Description:
Hi Folks,

This is a little 80s-music influenced dance track that I put together in GarageBand 2. I'm working on getting a decent microphone and recording a vocal track but it's just synth, samples and loops for now.

I'm posting it here specifically for feedback, so please let me know what you think and what I could do to make it better.

Thanks for listening!

Needs that lyric &mdash 12/07/05 - 02:04:31 AM
fun, but seriously repetitive, even for dance music

i like where its going. &mdash 12/08/05 - 01:23:35 AM
vocals will certainly help make this track stronger. also, maybe see if
you could infuse the track with some gritty analog processing. i'm sure
there's a way to to do that in garageband, maybe use the multi-band
compressor or filter or something on the master track. just something
so the production sounds a little less sterile. also, i really like the hi-
hat on the choruses, but maybe consider using a more "retro" sounding
snare. if you need some inspiration, go to the itunes music store, and
listen to clips from the band "yaz".

i think its a solid foundation for a good final project. id like to the hear
the final version when its finished.

peace
dane

Great Rhythm - Needs strong melody line. &mdash 03/13/06 - 11:39:24 AM
I won't say that this song is amateurish - it's not. The musical transitions are very strong in places. I recognize most of these as canned GarageBand loops, though, and I wonder if this song wouldn't really benefit from some non-looped melody line.

Basically it's good rhythm track (which actually buys you a little leeway when it comes to the repetitiveness also commented on here) and it needs a strong melody on top.

(See the issue is that in absence of a separate melody line, the looped synth ends up basically becoming the melody to your ear. Since it's looped so many times, it seems like it's a repetitive melody.)

You mention a vocal track - that may do the trick but if lack of a mic is holding you back, you might try playing a synth lead over the whole song. Some rich pads or chords would be a nice addition too, since the rest of the song is kind of staccato, for lack of a better word, and the contrast would be nice.

I echo Dane's sentiment above when he says that he'd love to hear the final project when it's finished.

Good luck!
