Description:
I wrote this song during a very difficult time in my life. I'd often dream about what it would be like to feel peace again. A blue elephant became the symbol of that. I recorded this on april 29th 2005, my 19th birthday.

Production is always my biggest issue. Like you, piano is my primary tool.

This is just a beautiful, moving song. Excellent piano playing and
singing. You have an exceptional voice. Wonderful emotional complexity
in the piano melody as it changes and builds and shifts and even becomes
a little unhinged. Such simple imagery in the lyrics that conveys a lot of
depth and understanding. At 19 you are embarking on a new world with
plenty of emotional changes yet to face. Keep using your music as an

esoteric lyrics sung with precise emotions, with intriguing dreamlike
results. A wonderful open-ended meaning yet details and specific
emotional reactions evoked, with child-like innocence lost and heartache
from an uncommon sophistication. So nice. Poetry in song, as your

I apologize, in advance if you've managed to move on from that bleak,
lonely place that is evident in your work. But if you haven't...
Reading your song notes and lyrics --- all fairly personal --- tells me
you've struggled through your adolescence and teen years. Welcome to
the club. None of us escapes those years unscathed.
Listening to your music --- also fairly personal --- tells me that a
transformation awaits you... if you make it happen. Whatever sense of
isolation and/or alienation you may feel is subjective.
I can relate. In my teens, I largely felt like the proverbial "square peg" in
a world of nice, neat, round holes. That all changed when I went to
college, joined the college newspaper and discovered a whole new
world of delightful eccentrics --- each very "different" in their own
way. Remarkably, that motley group won collegiate journalism's
highest awards and produced some very successful people.
More importantly, we all grew to understand that our "differences" were
a good thing --- just waiting to make their own "holes" in the world.
At 19, there's a whole world of opportunity awaiting you. You have raw
talent: A terrific vocal range and an edgy approach to the keyboard, as
well as an emotional wellspring for your lyrics.
But it is up to you to expand your personal horizons and your personal
universe. Mingle with other creative people --- not just here --- but at
college. Take a chance, keep taking chances to meet other people,
until you eliminate all the dross and find the human gold that makes
this life worthwhile.

I found the song to be a little slow and a tad self indulgent. But aren't
most artists that way. And with a voice like that who could blame you. It
seems to be piped in from heaven. Second to none. Gorgeous. Interesting

you've really done a great job here. i enjoyed this song quite a bit.
some people don't realize how hard it is to mic a piano and make it
sounds good. you mic'd it quite well and mamaged to make it sound
very open and like a person is standing in the middle of a huge room
where you are playing the song. and the way you mixed your voice fits
right along with it. it all makes for a very open sound.
the lyrics must be very meaningful to you which is refreshing. music is
a really great way to express emotions and you have really shown that
with the piece.
your vocal quality is very good. it isn't pressed too hard. i would only
suggest not singing too "breathy". it's a quality that our culture seems
obsessed with but i think you could still have a great tone without the
breathy noise. but still you have a gerat voice.
i really enjoyed this piece. please let me know how you got such a
good piano sound. i've tried lots of things and i would love to know
how you got such a good sound.

i literally stopped everything i was doing at some point after i pressed the play button. i felt incredibly relaxed and thought of what would have brought on such a tune of incredible sadness and a hint of relief. i kind of imagined an ending to a movie where the song rolls as a somebody looks on, gathering his thoughts and moving on. the credits slowly fade in and it ends. well, to keep it simple, i enjoyed it and im suprised that i wasnt listening to that song from a CD complete with sleaves and a label.
