Description
I tried to paint a picture with this song. Layering the paint, so to speak, over a simple drawing. In this case, the simple drawing would be a piano statement, followed by the layering of percussion instruments, violins, cellos, acoustic guitar, other embellishments, and eventually an English horn.

Very soothing - very well composed
Great style, almost reminds me of Bruce Hornsby in a way. Especially
when i heard the piano rightt off. A terrific piece here, truly one of the
very best comtemporary-pop-easy-listening instrumentals I;ve heard
others do at MJ. You have a very nice musical maturity in your
compositions.

Great structure and comtemporary beauty!

"...musical maturity..." That's a nice thing to hear from you. Thank you.

I have great respect for Bruce Hornsby. I can't touch his piano playing. All I can
do is play what I can and hope it works in the context of the song.

I'm pleased you like this song, Bill.

Excellent
Excellent New Age chord progression, with really nice open jazz voicings,
well done easy listening soft jazz mix, great choice in layered sounds,
very cinematic palette, interesting theme and variations, but the
composition transcends labels, is truly wonderful. I really like this.

Thank you for your typically attentive listen. That you see this composition as

Wonderful
Wonderful, especially that basic theme that the piano does. Also on bass
and drums you make a good job. Isn't it difficult to make good drums on
a keyboard? Seems to me anyway (on the other hand I know nothing of
keyboard playing).

I have long been hoping you'd stop by and listen to one of my songs, Mr. Curry.
Your playing is exquisite, and I am in awe of your musicianship. I am very
pleased to hear these nice words from you.

Because of the magic in your hands, I think you would not experience great
difficulty learning to play drums and other percussion instruments on a
keyboard. With the music that flows from your fingers, I think you could create
excellent and effective rhythm tracks.

Thank you for listening and commenting. I am very grateful.

Sr. Ortiz, thank you so much for listening and leaving your thoughts. After
the first statement by the piano, this song emphasizes the groove to a great
extent. That a master of percussion enjoyed this song is very meaningful to
me.

You are correct - this song did require a great deal of work. Your noticing
that indicates the great amount of experience you have making recordings,
which is obvious in your song, Nunca Contigo (pero ahora, después de
escuchando a tu canción, todos de aquí están contigo).

And I like that it's not all pastel-sounding but you've mixed in some

Very Soothing
Thank you for the very valid graphic artist's view of the song. How great it would
be to have that perspective during the composing process, and before a final
mix of a song is done... Even without you in my studio I will try to keep that
perspective in mind in the future as I compose.

Thank you for your thoughts, Mr. Mungo, which I found quite valuable.

Everything about this piece of music is beautifully executed and you
never, ever lost the emotion, which I admire so much. It sounds as
though the music just told itself to you and you made it happen, the
composition is so flawless, relaxed and flowing.

A lovely, lovely experience, Patrick. Thank you!

Effortless
My goodness, what a wonderful experience reading your very kind, and even
poetic, words, Lisa.

The most enjoyable experience for a composer is just how you described it - it's
when you rather get out of the way and let the music come through you, rather
than from you. I'm not sure if that happened with this piece or not, or to what
extent. If it struck you as if that is what happened here, I am very well pleased.

In any case, I am most grateful that you listened, and that you took the time to
tell me what you did. I am moved by what you wrote, Lisa. Thank you so much.

Very evocative
You are a master at this - thoughtful music, with something to suggest within an aural canopy......there are some moments a quarter in that don't match the brilliance of the rest of the composition - some of the harmonies aren't lining up, it seems dissonant only because, I don't know, maybe you weren't going there - because I felt your heart from the get-go, and it seemed to get muddled, the idea, the beauty, the concept, somewhere about mid-way, but then the atmosphere picks up, percussively and then it really rises to the fore. All in all, a wonderful piece, orchestrations are incredible, the mood is unmistakable....the middle section, a little work needed - everything else - sweet, sweet, oh, those voices are indeed a nice touch. Yeah! Ya! Yay! Okay, I'll calm down now......well done..

Very evocative
Thank you, Bing, for the very nice comments.

Interestingly enough, the song began from the middle section. I kept it for
over a year without knowing what to do with it; I did know that I liked it
enough that I was not going to give up on it. Finally I came up with the piano
line that comprises the first and third sections, and orchestrated those
sections to provide variations on the theme. It's interesting that the original
section struck you as dissonant.

I do appreciate your giving me your perspective.

It is a different view, after all...

What to say about this
This is a wonderful piece of music here. A very solid composition.

I don't know what to say to an accomplished musician w/o coming off
as sounding kind of silly; trying to explain what I liked about all of the
intricacies that went into producing a tune like this. I almost get the
feeling that you are like another Mcboy, Partick. As in, you are likely a
well known, *famous* and that you are an established artist. And, that
we are kinda like the 'cat's mouse toy'. This is what I get from listening
to your music.

