Quirky!
This entirely reminds me of those old casio keyboards for some
reason! Something about the sound of the instruments.

What makes this quirky for me? It seems as though the instruments are
playing their own melodies against one another, specifically not
"working together." The rhythm is a bit strange, but only because the
cymbal crashes seem almost random.

For the bass, try either repeating a one-measure lick consistently
beneath a section of the song or holding just one note per measure,
for instance: 1-C, 2-F, 3-G, 4-C, repeat. This gives you a I, IV, V, I
progression in C and you can play just about anything on top of it that
doesn't have sharps or flats. Ideally, the bass plays the bottom note of
each new chord that appears.

You have the zither-like instrument in the begining, but then it
disappears entirely. That's a cool sound. Maybe you could find a
repeating section that uses it?
