Description:
This is my first real effort in the past few months. I've been aching to start writing again. I really focused here on vocal harmony, which I rarely experiment with. Hope you enjoy.

Lyrics:
the scientist takes one deep breath and stares up at that great ceiling
where a painted picture comes to life

he's interested in the nothingness that occupies that famous space
where absence is embraced by passing eyes

down the street not far away a woman holds her stillborn baby's face
she asks god please

a question mark floats aimlessly above a tearstained dampened pillow
where the monster that is absence bears its teeth

(lots of oohing)

question marks are known to dance where an absence of an answer is
and some of my best dreams escape my mind...
on the other side of loneliness a bearded man that dont exist is called upon generate some light.
and i just sit hear in the dark; Im squinting at a science book with one eye on the page and the other on the sky.
the absence of an absent god with absolute intellegence makes the presence of a progress die.

Nice &mdash 12/03/05 - 08:25:32 PM
mysterious indeed. i think i sometimes get caught up on the science vs. religion thing, but the debate certainly provides much fodder for songwriting.
thanks for checking it out.

pretty cool &mdash 12/03/05 - 03:56:50 PM
Very interesting and original...it's quite refreshing to hear something
original that doesn't have to remind me of someone else's work in order
to be effective.

thanks for the compliment. im glad it strikes you as original, though i can
usually hear where my own songs begin to sound derivative of the music i am
listening to.

but as long as nobody else figures it out, im in the clear ;)

Very thought-provoking lyrics, some interesting ideas there. I like the
guitar work too. Good vocal performance.

Dig the vocal lines &mdash 12/03/05 - 09:43:58 PM
Good guitar sound what kind of mic are you using and is that a fretless bass?
Dig the vocal lines.
Check out my stuff and let me know what you think.

Dig the vocal lines &mdash 12/03/05 - 10:08:39 PM
thanks mr j. the mic is of the $8 variety at RadioShack, and that fretless bass
you hear is me humming into the mic. i adjusted the settings in garageband so
that all the treble is removed.

thanks for listening.

haunting &mdash 12/07/05 - 01:12:01 PM
Good job. Lyrics "paint a nice picture" of the whole Michelangello thing.
Love the change after the "oohing section" as well. That adds some relief
after the tension. The oohing reminds me a little bit of some old Toad
The Wet Sprocket stuff ... very 'verbed back. Good job.

thanks for the comments. ive never really experimented with vocal melody
before, and since i don't really play any other instruments, i figured id try to
flesh the sound out a bit.

and toad the wet sprocket. havent heard their named mentioned in about 12
years. definitely a band i have to revisit one of these days.
