Enchanting &mdash 12/07/05 - 01:22:31 AM
Very ambient, creates a great mood. The recorder solo is soothing and
enjoyable to listen to.

I love the DADGAD tuning because of that ambient sound it creates.
I am glad you liked it here, as well as the recorder. I appreciate you
taking time to listen and comment.

Thanks,

Jack

Love it &mdash 12/07/05 - 05:32:03 AM
Very cool song... the percussion is very cool- I like the way it stands out
within the song. The guitar sounds excellent... I may have to look into the
Dean Markley as the built in pickup on my acoustic seems to have gone
on permanent vacation.

Good work here, Jack!

Love it &mdash 12/07/05 - 09:33:21 AM
Hey AC, thanks for stopping by. On the percussion I just took a
tambourine close to the mic, muting the jangles as best I could and
tapped away. Actually I recorded the guitar in stereo mode, one
line from the pick-up and the other via the SM57. Then the GB...
what is it called (?)... acoustic reflections setting or something like
that. Anyway, it made for a cool sound. Glad you thought so too.

Yes... the dark lady. Has she made a debut here yet?

Glad you like the song. I am now aiting for someone to comment,
"How good snowdragon's recorder solo is!" : ) LOL

a different Jack &mdash 12/07/05 - 01:37:23 PM
I like the vibe of this and the recorder is just wonderful.
Not too excited about the percussion, timing is a little off there.
But overall a nice tune and good to hear you are trying new
styles out.

Cheers

a different Jack &mdash 12/07/05 - 01:55:13 PM
thanks katch. Yeah the tambourine/pseudo Irish drum was a bit of an experiment.
Thumping out the percussion with thumb and fingers while trying to keep the
jangles somewhat muffled... there are some spots that get a bit off. I would love to
have this done with a proper drum. Glad you like it otherwise and thanks for
listening.

Night of Olde &mdash 12/07/05 - 04:08:08 PM
A couple flat notes on the recorder. That's all I found wrong with this
mix. It really sets a mood and hurls me back to an ancient time. Way
cool. It's quite a scene that you "Druid" for us.

Night of Olde &mdash 12/08/05 - 09:18:21 AM
Thanks, Rich. Yeah, I am still learning on this recorder. Very easy
to hit a note flat here and there. It is a fairly inexpensive Yamaha.
I may eventually upgrade to a better one. Something appealing
about times long past... those ancient times.

Buy that man a bodhran! &mdash 12/07/05 - 07:24:31 PM
Catch the boys at Bron-y-Aur, and this could have been a Led Zep
track...

Nice blending of the instruments, and nice atmospheric sound.

Nice rhythmic use of the DADGAD tuning...

Oddly enough, I'm inclined to play along to this with a very electric
guitar...

And you COULD come back to this at some point and come up with
some lyrics. Just don't make them about elves or Stonehenge or
anything obvious like that...

Downloaded gratefully as is.

Yeah... a bodrah. That's the ticket.

Oddly enough, I originally intended to write lyrics for this (nothing
with elves or Stonehenge). Now with your other idea of an
electric guitar... hmmmmm, you got me thinking. I like the Led Zep
angle. I am going to have to pull up all my Zepplin songs on iTune
and have a Z fest. If you feel inspired on that electric guitar of
yours let me know.... thanks.

No elves?????

Back to the drawing board then. Damn, a whole good set of lyrics shot to hell.

Are water sprites technically elves?

Let me be clear: no sprites. No dwarves with mandolins. No sylphs. No neiads...

Jack, if you're open to it, I might like to try a little electric playing with this. I'll
see if I can come up with something worth listening to, and send you whatever it
is....

Samhain... &mdash 12/07/05 - 08:28:44 PM
Druids gathered around bonfires on hilltops, shadows dancing to the beat of your music, ushering in the first chills of winter...consoling, unsettling, and eerie because one is uncertain whether this is the end or the beginning of something...anticipatory...very nice composition and instrumentation...and lastly, let me be the first to declare "How good snowdragon's recorder solo is!"

Samhain... &mdash 12/09/05 - 10:18:38 AM
It is worth it to post a song just to get such expressive comments.
The history of Ireland immediately preceeding and following the
introduction of christianity via Patrick is both dark and light, a
meeting of two worlds. Even today, Ireland is an ancient place...
and yet a modern country. Thanks for listening and leaving your
pictorial thoughts.

I'll leave it to snow to comment on your last sentence.... : )

Ay laddie &mdash 12/10/05 - 10:26:22 AM
Enjoyable piece. My old man told me our family went back to the
druids, maybe this is why I threw on my furs and run oft into the dark
cold night after hearing this fine piece.

Well, don't forget to come back in and get warm. Only first
generation Druids should spend all night out in the woods.

Great song Jack! &mdash 12/12/05 - 02:23:45 PM
Would really like to hear some lyrics and vocals by Mystified on this one,
like "Women of Celtic"....That would definately be iTunes material...Its so
nice to hear people as yourself exploring other kinds of genres, beside
just the rock thing....Best of luck in your future projects....digitalnirvana9/

Hmmmm... Mysti? A request here. Actually I have already had that
thought. You never know.
In my non-Macjams life this is not such a departure. But yes, it is a
new gnere/approach for me here. Glad you liked it. And thanks for
your comments.

I am of Scotch-Irish descent and love celtic music. You've created a lovely
moodscape here Jack. Great ambience on the guitar. The recorder solo
works real mood magic.

Thanks for sharing.
