Lyrics:
What's in the corner
under the rug
first you pushed-
then you started to shove?

whatcha hidin'
up your
sleeve
I've seen some ugly things

Take a seat
pull up a chair
it's a bright light
watch the glare
time for a little q & a
let's start with your full name.

Ugly things running round in
the back of your mind
Ugly things
in a closet
skeletons
are fine
Come on baby, you're safe with me
I've seen some ugly things.

Where's the line
between bad and good?
the one you'd cross if you knew you could
don't look away I'm not through
some blood letting
might do you good.

What you do and what you say
don't seem to correspond today
it's black and white
not the shades of gray
no one's looking when
we turn away.

chorus

Watch your back
it's dog eat dog
pass the buck
it's someone else's fault
point your finger
say your prayers
toll the bell
someone else is dead.

No one lifted a finger
no one made a sound
no one heard you baby
when you hit the ground
Come over here
you're safe now
I've seen some ugly things.

Well, here's where we leave in a lot of rough edges: I play electric guitars, the Les Paul Jr. for rhythm and the Tele custom for lead through the Peavey Delta Blues amp, the Peavey bass direct, and there's Drums on Demand loops. There is a rhythm guitar part that Kelli played, and that's about it. I used some effects on her vocal on the beginning and end, and I used some AU effects on one of my gutar tracks, but mostly it's just turned up and rocked out. I channel my inner Neil Young and Kelli channels her inner Lucinda Williams...this one is the most fun yet!

cool &mdash 11/23/05 - 08:42:45 AM
Very Neil Young!! I dig how you have things panned. Sweet milky tone on your lead track. Good Job!!!!

Shakey Lives! &mdash 11/23/05 - 08:47:05 AM
Yeah- there's a definite Shakey and Crazy Horse vibe. Like how this
doesn't seem overproduced... but I love rough edges in my rock and roll.
Great delivery on the vocals, Kelli- Jim, awesome guitars. This song rocks!

A great piece of work &mdash 11/24/05 - 03:44:44 PM
What I really love about Jim's stuff beyond the great playing is the
production. Everything seems 'CD ready' whether its something smooth
and sumptuous or something grittier like this.

I'm a big fan of macgalver's songwriting too!

this ain't ugly &mdash 11/30/05 - 01:01:33 AM
I like the raw feel of the tune and Jim's playing really adds some
nice "dirt". I agree with Adam here, I like my rock'n'roll raw and
mean. Cool song, good playing, singing and lyrics.

the best part &mdash 12/02/05 - 07:39:24 AM
This one is so different for me, but I just love it. It's so fun to just "go
for it" in a particular style. It's pretty funny, and while it's probably
obvious to everyone else, it never really occured to me how much
acting is in singing. And there's a lot. What do you think? I think it
works for musicians as well, putting music together, you begin to act
on the groove.

ugly things &mdash 12/04/05 - 11:29:21 AM
love the rawness. love the americana/alt-rock sound going on here.
regarding singing vs. acting, yeah there are lot's of parrallels and
similarities. When I sing I always sort of 'get into character' cuz the
kind of singing i hear in my head is usually not obtainable by me so i
have to become someone else for a while. but your voice is perfect on
this. delivery is spot on!
