Description:
I don't like the Christmas season for many reasons but part of that stems from my father's death four days before Christmas 13 years ago. My wife on the other hand loves the Christmas season, the decorating, the gift giving, midnight mass, the carols, everything. So as you can imagine, my wife tries to involve me in decorating activities and I begrudgingly do it. She turns to me and says in her deep simple way, "I wish you would like Christmas". I want to honor her holiday wishes so the first step toward "liking Christmas" was a little therapy. This song is part of that therapy.
Lyrics:
Worlds Apart
©2005 Ray Kainz
You were perfectly at peace
As you lie still and silent
People running around
Lights flash, a siren sounds
You don’t let it bother you
You just lie there, yeah you do
Solitary silence, personal peace
Without worry, pain or grief
You looked at peace
Strait in the eyes
And you said hello
I never had the chance to say good-bye
Begin anew for both of us
Worlds apart
Begin anew for both of us
So we can watch
We can watch our world come apart
There’s chaos all around
The priest arrives as your heart fails to pound
Holding your hand
I close your eyes and blow the dust into the sand
You looked at love
Straight in the eyes
And you said hello
And you left me, left me to die all alone
Beginnings are new for both of us
Worlds apart
Beginnings are new for both of us
Worlds apart
Let's watch our world fall apart

Sad story... &mdash 12/04/05 - 03:58:00 AM
...I'm sorry for your loss.
This track is excellent. Great songwriting and very well delivered.
I liked the panned break after the first chorus.
Excellent work, once again. [ Reply to This ]
I understand &mdash 12/04/05 - 09:27:46 AM
why Christmas can be and is such a difficult time. It is so tough at this
time of year to not have important family members with us. Yeah... I
know...wish I didn't.
Musically, always great. Always a download. Merry Christmas! [ Reply to This ]
Great song &mdash 12/04/05 - 12:47:28 PM
You are certainly clear with your sorrow. Your art shows it.
I wish you the best for you and your family! [ Reply to This ]
Nicely Done &mdash 12/04/05 - 01:08:55 PM
My pattern for listening to songs on MacJams:
1) Go to the song page
2) Hit play
3) THEN read the description about the song as it is playing OR go to
the lyrics and follow along.
The first line I saw, while the song started, was in your description "I
don't like the Christmas season for many reasons..." I didn't read
further because I wanted to get to the lyrics.
I got pulled into the song and I didn't think about the description part.
After listening to the song I read the description.
Excellent job.
I got the feelings and the emotions from the song BEFORE being told
that's what it was about.
Can I say Excellent job again?
This one is added to my favorites. [ Reply to This ]
Love this &mdash 12/04/05 - 02:40:35 PM
Love this song. Great, heartfelt lyrics - makes me think of a good friend
of mine and what he went through when his dad died. I've forwarded it to
him. Nice production, great sound, and, again, terrific lyrics. [ Reply to This ]

I understand.. &mdash 12/05/05 - 07:03:30 AM
my mother was killed in a car accident on December 9th ten years ago.
Hang in there and think of happy memories of your father. I think of all the funny things my mom did when she was alive, I have a great laugh and cry and go on with enjoying the fact that I was blessed to know such a wonderful person.
Great song. I like a lot of your music. Thanks for sharing [ Reply to This ]

another example of why 11i's is one of the top the crop of independent
music producers....this is amazingly good.
Stylistically, not my cup of tea, but the song itself, the vocals, the
guitar playing , production....all world class. Very wonderful. I hope
the song works for you in your healing process.
GREAT work!!

very good indeed &mdash 12/06/05 - 04:02:53 AM
This track deserves way better treatment than it has gotten considering the score compared to other songs on the rating list as for now.
Its so professionally done both in composing, arranging and performing. You show great skills at it all.
One for my box of favorites. [ Reply to This ]

Praise-worthy &mdash 12/06/05 - 11:14:47 AM
Great production here. You really captured the guitars and bass with
clarity and mixed them with finesse. I loved the balance in the tracks
throughout the piece.
Great character in the vocals. They are both intimate, feeling honest
and uncensored, and epic, with wide dynamics and range. Excellent
and often very subtle use of backing vocals. Very impressive!
The song is really well constructed with some smart chord changes,
especially in the chorus. Nice addition of the piano flare after the first
chorus. The only aspect of the song I'm not madly in love with is the
ending, which has a style not only unlike the rest of the song
(includinng a double-time feel rhythm) but that also seems counter the
sentiment of the lyrical theme. Don't get me wrong, its great musically,
but it seemed to create ambiguous statement about the conclusion of
of the lyrics.
All in all a very well-polished and praise-worthy song! [ Reply to This ]

Excellent! &mdash 12/06/05 - 04:57:53 PM
There are so manny little pieces in this that just make this such a well
performed and produced song! I especially like the piano parts and the
backup vocal parts. They just polish it all off! Your vocal delivery is so
good. Really good song. [ Reply to This ]
Soulful voice &mdash 12/06/05 - 05:59:54 PM

Congratulations on... &mdash 12/06/05 - 10:02:21 PM
your first steps to healing.
Your lyrics are straight from the heart. I came across this song at a coincedental time. Just experienced a loss this weekend myself. It doesn't seem fair. I am commenting more on your lyrics because that is all I really heard at this point. Your voice is lovely though, and your feelings came across loud and clear. I hope each and every Christmas after this better and better for you and you find peace with yourself just as your Dad did.

I Hear Ya &mdash 12/09/05 - 08:24:13 PM
My father passed away on Easter Sunday 30 years ago. Then Easter is somber to begin with as opposed to cheerfulness of Christmas. Look at it this way, if you can. Both holidays are about new beginnings.
Great tune. I agree with TIler. The melody has a Lennonesque quality, which is fitting for this particular composition. John alway did dig deep with his lyrics as you do in this song.
Thanks for being straight-forward, honest and expressing it in music.
Maybe some Pasteles and Coquito will cheer you up.:) [ Reply to This ]

Hard felt feelings very well expressed. I'm sorry your Christmas has
been tarnished this way. As far as the song, Outstanding! Your truly a
great composer and performer. And another download.

I'd buy your stuff &mdash 04/29/06 - 04:21:52 AM
I love how the line "watch our world come apart" is puntuated by the
disjointed and utterly separate guitars panned to both sides... you
really propell the image you have created even further of the separate
and finality... helpless of that time... for the 1st time I'm looking at
your equip... can't beleive you get that vox with a 58...more proof that
performance is 90% of the formula for success [ Reply to This ]
