Description:
yet another lo-fi one track.

i haven't had the motivation to muck about with striving for perfection, but had a moment to record today and haven't uploaded in a while.

so this is the result.

Lyrics:
pretty things circling round my head
pretty things i can't take to you bed
a daze i've dropped into
my gaze is locked on you
all.

i put my eyes on hold
year after year
just so my heart goes cold
when you are near
i put my eyes on hold
i put my eyes on hold

little things i see but don't ever touch
little things i've never wanted so much
put me in the hands of forever
tell me that i'll never never
fall.

i put my eyes on hold
year after year
just so my heart goes cold
when you are near
i put my eyes on hold
i put my eyes on hold

someone get a handle on me
come and get your hands on me
read me my rights
steal me some night

lovely things keep swimming around
lovely things, in you i have found
it all.

i put my eyes on hold
year after year
just so my heart goes cold
when you are near
i put my eyes on hold
i put my eyes on hold

beautiful lyrics &mdash 11/21/05 - 10:46:25 PM
They have a lot of meaning in them (or is it just that it's late and I can't
tell the difference?). And somewhere in that muffled recording is a really
good performance. :) Quite enjoyable.

thanks CJ!

i hope that it's not just that it's late... although it may have been late when i
wrote them. ;)

fix!

Raw and effective &mdash 11/22/05 - 12:45:05 AM
I feel like I am eavesdropping on a private club performance. This has a
bootleg quality but the song sounds great...almost dare I say it...Jeff
Buckley-esque in the phrasing. Maybe you should rerecord this at
some point too? Look forward to more 'songs from a couch'

Nice emotional playing and singing and playing. It made me take my ears
off hold.

I hear commitment to the song, an undervalued aspect of performing.

Good job on this.

maybe it's the theatre in me! a song's kind of like a monologue...

and passion in the performance overrides the lo-fi quality. stevel had it
right- almost sounds like a bootleg- only in this case someone snuck into
the living room with the tape player to capture it all.

this sounds terrific! &mdash 11/22/05 - 04:07:33 PM
I think you actually have a great accoustic sound. Sounds like you have quite nice guitar. Your voice is very good and have its own characteristics, im pretty sure that there very few people with a voice like yours. Its not only original, but sounds beatiful as well. I also will have to mention that this is the way a lot of music should be recorded, Live! It doesnt matter tomucg me if the sound quality isnt that good, i can still hear your music. And it sounds great. It actually reminded me a bit of "between the bars", not much, but there is something in the vibe that gave me the reference. The lyrics are great, i think i can see my self thorugh them. It is always a good quality when someone else can relate to your lyrics. There are probbly a lot more I should have said, but this piece touched me inside. It was great, Keep it up!!

thanks! i don't know what else i can say!

Intense &mdash 11/22/05 - 06:05:38 PM
I like it. Bit of a disturbing undercurrent in the lyrics. Not sure I want to
peer into this mans soul. Did you sing and play this at the same time? If
so, you might want to try splitting that up and record each part, guitar
and voice, separately. Those little mics are quite amazing. I'm told that
they're the same kind that come in high end consumer video recorders.
Overall, think this is pretty damn good.

AquilA... my soul's not *that* tortured! i'm glad i was able to convince you
otherwise for a minute, though!

yeah - the mic is surprisingly good... but picks up the hard drive writing and a
lot of hiss. i have a better mic, just thought i didn't have time to get it all set
up...

thanks!

powerful &mdash 11/23/05 - 01:28:06 AM
Good writing. Your singing has a lot of power, as well does your guitar
playing. This is good. The emotion feels sincere and really grabs hold.

I would like to hear a better recording of this. The pinhole mic recording
gets the idea across but it really mucks up the sound. Need a decent mic
on your voice and another on your guitar, close, to get a clean and full
sound, and without all the roominess. This is a song worth going hi-fi.
Doesn't have to be made any more complex, just clearer.

I was moved by this.

"i haven't had the motivation to muck about with striving for perfection, but had a moment to record today and haven't uploaded in a while."

which, in itself, is admirable... i love this but..... well, you already know what i'm going to say so... consider it said!!!

thank you for another 'darren' moment xxx

i know, i know... and i've already said too much about the bad recording... i
need to stop! i should attend bad recorders anonymous meetings!

but thanks for the love nonetheless... i'll try to do better by you next time!

can you have the bear who shall remain nameless until someone names him
install the pickup on my guitar? greenie may be able to help...

great tune &mdash 11/23/05 - 02:22:33 PM
Very pretty, intense. I really like your sound. Very coffee house. You place and sing at the same time is my guess. You r guitar and vocalss are so in synch. Awesome. NIce high notes. Your voice is great.
Pinhole mic: negative
Hidden mic somewhere: yes
I have the same computer, I never see any stinkin' pinhole. That's b.s.I think it's the only thing where Steve Jobs blew it. Bad mic name. Good catch Darren. You get 10s for that. (plus for the song)
You're really Robert Downey Jr aren't you. I'm really Bruce Dern with some drastic age-reducing cosmetic surgery. Our secret, okay 'Bob'
great song.

hey thanks alley-oop! that's the only place i've ever sang live, actually - a coffee
house. :)

steve jobs got us with his pinhole distortion field. don't feel ripped off - we just
got some extra cammo.

and yes, my name is bob.

nice facelift!

Powerful piece &mdash 11/26/05 - 01:49:14 AM
There is a lot of cojones to this recording, but I'm afraid I must concur
with my peers. I want to hear the album quality counterpart.

it took me a while to figure out what cojones meant... i was reading it in english.
co-jones. huh? lol

thanks... yeah... i'll try and put out a better version of this sooner than later.
when i get this pickup installed (i've been saying that for months), i'm going to
go back and redo a number of things!

i'll try and do ya'll proud.

just listened twice &mdash 12/06/05 - 03:40:34 PM
It's tragic that such a great performance was not witnessed by
a good mic.

Nevertheless, despite the hiss, somehow the guitar sounds really good!
The lows are surprisingly good.

Nice writing too!
