Description:
This is a tune I came up with rather spontaneously the other day about a turkey who was out for revenge.
This includes a special intro I made for the KSVY 91.3 Virtual Garage radio show. This was the 1,000th new song ever played on the program.
Lyrics:
There's a full moon on the rise
something's cooking in the autumn night
Have you heard there's a new kind of bird of prey
he goes by the name of Jive Turkey
He sees you stuffing yourselves
as he perches and he scowls on the window sill
he's making a deadly vow
to avenge all his buddies in the gravy somehow
Jive Turkey in the shadows now
Jive Turkey don't clown around
Everybody take heed Thanksgiving Day
This bird on the loose is quite insane
When he gobbles and he squawks you'd better run
there's nothing meaner than a turkey with a scatter gun
Jive Turkey
Jive Turkey
Sweat potatoes and the beans and the casserole
all the kiddies flickin' peas in the jell-o mold
Everybody's drinking wine
Everybody's feeling fine
All the wile Jive Turkey's made his way inside

Oh far out!! If this is rockabilly, I'm a rockabilly fan!!! Peter, your
voice just gets wierder and wierder (in the nicest possible way!). Words
escape me - wonderful, insane!

Thanks, Neil. Yeah, this is a kind of form of rockabilly, a sort of blend of
hillbillie-Appalachia and rock-n-roll. Moonshine and gravy.

Thanksgiving or Halloween? &mdash 11/23/05 - 09:05:04 AM
Very hilariously delicious concoction... what *did* you do to your voice?
Well performed, wonderfully mixed... reminds me a bit of Dana Lyon's
"Cows with Guns". We have always avoided Jive turkey by eating duck,
or ducks, depending on how many come over on D-day. Congrats on
being #1000 at VG, great stuff(ing)!

Made me ROTFL &mdash 11/24/05 - 08:16:40 AM
The other night when I heard it live on the Garage. I LOVE the vibes! Has
some nice dark swing elements in it like Squirrel Nut Zippers too. DL'd
Fave'd - This is GREAT stuff! [ Reply to This ]
Best tune on Macjams! &mdash 11/24/05 - 11:11:21 AM
Man oh mutha f'in man this tune is friggin' perfect! The lyrics are so perfectly funny--describes T'giving at my household. I love the visions in the lyrics dude--so awesome! The melodies are huge, the key parts are just so right on the money cool. It is an awesome song and I damn near vomitted from laughter during the show! Happy Bird Day!!! [ Reply to This ]
Best tune on Macjams! &mdash 11/24/05 - 12:39:10 PM
Thanks, Drew. What I was really looking for in a reaction was some sort of nasal
projection, gravy or beverage uncontrollably shot out the nose. A near giggle-
barf is rewarding, just the same though. Happy Thanksgiving. :)

So well executed, Peter. Spot on production. I love the little
vibraphone(?) runs. Great touch. And nice 'aahs', by the way. Clever. [ Reply to This ]

your gifted vocal &mdash 11/26/05 - 04:07:09 PM
is really something to behold, nice, terrific soulful almost a cross between
dylan, 50's Elvis feel, Very cool, maybe of little Roy Orbison band feel and
the list goes on and on.
You sure could be a star on radio with the right connections, that is really
kind of tough of course for anybody of high talent to achieve, but hope
you get a good break, cause you have a terrific gift for singing, composin
and playin. [ Reply to This ]

Turkey! &mdash 12/16/05 - 08:48:23 AM
Cool Tune &mdash 12/18/05 - 01:58:57 AM
I really liked this. It had a kind of post modern neo rockabilly thang going on. The little keyboard part that sounded like vibes was a nice touch. The backround vocals remined me of the Jordonaires on the old Elvis records. Great Song. I feel a little queasy about that turkey sandwitch I had at Subway today. [ Reply to This ]
LOL &mdash 12/25/05 - 06:46:19 AM

with no effort at all! Great, loved it! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks, Bronco. Glad you finally caught it. I need to do this goofy stuff to
ground myself. Comes out in spasms.

This is crazy haunted house music like Danny Elfman, somehow I missed this around Thanksgiving - sure glad we didn't have a bird in the house! Love the deep "Riders in the Sky" backing vocals - super-cool! [ Reply to This ]
