A very sad theme... &mdash 12/04/05 - 03:32:23 PM
...I was watching the movie 'Titanic' the other day, or at least a part of
it, with some teenagers, and I found myself terribly moved by all of the
poor (as in--not much money) immigrants trapped in the bottom of
the ship... It really hit me that those would have been MY ancestors...
the ones coming over bravely in steerage...Not the rich ones in first
class...
There is a steadiness to this music, and a determination, with a
relentless plodding feel in the bass notes... I would bet that in a longer
composition these elements could be transformed into a similarly
structured and more joyful variation on the theme...
I also agree with what chikoppi has written.
Nice composing and arranging skills, and the recording is flawless.

it. No home, no rest, its cold, no end in sight. Very emotional. It also
has a vaguely Slavic undertone, which I'm at a loss to explain. I love the
relentless plucked cello that underlies most of the piece.
Nice choice of instrument to carry the alto theme. It has an old-time
radio sound to it, which further evokes images of that period of mass
imigration across the Atlantic. This would be outstanding in a
documentary.
