Uninspired vote &mdash 11/19/05 - 04:10:23 PM
Okay, so you find this track:

8 - Very good, CD ready, fresh
8 - Normal, professional
8 - Excellent/artistic
8 - Normal/professional

I appreciate people voting, at least that means a couple of clicks, even
if it is done with little thinking in this case. You could as well have
made it a straight 5, 4 or 9. If you don't care about each category, I
don't really care about your vote.

When I am posting a song here it is not for having it rated by numbers.
That system doesn't work well anyways. The real benefit for the artist
is to get feedback from fellow musicians and learn from them.

Sorry man &mdash 11/20/05 - 03:25:15 AM
Those vote numbers came from me, but I've got to listen to a track a few
times before I come up with anything I may have to offer. Gimme' a few
more listens and I'll have comment info for ya.

Sorry man &mdash 11/20/05 - 03:47:28 AM
Now I'm sorry I made the comment. I was first thinking to not make a
comment at all, but it's not the first time this voting system is frustrating me.
Despite the efforts of the site admins, I don't see improvements. Looking at
the list of high votes I see some songs strangely overrated, even if you look at
them with the most objective open mind regarding taste or heritage.

My comment was not against you, and I still appreciate some sort of reaction
at all. After all I also can't complain about the high rating.

Sorry for sounding harsh. Actually, since I come here and post tracks
regardless of my doubts if it is for anything good, I keep coming here, so I
guess I just don't always like the learnings I make.

Not the best forum for electronica &mdash 11/20/05 - 10:24:46 AM
Through the past experiences here, and looking at the majority of
songs being provided, I came to the conclusion this is the wrong forum
to post electronic tracks. There are a few people here who appreciate
this type of innovative music, but most seem to be looking for "another
latin tune" or "another blues piece". And I am sorry, but I'm frankly just
done with traditional rock. It's not going anywhere. The most
innovative rock bands today are Radiohead and perhaps NIN.

So I guess I'm saying good bye to Macjams. It has helped me a great
deal in terms of learning about music. No offense, but I think I have
outgrown it. In a couple of months I'll backup my tracks and then
delete my account.

It was nice being with you all, especially in the early days, all the nice
friends I found here -- your encouragement and critical exchange of
thought was much appreciated!

Another tour de force &mdash 11/20/05 - 09:48:38 PM
Core, I hope you don't go. You'll only be denying MJ a source of really
good electro/techo. Its a genre that is easy to dabble in but hard to do
well and little appreciated by traditional musicians. I've always enjoyed
your work and look for your posts.

As for this song, its a great mix of analog and digital sound. There are
some real retro components blended with modern synths and some
fairly realistic drum samples. Sort of "feet in the past but head in the
future."

The rhythm is complex and incredibly well thought-out. If I were a
percussionist I could expand, but my vocabulary falls a bit short here.
This seems like a faithful translation of a physical drum performance
into a wholly digital world. Lots of details and I like the way you
interspersed the various sounds among the rhythm, incorporating the
melody rather than laying it on top.

The energy is fun and groovy. Like my old Atari and Nintendo game
systems got together for some amphetamines and a rave. Tight
production!

Thanks chikoppi. Some of the nicest compliments I got for my electronic stuff
so far! You know your ways in music tradition but you appreciate its flow of
innovation and evolution. Your words are cheering me up and perhaps I'll stay
on Macjams... It's just that it doesn't really help me anymore in terms of
learning. But I guess as long it makes your feet tap, I should continue sharing
my stuff with you guys.

I'm just looking to constantly expand my horizon and Macjams is not really
getting me forward. But that's okay. I'll keep it like my favorite pair of
sneakers I don't want to get rid of.

It still amazes me that you do all of this on GB. I am still waiting for you to
share some secrets with me ;)

Very upbeat track that I like to listen to in the a.m. Helps me to create an
optimistic outlook on the day.

Excellent production as always :)

Pleasing &mdash 11/23/05 - 08:58:52 PM
It is pleasing to the ear. But in my opinion is not drum n' bass.

Music genres in electronic music are floating and in steady evolutionary change.
That's why I find electronic music so inspiring. It's a big playground for
experimenting and crossing borders every time I create an electronic track.

I used mainly Drum'n Bass drum patterns to create this track. One could argue
there is more than the rythm defining a track as D'nB. But I'm not interested in
theoretic discussions. What I'm looking for is to achieve a sound I have not
heard before. Which is a repeatingly refreshing task in itself.
