Keywords:
God (189)grace (17)love (964)
Description:
A musical tribute to God for saving my soul. It is a condensed story of God coming to me to offer forgiveness and salvation.

I had trouble with the vocal track on this and other songs I've written. It sounds muffled. I don't know if it's my voice, or the MobilePre USB pre-amp, the Shure mic, or the effects set in GB2. I've tried all of the effects (including no effect), but "Live Performance" seemed to work best, although it still seems muffled. I've also experimented with holding the mic closer and farther away. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lyrics:
When I was a young man, arrogant and proud,
My heart was cruel and cold, I wanted to beat the crowd.
I never once thought of you, I never even tried,
But you saw the hole in my soul, and offered your hand and cried.

I am a God of wonder,
I am a God of grace.
My love is neverending,
You should bow before My face.

I didn’t hear you then, my ears were for myself,
All I cared about was taking this world’s wealth.
I didn’t know it then, but you were always there,
Ready to lift me up and tell me that you care.

I blundered through my life and sank in the abyss,
You reached to me once more, so strong I couldn’t miss.
I finally heard your voice and accepted your Grace,
Tears of repentance streaming down my face.

(Chorus)

Oh God, my God, Your wonder is divine,
Oh God, my God, Your comfort is sublime.
When thoughts turn to You, my cares all disappear,
And I bask in Your love, that endures beyond the years.

(Chorus)

Chorus
You are a God of wonder,
You are a God of grace.
Your love is neverending,
And I bow before your face.

(repeat and fade)

Thank you for the nice words Hawks. I also loved the work you did with Tom
Atwood on "Seek Ye First".

God Bless.

Thanks pyro. I was assured that the Shure Sm58 mic that I use is a very good
studio mic, but there were mixed reviews about the pre-amp. I'm still not sure
what causes the muffled sound. It could be my imagination too? :-)

Good stuff &mdash 11/22/05 - 01:43:27 PM
Liked the song alot, noticed that at one point the vocals did something
weird...not sure how to describe it, but keep up the good work!

Wierd huh? :-) Well, it's either when I changed key towards the end (for
emphasis) that didn't sound good...or maybe I went flat in spots? I could have
gone flat--the voice is aging I'm afraid.

Curry, thanks so much for the wonderful comment and for being the first on my
fan list. To be completely honest, I pass your praise on to God, for without Him I
would not be able to write one word or sing one note.

Thank you again,

Rick

Linden... &mdash 12/16/05 - 07:26:28 AM
has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. I often travel
through Linden and marvel at the beauty of the earth and the colors of
the mountains. When I exit I-81 at Linden I always make sure to stop at
that country store and get a country ham and egg sandwich. They are
the best on the planet. Your music is inspirational and I personally
appreciate listening to it. I'm grateful to have a fellow Virginian
MacJammer around these parts. Thank you for sharing your music
here.

I just commented on your more recent piece and thought I'd check out
something posted earlier.
Thank you for posting this here. It's lovely to have inspirational music
with personal messages such as this!

As for your microphone issues...I use the Mobile Pre USB with a condenser
mic and it works just fine. As yours is a dynamic, make sure you aren't
using phantom power--don't need it with the Shure.
Also, make sure you are using and selecting a single channel in
GarageBand when you set up the vocal track. Good luck, and keep
singing! :)

Cat, always a pleasure to hear from you. Many thanks for commenting on this
and my classical work-in-progress. Since I recorded "God of Wonder" I've made
changes to the way I lay down vocal tracks. I incorporated my new approach in
"My Son". If you would be so kind, listen to it and let me know what you think of
the difference in the vocals between "God of Wonder" and "My Son".

God bless you,

Rick

I am new to GB and am a Christian, so I am listening to some worship
songs first This one is very nice, indeed! Your voice reminds me of Bill
Staines. (this is a compliment). :-)

in His grace,

Thank you Roxylee and welcome to MJ. I've already added you to my fan list
because you love what I love--Jesus, my children, and music.

Hope to hear from you soon. I love worship music and compositions that tell
people how wonderfully God has worked in our lives.

In His Service,

Rick
