Description:
This song is about the times when real choices have to be made in a relationship, and about the frustration of not being able to reach one another at such times - when you just go over and over the same points without moving on.

Lyrics:
We've been over this a thousand times
yet here we go again
so much time has passed
and nothing changed
here I stand

Can't believe I never realized
how you were all that I could see
I wonder if you'll try to break me now
it's as you please

And as you fall
falling away from me
see me crawl
finding my way
searching for what is mine
for what is me

We've been over this a thousand times
so let's go over it again
It's getting time now that you realize
this may end

I know you can see your way in things
but I can see as far as you
There's no room for rationality - you just choose

And as you fall
falling away from me
see me crawl
finding my way
searching for what is mine
for what is me

We've been over this a thousand times…

Great! &mdash 12/07/05 - 02:50:20 PM
I love songs that are real. About real life, real struggles. So much emotion comes through. The length of time without issies being resolved. The characters in the song seem helpless to find peace. One falling and one crawling.
Excellent lyrics. Excellent singing. Excellent guitar.

Hey Alley
thanks for the comment. Your interpretation of the lyrics made me look at
them in a different way.

Great mix &mdash 12/08/05 - 10:54:40 PM
I love the warmth of this song. The guitars and bass sound so full in this mix. How did you do this? Did you double them on different tracks? Pan them left/right? I'd love to know. This is exactly the sound I'd like to get on a few of my own songs.

Hi,
there's no bass on this song; what you interpret as bass is probably the
thumb part of the fingerpicking pattern. It's just two guitars (the second
one enters in the second verse). Especially when there are no other
instruments, acoustic guitars are a pain to record if you don't have very
good equipment (which I don't). I've been fiddling around a long time
figuring out how I could make it sound acceptable. What I ended up
doing is record each guitar in three ways simultaneously: one directly
out of the guitar (it's semi-acoustic), one by placing a pickup in the
guitar, and one by placing a sm58 mic before it. These three go into a
simple mixer, are panned a little bit, and then recorded on one track.
This makes the sound much warmer and fuller than it would otherwise
be. Nevertheless it's not as good as when you have really good
equipment. I think ideally you'd set up two or three condensor mics (one
on the neck, one on the body, and one farther away) and then route
them through a preamp and put a really good echo on it. But that's really
expensive... Hope this helps in your own recording.
Bye
Denny

very nice sound &mdash 12/09/05 - 06:33:57 PM
I like the fingerpicking style of this song a lot. I also like the how you add
in higher and lower guitar parts in seperately in the song. It adds a lot of
presence and depth to the song. One thing you might want to take under
consideration though is that it seems however your micing your vocals
your getting a backround hissy sort of noise. I guess a few options would
be to put some gate on your vocals or to use a noise reducer plug-in of
some sorts. Other than that it is a pretty overall good song. A job well
done.

Thank you for the comment and the remark about the hiss. I don't hear
it but I appear to suffer from hiss-blindness; I've heard this sort of thing
before. I cannot hear certain frequencies due to a problem with my ears,
so perhaps that's it...

Nice dulcimerish quality.... &mdash 12/13/05 - 08:19:24 PM
...in the melodic guitar part...

You do end up with a very nice guitar recording here, and your voice suits
the tune well...

I'll have to check out your other stuff...

You know how to make me go 'WOW'!!! Very nice work; the lyrics, your
singing, the melody and the mood that you have created here is all so
rich and authentic. I think that I used the word 'powerful' in describing
one of your tunes and yet again, you've managed to recreate that sense
on this tune as well. Deep emotions are evoked when I listen to your
music, this is a good thing - It's what it's supposed to do...

You are good with the kraft of making music, Denny.

Thanks for sharing - Dion

Beautiful... &mdash 12/31/05 - 08:47:59 AM
You've kept the elements very simple and direct but your playing and
voice carry it really well. And the unresolved ending is great.

So nice. Excellent fingering, wonderfully simple and rounded lyrics, with
great internal rhyming and easy sense. Heartfelt and honest. Very nice
track.

The first few seconds of your singing made me think of Gordon Lightfoot
(!), but that quickly passed, as you have your own individual style.

You play and sing very expressively. Powerful lyrics.

Are you still around here at MJ's?
