' copy!')

Don't be silly, Cat. Just meet me in the Project dining room before we run
through our vocalises and sign it there. Unless we need to invest in an
"autopen" for you?

Whatever will they think of next? ;-)

Do we have enough money in the Project budget to get an 'autopen?'

...And I do hope that you're working on those vocalises, Tom.
I don't think there *is* such a thing as 'autovocalises' (even if there are autopens) yet!

Congratulations on reaching 20.80 points, Lilbit21. You may now post a song
on MJ. We here at the Project are proud that you have chosen one of our
songs as a vehicle, so to speak. We have been in your shoes, forced to
scrounge for points, begging on streetcorners, selling plasma, etc. Thanks for
the kind words!

Hey, Mcboy. Har ya? Had we known you would be stopping by on a Saturday
we would have brought the landscapers in on their day off to spruce up. A
little embarrassed...where did we put the Roundup®?

Thanks for listening. Good to see you. Next time, call first?

Prayer from the west &mdash 11/14/05 - 03:02:56 AM
The continental west.
The dry earth.
Sunflower and pinwheel.
The singing voice reached because of the wind from the west.
Don Quixote will be healed with this song.

Blimey. &mdash 11/15/05 - 04:19:20 PM
Wonderful, singing - both of you. The harmonies make it sound like
you're standing face to face, instead of file-sharing... which is pretty
incredible. Lovely, lovely warm singing.

I like the stark live feel of this tune. It gives it more sincerity somehow.
The lyrics are lovely in any language.
More sweet work from you two.
