Description:
You know the routine. I write a song that sucks like a duck, jim turns it into swan. It's how we roll.
Here's our newest--
Please visit Jim and hear his new song River of Doubt...
http://www.macjams.com/artist/Jim+Bouchard
Lyrics:
Some things cannot be held
some thing so illusive
Holding on too tight
careful not to lose it
You're like the tide
coming and going
you're like the tide
you're up or you're down
in or out
ebb or flowing
I can't keep up
I can't hold on.
Some things are always off
far in the distance
Some things are always lost
some things aren't where you
left them
You're like the tide
coming and going
you're like the tide
you're up or you're down
in or out
ebb or flowing
I can't keep up
I can't hold on.
Like holding on to water
like holding on to air
like holding on to rainbows
something that's not there.
Some things cannot be held
some thing so illusive
Holding on too tight
careful not to lose it
You're like the tide
coming and going
you're like the tide
up or you're down
in or out
ebb or flowing
I can't keep up
I can't hold on.

She posts...and I fill in the details... &mdash 11/18/05 - 01:24:54 PM
my Hardware: peavey Bass, Guild acoustic, Gibson Les Paul Jr., DD-20 delay, Peavey Delta Blues amp, Shure SM-57 mic, Rode NT1000 mic, ART Tube PAC preamp, US-122, eMac
Software: GB2, Jam Pack 4, Sonic Boombox, Drums on Demand, a lot of e-mailing and yousendit.com
This originally was sung to piano loops (and it didn't suck by any means), and since we have been on a little bit of a roll, I figured I could probably improve on it, so I played acoustic and then the whole thing ballooned out from there. It was a little bit of a challenge to mix, because along the line I sang my own lead vocal for this and I had a hard time letting go of that. I love this song; sort of a perfect "two ships passing in the night" song that perfectly sums up how relationships can get sometimes. [ Reply to This ]
Nice sound &mdash 11/18/05 - 07:32:21 PM

Perfect! Subtlety and taste abound. Gorgeous female vox, great chord
changes, especially in the bridge. Very, very nice. [ Reply to This ]
Gets Better &mdash 11/18/05 - 08:10:51 PM
Has a few rough spots, some places can't make out the words, but have to
admit I am listening on a Powerbook right now.
I love duets, so am probably biased.
This song is great. The ocean sounds might be a bit loud, but again,
Powerbook. I just know that when I hear a song that I could have
imagined myself making, if I knew what I was doing, actually sang, and
had time to do, I go, "Wow!" This was well done.
Thanks guys. Was worth listening to. [ Reply to This ]
beautiful &mdash 11/18/05 - 09:43:02 PM
i like the vocals, and it has a spacious feel. it makes you feel a bit detatched from the world. the percussion fits in perfectly with out over riding the song, but adding a beat to it. nice. [ Reply to This ]
I enjoyed it so much... &mdash 11/18/05 - 09:46:24 PM
lovely &mdash 11/18/05 - 09:48:26 PM
This sounds great. I love your voice. Very expressive delivery. Jim's
sound is definitely coloring this nicely. So well done. Dreamy and warm.
You two sound great together. The lyrics and the music work so perfectly
together. [ Reply to This ]
Outstanding &mdash 11/18/05 - 09:56:38 PM
Great voice! Great song! Very tender and melodic. The vocals and
guitar are a wonderful pairing. The percussion is very tastefully
understated and accentuated. This is really an excellent expression of
the lyrics and an inspiring example of songwriting! [ Reply to This ]
what i keep learning &mdash 11/19/05 - 11:14:11 AM
It seems like I keep saying the same things, so I'm trying for a change up.
This place has helped me learn a few things: JUST DO IT. Don't JUDGE.
DON'T CENSOR. Just write it down, sing it out to the best of your ability. So
what if it's not perfect. Macjams helped me discover that.
I guess I could have paid more attention to karen carpenter when she sang,
"don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing, sing a
song." What a lesson.
This song, like the andrea yates song, wrote itself. Quick, simple. I know
people rage on using loops but, for me, I can find a lot of inspiration in those
loops if I look. Detractors should maybe think of them as a songwriting
exercise. Where you start doesn't have to be where you finish.
Thank you all for listening, most of all for taking the time to write your
comments. It means a lot to me. love, kelli [ Reply to This ]

So good! &mdash 11/22/05 - 03:46:39 PM
In a world ruled by electronic music, it's so nice to hear a perfect voice and an acoustic guitar. Well done! [ Reply to This ]
Wonderful &mdash 12/03/05 - 12:24:50 PM
I like the way this flows. It puts me in a time long ago (the 1960s). Not
sure if it is the lyrics, the vocals, or the production? I love them all. I
especially like the way "Some things are always off" is sung. And I
enjoyed hearing Jim's harmonies toward the end. You are right, Kelli,
you can't go wrong with Bouchard, but I doubt this song ever sucked?
