Description:
Tom:
Johannes Alvinder (Cori Ander) arranged and performs this Swedish Christmas hymn, which is somber and even dark in its loveliness. Johannes describes "Gläns Över Sjö Och Strand" (Shine Over Sea and Shore) as the Christmas carol he likes most of all.

Mystified and I are co-producing the Noel Project as a Christmas CD to be released in early December. We are very happy to include this instrumental from one of the finest guitarists on MacJams – or anywhere in the world for that matter. Thanks Curry!
-- Tom Atwood

Guitar: Johannes Curry Cori Ander
-------------------------------------

Curry:
This Cristmas hymn is much loved in my country. I have been singing and hearing it every Christmas since school. And I still love it!

I was written by a swedish woman Emmy Köhler a little more than 100 years ago. She is known almost only for making this song.

Shine Over Sea and Shore,

You who in Eastern land,

To repeat what I said &mdash 11/21/05 - 06:16:08 PM
Such a beautiful song and so well arranged and played. I am
sincerely at a loss for words to describe how this makes me feel.
But it reminds me of the moment I realized what love felt like.
This is incredible!

A piece with a lot of emotion poured into it! This is my first exposure
to the hymn and I'm completely hooked. Absolutely gorgeous.

Like the classical feel &mdash 11/21/05 - 09:52:18 PM
Like the placment of the cords, almost a lute sound. Nice to hear!

Like the reaching higher feel of the picking. Delicately placed sound.

Beautiful &mdash 11/22/05 - 05:03:15 AM
I have never heard this hymn. It is beautifully played. Cori has an
excellent instrument, excellent technique, and a great heart!

(And the production is pretty great, too.)

Thank you John! I may say that I am delighted that you first took note of
important things (important to me), and set production second. Doesn't mean
that I think that is "the way to do it", only that it is "my way to view it"...

x-mas feelings.. &mdash 11/22/05 - 06:25:54 AM
I Remember singin this in school, it was one of my first "live
performance". I liked that song so mutch that i was starting to "wailing"
and realy got in to it. After, the teacher took me aside and sad, :you
not supose to sing the song like that! But i got the biggest applause
that day and was realy proud.

This is one (or) the best interpretation of the song i ever heard and it
brings back memories and awaken my X-feelings. Almost maked me
cry.
(big boys dont cry..snyft...)

Ooooootroligt Vackert!!

Thompa

Wow thanks a lot Thompa! That was a big thing coming from one who have
probably heard hundreds of beautiful versions of the song! And who can witness
a Lucia Day celebration withouth crying a bit from the sheer beauty of it?

Curry (its hard to write to a project!), I'm not really a Christmassy sort
of person, but this stands on its own as a beautifully played piece of
music. Kind of makes me feel gooey inside - you know, "peace to all
men" etc. Lovely piece - those Rode mics (Australian made and
designed by the way) sure do give a clean, warm sound to your guitar!
I'm hoping to get one "for Christmas"!

Why is it hard for you to write to a Project, Neil? Do you have something
against Projects?

And you are not a "Christmassy type of person?" Do you know what would
happen to the staff of the Noel Project if everyone adopted your position (not
to mention NP management!)? We'd all lose our positions. Is that what you
want for us at the holidays? Unemployment, Neil?

(Sorry for the outburst. Pressure of the season.)

Thanks for listening!

Please forgive that half... &mdash 11/23/05 - 10:41:58 AM
... of the Project management.
He's often overworked and delusional.

It'll pass...at least I hope so...

worth it, (even though I think it sounds very good already)!

Thank you Miq! (As a matter of curiosity I went to look at your page to find
that you begun as a MacJammer yesterday. Welcome by the way! But what I
wanted to say was that I felt honoured because of the five comments you've left
so far this tune was one ... choosen!)

Just beautiful! &mdash 11/27/05 - 05:44:29 AM
I'm always astounded at the warmth of tone in your guitar ... you are a
master of mic placement as well as one of the most stunning musicians
around!

This is delightful, gorgeous, melancholy and full of soul. Once again
I'm in awe of the spiritual expression you put into your music. It's a
rare gift. Amazing to hear.

I think it's wonderful that you're bringing these beautiful Swedish tunes
to a wider audience too, which they richly deserve. Keep up the good
work.