As a person, or from your presence here, I get more of the same...
This is not meant to be a dig unless of course, it is true, otherwise, it's

What to say about this
Dion,

I'm very glad to hear that this piece inspires you. That is a high compliment.

As for who I really am, I'm just a music director of a church who has written a lot
of music for corporate productions and other things over the years. I continue to
write for such projects. MacJams is an outlet for music I write for my own
enjoyment, rather than for clients.

What on earth
took me so long to find this? I really enjoyed listening to this song--it's so natural and smooth. I used to listen to some new age albums a lot (I'm thinking of Philip Aaberg's "Shape of the Land" soundtrack, for one), and this takes me back to that time (late 80's) and place... though you're using a richer array of instruments. I'm experimenting a lot with Garageband's symphonic instruments, trying to make music out of them--this is a great example of the (probably, for me) unattainable standard of excellence that I'm aiming towards. Great work Patrick!

What on earth
Thank you so much, David. I spent quite a bit of time on the percussion
instruments on this song, so to hear this from a guy who has such command of
rhythm tracks is quite a treat.

This piece is very lightly orchestrated - besides the piano and guitar, only
strings and English horn. I'd venture to say that this level of orchestration is
quite attainable by you. I'll be interested in tracking your progress in that
regard.

I'm very grateful you listened to a track of mine and commented, David.

Paints a picture
Maybe it's because the picture reminds me of a beach in Ireland near where they filmed, "Far and Away," or maybe it's because your song reminds me of the film, "The Indian in the Cupboard," but your song reminds me of tranquility. Back for another listen
Just wanted to let you know that I came back for another couple of listens,
and I still love it. If anything, I'm likeing it more. The A section is very
repetitive, of course, yet you manage to keep it interesting by varying the
arrangement, and throwing in little variations. I really like the way you
weave an English Horn (or oboe?) melody over this chord progression
towards the end. I also really enjoyed the B section; less structured, less
predictable, but for me, highly original and a joy to hear.

Keep 'em coming!

Back for another listen
Professor Ross, I am so very grateful to read that this song was pleasing to you.
To get the attention of an a skilled and talented academician, and one with soul
and feeling complementing his training, knowledge and experience... it's
extraordinary. What you've written means a great deal to me.

Thank you, Clark.

Moving
A very moving tune that's extremely satisfying emotionally.--and
impeccably produced, too. You can bet I'll soon be checking out the
rest of your pieces here.:)

Moving
Thank you, Andy. "Moving... emotionally satisfying..." These words make me
think you gave the song a close listening, and for that I am very grateful. It is the
composer's desire to communicate with the listener, and when that happens, it's
a great feeling. Thanks very much.

great musicianship
just getting around to giving it a listen and it's a gem. The piano work is
professional. Your very humble in how you take these compliments, but
they are accurate. Top notch, top quality

Impressive,
both from a songwriting/arrangement perspective and from the sheer fullness and beauty of your musical performance. There are so many subtle layers you have woven into this piece that expand and amplify the simple melodic theme (the simple drawing). Each one a positive addition and a furthering of the musician's goal, which is a pleasurable listen.

Impressive,
Brom, I am quite moved by what you wrote here. It appears you listened most
attentively, which is a gift, and I am very grateful. To reach someone, to be
heard, that's really why we do this, I believe. Really great to read this... Thank
you so much.

Futz...you have done it again. Your inner self comes thru once again in this little piece. I could write a thousand years and never come up with this. Very original, plus, the awesome photo is where I would love to be listening to this on an IPOD. The sound of sea birds would be a great addition.

Brilliant.

Oh, wow
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I haven't really checked out your
stuff before (besides that collaboration with Ziti a couple of weeks
back).

I'm so glad I finally did check it out.

I'm now listening to this for the third time in a row - and probably a
few more plays to come. I wasn't more than a few seconds into the
second when I was swept away. I have always been a sucker for
smooth, melodic piano jazz and this is among the prettier lines I can
remember.

This is really beautiful.
An instant all time MJ favorite - no doubt.

Modern Tribal
Shades of Lyle Mays...
Are you hip to his first album? It is amazing...
I like the modern tribal aspect to this tune. I even like the keyboard guitar, and I usually abhor those..!
I like the richness of the piano part - I think it gives it a beautiful and important texture voicing the chords so low like that.
I can see a deep mind, heart and soul here...
I'm sure we're just hearing a small bit of what you can do and have done.

The beats with the drums just perfect. this is the best so far i've heard it from your songs before, such a gem created here. Really great picture and thanks from my heart for the sharing !

I can
hear lyrics to this composition because it is so very strongly telling a story about a journey of some kind. I'd say I hear a resolute and undying dedication to completing a difficult task. I wonder what Ingo Michell would write to this? Thanks.
